So I'm watching "Hero of the Rails" hoping to see what the hype is about and I-

What.

What are they doing.

No seriously WHAT ARE THEY DOING.

ONE CAR.

OF HAY.

PROBABLY CAN BE PUSHED BY A VERY DETERMINED HUMAN.

AND THEY'RE PULLING/PUSHING IT TOGETHER.

HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?

THEY'RE JUST CRUISING. CHEERFULLY CHUFFING. NO SECOND THOUGHTS ABOUT HOW SILLY THEY LOOK.

Well. Until Spencer came and ruined the fun.

Twit.

Anyway.

I need that subplot. What did STH order that both James and Edward went "okay! :3" without further question.

But I'll go ahead and share my theories:

It was an excuse for them to do a job while heading to their next assignment

James had another bootlace incident

They're on an impromptu date! :D WHO SAID THAT-

The hay is covering an ungodly amount of tungsten cubes (why? I dunno)

STH was bored and thought it would be funny (jokes on him, though, they love working together)

Farmer McColl (I assume that's who the hay is for) has a kid who is always excited to see James and/or Edward and it's the kid's birthday today

James just really wanted an excuse to stare at Edward's tender (it backfired)

Danger's TTTE Ramblings #1

"All in Vain" has me in a chokehold and here's why:

So I was overanalyzing details seen in the episode and noticed that the Sodor Bakery pops up twice.

First when James and Edward stop to chat for a moment:

Then again when James tries to show off his paintwork:

I've noticed that when James leaves the Steamworks (Crovan's Gate) he has to travel along the mainline in order to pick up the mayor and STH at Knapford, which is noted when Edward hilariously screeches into Knapford to pick them up (why Knapford????).

Crovan's Gate all the way to Knapford seems to be a straight shot along the mainline, right? So where was the Bakery?

I did some digging and found that illustrations of the Map of Sodor have two possible locations for the Bakery: One near Cabalnoo and one near Elsbridge.

Sources say that Elsbridge is the canon location for the CGI series but, regardless, take note that these locations are off of branch lines.

We'll say that Elsbridge is the location shown in the episode and will use it as our reference point. James would purposely have to go North from the Crosby Crossing (utilizing the Loop Line I think???) to make this interaction possible, which would essentially make his trip back to Knapford even longer and he was technically on a time crunch.

So this begs the question:

Did James purposely detour off the mainline to show Edward his new paintwork?

FYI: I am no expert in the Sodor railways and only basing my findings off of what I see from the Wiki and from the map itself. (I'm also aware that the show tends to be inconsistent with the locations but this particular case seems possible.) Either way the Bakery seems to be out of the way regardless and the thought of James taking a detour is so funny to me.

Danger's TTTE Ramblings #2

TATMR has me constantly thinking about why Edward was never shown in the movie and some of the fan speculations had me CHUCKLING.

My favorite speculation so far is "Edward would wrap things up too quickly if he was in the movie" and honestly? Yeah, he would.

I'd like to think that with Edward being gone, Diesel 10 (I will refer to him as D10 from here) could just get away with anything, which was why he was suddenly a nuisance. And an awful one at that.

Imagine D10 only causes that much trouble when Edward is gone, which is why STH warned the Conductor in the first place. When Edward is back, D10 goes back to being a background character.

I think the movie would be that much funnier if it ended with D10 floating in that barge and somehow managing to float by STH returning from his holiday with Edward (because Edward definitely accompanied the Hatts) and D10 is MORTIFIED that the Old Iron is back.

Also, side note, it's a bit ironic that the magic was suddenly disappearing despite Lady being dormant for YEARS. Edward leaves Sodor ONCE and the island falls apart. Like is Lady the true magical being here? Come on. (/hj)

Danger's TTTE Ramblings #6

The Shed situation in TTTE drives me nuts.

Okay so let's say "A Shed for Edward" did happen (note that Seasons 21-24 do not exist in my eyes because what the heck was THAT) and Edward stays indefinitely at Wellsworth Sheds?

It's smart. It makes sense. She doesn't have to commute as far and can be attentive to her branchline at a moment's notice. Win-win.

*deep breath*

WHY DIDN'T THEY DO THE SAME FOR THOMAS AND PERCY. THEY HAVE SHEDS AT FFARQUHAR (in the books but I'm gonna pretend that they're in the series too). BRING THE HOMIE TOBY TOO. IT MAKES SENSE.

Good lord.

Y'know what? While we're at it, let's move Gordon and James as well.

Since Rebecca also pulls the Express, why not have both her and Gordon pull it going opposite ways? Rebecca starts at Knapford while Gordon starts at Vicarstown. IT CAN WORK.

