Page 2. ---- FIVE DOLLARS AND COSTS FOR SPEEDING ---- William McKendry Charged With Running Sand and Gravel Motor Truck Over the Streets, Contrary To By-law. ---- Speeding of automobiles must be stopped in Kingston. On Wednesday morning another motorist, E. Stewart, was fined $5 and costs by Magistrate Farrell for running at an excessive rate of speed. His violation of the act occured last Saturday night on Montreal street, crossing Princess street. When the intersection of the streets was crowded. A. E. Day of Rogers and Nickle, represented the defendant, and pleaded guilty on his behalf.
A couple of months ago the Board of Works, seeking to preserve the permanent roadways, forbade the heavy sand and gravel motor trucks the use of the streets on which they were laid. William McKendry was charged with an infraction of this by-law. Mr. Day also appeared for him, and asked for a remand which the magistrate allowed, until Friday.

Coynbee Arrested. ---- RUSHED TO HOSPITAL; DIES ON ADMISSION ---- Machine Owned by Reliance Auto Company - Carried Four Passengers. ---- Standing in the street waiting to signal an approaching street car upon which he desired to travel down town, J. F. Gray, of 1863 Fifth avenue west, was struck down and killed by a passing automobile at the corner of Fourth avenue and Cypress street last night a little before 7 o'clock.
The automobile responsible for the tragedy is owned by the Reliance Automobile company, and was driven by Richard Coynbee. It is alleged that the machine was being driven at a fast rate of speed upon the wrong side of the street. Coynbee is being held under arrest until after the inquest.
Dr. Johnson, 2395 Fourth avenue was at once called to Gray's assistance by one of the passengers of the car, but all that the physician could do was to order the removal of the man to the General hospital. Upon the arrival of the police ambulance this was done.
The man died shortly after being admitted to the emergency ward. He was badly crushed about the region of the heart. An inquest will be held. Motorman McAuley, who was in charge of the street car for which Gray was waiting, was a witness of the accident. Other witnesses were Conductor Robert Wallace, G. R. Jones, 1186 Granville street, and the passengers of the automobile; manager Cody, of the Reliance Auto company; Mr. Ernest A. Cagnon, Granville Mansions, and Mrs. A. E. Sharpe and her daughter, Miss C. Sharpe, Elysium hotel.

Page 2. ---- Mesgda's License Is Suspended for Three Years ---- Found guilty of dangerous driving, leading to the death of Reginald L. Boddington, Oct, 4 last, Joseph J. Mesgda was sentenced today by Mr. Justice Hope to one year in the reformatory and his license was suspended for three years.
Mesgda, with Mary Ann Yates, Boddington and two others were in a car owned by Miss Yates - which crashed into the curb near the Humber bridge and overturned.
Assistant Crown Attorney W. O. Gibson handed to the court a list of Mesgda's previous convictions and Justice Hope commented: "Since you were 17, six or seven out of 10 years have been spent in custody, and in this case you appear to have shown the same disregard for the rights of others in previous as cases you did for the property of others."
"LEFT ACCIDENT SCENE FINED $10 AND COSTS," Toronto Star. March 26, 1943. Page 2. ---- "I'm convinced you had no intention of stopping. If you do that kind of thing you won't be driving at all." Magistrate Keith told William Fitch. Accused was fined $10 and costs or five days for failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
Frank Roberts testified accused, the Kennedy Rd.. struck the rear bumper of his car and scraped the whole of one side. "I chased his, car a half a mile before stopping him," said Roberts.
"It was such a little scrape. Why, I have got scrapes like that galore. I stopped as soon as I could," said accused.
Vernon Guest, convicted of having liquor in an illegal place, was fined $10 and costs or 30 days. Joseph Barker, owner of a car in which Guest was found asleep, was fined $10 and costs or 10 days for being drunk in a public place.

Page 8. ---- Douglas Turner Fined $50 - Permit Suspended for One Year ---- Oshawa, April 22 - Douglas Turner, Dundas Street., Whitby, was fined $50 and costs yesterday after he pleaded guilty to a dangerous driving charge. The court ordered suspension of accused's driving permit for one year.
The charge resulted from an accident, April 3, when the car driven by accused was in collision with a car driven by J. Holtby, Reach township.
Turner admitted that he was on the wrong side of the road. Police testified that the Turner car had skidded 60 feet before colliding with the Holtby car. which was parked on the left side of the road.
