Saying "Yes"

This past week I had a conversation with my drawing teacher, Dave Cloutier, after class. What started as a critique turned into Dave bestowing the sword of wisdom onto my shoulders. One of the things that truly stuck out to me was when he confessed that a lot about being an artist is discipline. It's about saying "no" to a lot of things. Then he paused, and continued his train of thought. "But you also have to say 'yes' to a lot of things. Social things. You have to be around other people to grow. You just have to know your limits." Granted it's been a few days since the conversation and that quote is not 100% accurate, but the gist is there. As a freshman, there is intense pressure to say "yes" to everything. It's nice to know that my gut instinct is sometimes right.

"People Who Feel Comfortable Sitting Next To Me On The Train"

When you board any type of public transportation, your eyes immediately scan for an empty pair of seats. If each pair already has at least one person, you look for someone that looks "safe" or "familiar" enough that you don't have to worry about being touched in the case that you fall asleep after a long day at work. I take Caltrain to and from work everyday. I want to start a blog in which I document who sits next to and in front of me on the train. This is a social experiment on how my appearance and demeanor affects the perception of those around me.
