it had been so long since she had wandered into the night, aimless in her movements as she allowed her feet to simply trudge forward through the fresh evening air. the sun cresting over the mountaintop, threatening to bathe the sky in an inky black night. and yet, she continues her trek to nowhere before she finds herself stopping at a familiar sight. a crackling fire. a small tent. someone sitting just outside of it. her heart skips, one beat. two, before taking a breath and wandering ever closer, lost in the sound of the crackling flames.
for a moment, she pauses, waiting to see who it is. but instead, a familiar face greets her gaze. hands slipping into her pockets, she steps forwards, walking towards the opposing side of the fire and revealing herself from the cover of the underbrush. she looks down upon the former champion with a smirk – one that is simply amused, but not unkind. ❝ never thought i'd run into you out here. ❞

While the obvious answer would be AZ, the one he really feels like he owes the most is his younger brother. Paxton's definitely had moments where he and his brother just didn't get along, but that's due to his own issues. (Y’know, outside of normal sibling bickering) Plus, it feels like they just… didn’t really get to have a normal sibling relationship, always being compared to each other.
His younger brother was used to covering for Paxton whenever he'd be out late or somewhere their parents didn't want him to be. So he was also the only one Paxton properly told he was leaving. He has his brother’s phone blocked, only because their parents tried calling him from his brother’s phone.
…he has occasionally received calls from unknown numbers while in Kalos, and usually it’s his brother calling from his friends’ phones. Paxton doesn’t answer the calls…

His parents, absolutely.
He's convinced that most, if not all, his issues come from them. Well, some of them come from his relatives’ pressures due to the family lineage of being Pokémon Coordinators, but most of the pressure came from his parents.
He doesn’t care if they decide to change one day and want to be better parents to him, those bridges have been burned to Paxton. And honestly? He doesn’t think they’ll change, so there’s no attempt on his part to contact them.
though a tiny part of him does want to contact them, purely to show off the fact that he’s thriving without them
