me explaining to my mom why I don't think my siblings should watch the new Animal Farm adaptation: it completely misses the meaning of the original story, Animal Farm is not about a bunch of animals running a farm, it's a critique of power and how power corrupts. the original book has been pushed as an anti-communist story, when it's actually anti-authoritarian, but the USA has made it seem like the original story was just about communism to fearmonger, and so civilians reading the story won't realize the power we as a group hold against those in power. also the fact that it's being adapted by angel studios-a mormon media company-definently raises some red flags. surely this company funded by a cult that's been pushing for the combination of church and state will have an accurate interpretation of this story.
vs talking to my dad about it: so they changed the story, and now it's about a bunch of animals working together to run a farm
my dad: did they read the book, or just the title?
