I had a really sad realization: think about how many things Kubo lost thanks to the actions of the Moon King. Family, home, almost lost his village. Now he has to care for the person responsible for most of the tragedies in his life, and he *can't* retaliate. How could he? He's just a feeble old man now. I dunno, wouldn't be surprised if Kubo still held a grudge against him.

That’s very possible. Maybe sometimes Kubo gets angry with him, but I feel he would internalize it and remember that his grandfather has no memory of what he did and, like you said, is juts a feeble old man.

I love this moment in the film though when his grandfather asks if he’ll help him remember all the stories he has forgotten. Kubo makes this face briefly:
