In the latest Run ep behind, when Jungkook told Jimin "I'm counting on you", he used the word 'dangshin'. Is it something to freak out over then? Cause from what I read around, its use is quite complicated. And iirc even Namjoon has used 'dangshin' when addressing Jimin too, not sure when but it was pointed out before.
Oh Dangshin (당신) why are you so complicated?
Let me start off by saying I am always suspicious when JK uses it with JM. But that is because I am a Jikookie.
Namjoon has used it with JM and JM used it with Tae ... in both cases older speaking to young. But I need to find those times and see the context because I am wondering if they were picking on them or arguing. Pretty sure they were.
Even most times JK has used it with JM has been when he is-playfully- arguing or picking on him like he was over the picture and his elbow or in summer package when he told him not to lower his tone. Everyone laughed because it is a playful use of the very rude word. Which is usually how married couples use it. They use it when arguing with one another- playfully or not. That is also when it is used in Dramas is when they are arguing or about to.
But still that was the younger saying that to an elder and just no. Not ever. Which is why I am always suspicious when JK uses it. Primarily because of what it indicates about the dynamic of Jikook personal relationship. Jikook has to be really, really close personally for this to be okay.
Now I am going to speculate here but I feel like they (BTS) have taken to using the word to normalize it and make it seem like it wasn’t that big a deal when JK used it. But I still remember when JHope heard JK say it in the run episode the first time and his little head and eyes were like -what. It was a shock to him and clearly not a normalized use of the word yet amongst themselves. Complete speculation on my part but I don’t remember them using the word before that point. I could be wrong though.
So to answer your question... in this instance -most recent Run episode BEhind the Scene- he said it to JM with a rather endearing message. “OK JM ssi, I believe in you or I trust you.” Is the most common Englis translation. So I find that highly suspect. But I haven’t watched the episode yet so was he really just challenging him - like OK you better do well or else- or was he really encouraging him. I personally don’t know since I haven’t seen the episode yet.