Plus since Gordon was absolutely BESIDE HIMSELF at the loss of his closest friends, he can at least stay at Vicarstown with Henry and at least get some proper sleep. Additionally, with Henry being a sweetheart, maybe he might help bring out Gordon's softer side.

This is Henry x Gordon propaganda HEYEHAUH

This idea is also heavily inspired by NobleAtomic's fic "Forever & Ever", which you should definitely check out their "Engine Stories" series. It's really good!

So what about James? Well it's obvious that he became incredibly obnoxious after Edward left. Like he's still vain but for whatever reason he's just insufferable.

I genuinely think it's because Edward left. Edward kept him in check and without the Old Iron, James is just not himself.

This is coming from someone who adores James.

Majority of James' workload already happens on or near Edward's branchline. So why not let him stay with Eddie? I genuinely think James works better when Old Iron is around and seems happier. Maybe he can even join the Wellsworth team and finally take on the responsibility of co-running his own branchline. Wouldn't that be bittersweet?

This is also James x Edward propaganda HAHEAHYEA

So what about Philip? Send him to Tidmouth, of course! He already shunts at Knapford! I'd also think that Philip would thrive with the other engines there. No offense to Edward. I love you.

In the end I thoroughly believe that engines thrive when they stick together with their (un)official forever partners. Especially the elder ones. Separating Henry and Edward from Gordon and James was a massive mistake on STH's part. (Yes, ik they made the decision I'm just mad at STH for letting it happen. I'm mad at the writers for letting it happen.)

Shoot. Separating the two original members of the Steam Team already was a monumental mistake. And it definitely showed.

Honestly, having the og 6 spread out into pairs works well and I can see that being of great benefit to the railway as a whole. I can already hc that STH makes them all meet up every Sunday to spill all the tea from the week.

As a side note: I genuinely believe Gordon and James bring out the worst in each other. They are both proud of who they are (which honestly? Slay) but it's almost too much. When they're together, I feel as if it's WORSE. When they're separated, I feel like they're much calmer (pre-BWBA era). Separating them just seems logical to me and could potentially help with their quality of life when they are paired with the respective engine that keeps them grounded. Sorry Gordon x James fans, I've said my peace.

Danger's TTTE Ramblings #3

Confession time: I genuinely thought Edward was a girl.

Let me explain:

I was once an itty bitty Danger and I had a love for living vehicles. Thomas, Bob the Builder, Cars, TRANSFORMERS-

What started that? Why, Thomas did of course! Except, I never watched the actual series growing up. My only source of Thomas media was TATMR. That was my introduction to Thomas and all the characters from that movie imprinted on me.

I was kidding with that last part. I only cared about Thomas.

Bear in mind I was like 3 (I think. I was born nearly 2 months before TATMR released) so my earliest memory (that I can recall) is watching that movie.

What does that have to do with Edward? Well if you saw this post, I rambled about Edward's absence in that movie. Why does that matter? Because I was never exposed to Edward early on as a result. I never got to see how the Old Iron acted, interacted, spoke, nada.

So color me surprised when my parietal lobe developed some more and I realized that the engines all had numbers. "Where's #2???" I thought one day while watching TATMR for the umpteenth time.

Through some series of events that I cannot recall since this all occurred eons ago, I was able to find this picture (or something similar) of Edward. Bear in mind I did not see his name.

What did my adolescent brain say when I saw that image? "Is that a female Thomas?"

Believe me I still laugh at myself.

I don't know when I finally saw an episode with Edward in it (it was a HiT episode, brace yourself) but when I did, I understood. I really did not like him and apparently stepped away from Thomas media after that.

Years later (maybe late 2024) I stumbled upon some Thomas media (on tiktok of all places) and it made Edward look like a saint.

I figured "well maybe he's not actually that bad" and slowly started watching the Model and CGI series.

Edward, my darling, I'm sorry I ever thought negatively of you. You deserve all the love in the world and I fear that still isn't enough.

SEGUE.

Cut to the present day and here's my stance with Edward: I still think he's a girl.

!!LET ME EXPLAIN!!

It's because of Edward's CGI model. You cannot look at that beautiful engine (unrelated but I do think he's gorgeous) and tell me that isn't a woman.

I mean YEESH I was questioning myself if it was intentional until I saw these old articles a few months ago:

Now yes I understand this did not happen and Edward is described as male but... I just don't see it. Edward checks off too many boxes on the list of "motherly attributes" for me to think differently. The poor darling practically RAISED Thomas and singlehandedly wrangled the twin terrors.

Legend.

So now, for any and all future posts on my blog regarding the blue darling, she will be referred to as female. No name change though. Edward suits her splendidly.
