Home remedies for treating dandruff
Dandruff can be a result of a dry scalp or a skin condition known as seborrheic dermatitis. It can also be caused by eczema, psoriasis, or, most commonly, an overgrowth of a yeast-like fungus called Malassezia.
About half of adults are affected by dandruff. The individuals often face the dandruff issue around puberty. Males are generally more often affected than females. The incidence of getting dandruff decease after the age of 50. Dandruff cannot be cured but it can be controlled. Dandruff is not harmful, but it could be embarrassing socially and could lower an individual’s confidence.
Anti-dandruff shampoos with zinc pyrithione, which targets fungus and bacteria; ketoconazole, which also fights fungus; coal tar and selenium sulfide, which slow the growth and die-off of skin cells on your scalp; and salicylic acid, which loosens flakes so they can be washed away are available in the market, but there are also home remedies to treat dandruff.
It is proved by scientific study showed that just 5 percent tea tree oil significantly reduces the amount of dandruff in hair.
Application of baking soda to your scalp also helps.
Wet your hair and then rub a handful of baking soda vigorously into your scalp. Baking soda decreases overactive fungi that can cause dandruff. Your hair may become dry first, but after a few weeks, your scalp will start making natural oils, leaving your hair softer and free of flakes.
Apple cider vinegar is the best remedy to treat dandruff in hair. The acidity of apple cider vinegar changes the pH of your scalp, which makes it difficult for yeast to grow. You need to mix a quarter cup apple cider vinegar with a quarter cup of water in a spray bottle and spray on your scalp. Wrap your head in a towel and then wait for 15 minutes to an hour, then wash your hair as usual. Repeat this process twice a week.
Another remedy is massaging 3-5 tablespoons of coconut oil into your scalp and leaving it for about an hour. After that apply Shampoo normally. You can also use a shampoo that already contains coconut oil.
Just massage 2 tablespoons lemon juice into your scalp and wash it with water. Then mix 1 teaspoon lemon juice into 1 cup water and rinse your hair with it. Repeat this process daily until your dandruff wanes. Lemon’s acidity helps balance the pH of your scalp, which prevents dandruff from appearing.
Aloe Vera is also the best remedy to treat dandruff. Massage aloe vera into your scalp before shampooing. The cooling effects of aloe vera will reduce the itching produced by dandruff present in hair.
Garlic has antimicrobial properties which help in stopping the growth of dandruff producing bacteria. For that, you need to crush garlic and rub it into your scalp. Garlic is not only one of the best dandruff remedy, but it also works for your hair, skin, and even immune system.
Olive oil is a traditional remedy for dandruff. Massage about 10 drops of olive oil into your scalp and cover your head with a shower cap and keep it overnight. Wash your hair a usual with regular shampoo in the morning. For the fastest cure, look for a shampoo that contains olive oil.
Get rid of Dandruff-related hair problems with a simple home remedy. Mix 1:1 water with vinegar and apply on scalp. Say bye-bye to dandruff.
