Dandadan chapter 227 spoilers:
1) And the decline of the series (or at least this current arc) continues. So, Yukinobu Tatsu 100% forgot his own story. Momo Ayase’s powers have been officially retconned as coming from a yokai. This raises…SO MANY questions.
What yokai did she bond with? How come we’ve never seen this yokai in the past 200 chapters? How come Momo lost her memory whereas everyone else just went back to being a regular person? Is the yokai Momo’s own spirit force? If so, how the fuck does that make any sense? Did the villains really just pluck a part of Momo’s soul?
What’s frustrating is that this retcon could’ve worked had it been properly built up to. From the way it’s presented in the story, it’s like Tatsu really just forgot that Momo was the one member whose powers didn’t come from a yokai.
Anyways, fuck it. Momo has and always been a yokai user, I guess. Which also means that moment during the space whale arc where we all thought that Momo’s powers were coming back was actually just Okarun the whole time (the spirit shield). And don’t get me wrong, Okarun is the GOAT, but that was Momo’s moment.
2) Red is Red Riding Hood. Uh…what a twist, I guess. I think I’d care more if the villains weren’t written so terribly. I’ll say this, the writing in Dandadan is really good when it comes to the heroes. It’s subpar to mediocre when it comes to the villains (oh hey, another thing the series has in common to the MCU).
3) Unji Zuma gets another fuck you from Yukinobu Tatsu. Because instead of writing an actual satisfactory conclusion to Daiki Hakono’s subplot, he resolves it off-screen. That’s what good storytelling is, right? You start with an interesting hook, then when everyone wants to see a resolution, you skip over all the leg work and get to the ending. I swear to God, it’s like Tatsu regrets writing Zuma’s subplot in the first place.
4) Granny Seiko’s segment is the only part of this chapter that was any good. I mean, it was just an introduction to the sorcerer society, that’s an easy lay-up for anyone. It looks like there’s something going on with Manjiro, I guess we’ll see in the next chapter.
