happy National Indigenous Peoples Day here in so-called Canada! here's Wardell and Dandyfae in Métis garb dancing together ^_^ I think they're probably dancing to Maple Sugar, one of my favourite fiddle tunes!
a good rule of thumb when you see a new "slang" word going around that you're unfamiliar with is to look it up, especially in relation to AAVE. (it would be a good idea to also do this with words you already feel that you're familiar with, just to catch anything that may have slipped past your awareness before now.)
there are easily accessible masterlists of AAVE words and phrases and if you go into a search engine and put in "[word] AAVE" you can usually pretty quickly find out if it's appropriated AAVE or not. with that said, even if it's not AAVE, it does not mean it is automatically okay to use! other cultures exist that should not be taken from willy-nilly, and there's many other aspects of language that should be considered. is the word you're seeing historically connected to slavery? is the word you're seeing connected to colonialism? is it connected to substance abuse? is it connected to mental illness? is it connected to abuse? misogyny? homophobia? ableism? etc etc etc. "etymology" is a helpful search term for looking into the history and origins of a word.
language is important, it is powerful, and while language can change, it's good to be mindful of where the words you're using are coming from. if a black person or other minority says "hey don't use this word", then you should not only stop using the word but look into it yourself! find out WHY you should stop using the word, read up on it. there's many resources already out there if you do a little bit of looking for yourself.
I turned 24 in the wee hours of the morning - here's a messy sketch to celebrate making it this far ( ◜‿◝ )♡

thinking about pre-relationship, pre-confession, the lines between friendship and flirting keep blurring because we're both hopelessly gone for each other but neither of us can accept that the other could possibly like us back. i love thinking about how he's probably a bit impulsive and physical, and I am also a touchy person if I feel comfortable and safe with someone, and my touch-starved ass just ends up cuddling up to him any possible moment. do friends do this? who cares! we do, and we're just friends... right?
he's going crazy every time i fall asleep with my head on his shoulder, he has to keep catching and stopping himself from pressing a kiss (that comes far too easily to him for "just friends" but he's not about to unpack all that) to the top of my head when I rest against his chest, maybe when we're high together one day he impulsively pulls me into his lap bc I started shivering and we stay like that for far too long because it's just so comfortable.
Plum.eria is losing her mind trying to fend off the grunts from teasing us, and she's about ready to wring our necks any time either of us goes to her to share our woes to her about how the other could neeeever feel the same way that we do!
[also ofc strictly platonic friends can hug and cuddle and kiss and whatever else. im no gatekeeper LOL but it's just not a Usual™ thing for strictly platonic friends to do, at least in current western culture]
