And here the result of the Hornerstown Formation #paleostream! This formation was deposited from the late Maastrichtian to the early Paleocene and has direct evidence of the K-Pg impact preserved. Perfect to have a moody piece like this, something that I wanted to do for a while

As such we decided against yet another Cretaceous piece and instead opted to show you the Danian part of the formation, not long after the extinction event. Thousands of years after the impact the storms at the coast of New Jersey reveal the subfossil remains of Mesozoic giants.

For me the most interesting parts of this fauna were the many sharks and rays as well the fragmentary but diverse bird community. On top of that we have an interesting invertebrate fauna with potential evidence a few ammonites making it past the K-Pg boundary.

As this piece is set in the shallows i wasn't really able to add in a few of the larger survivors, but in this case the vibe was more important to me than completeness. Feel free to use this size chart by Discord member Montana to create your own compositions ;)

Elven Words for the Ocean, Tides, and Rain

I’ll have the second part of this collection, words for rivers, lakes and other water sources out later and another with more words for the shore and other marine related things!

Water in all its forms is one of the most commonly occurring motifs in Tolkien. The song that brought about creation is most tangible in the water and all known elven languages have many, many water related words including many wonderfully specific ones!

Eär or Eären is the Quenya word for the ocean or sea. Gaear is the Sindarin word and Gaiar is the Telerin one. The root of all of these words are gayar which means sea but also dread, awe or being astounded. This is consistent with many canonical descriptions of the power of Ulmo.

Haloisi (Quenya) means the sea in storm ⛈️ and derives from the root hala meaning leap. Quië meant the opposite, a calm or quiet sea.

Duinen and dannen are the later Sindarin words for hide tide and lowtide respectively. Luimë and Nanwë are the respective Quenya words. Duinen and luimë both derive from duy meaning flood and dannen and nanwë derive from ndanmē meaning retreat or ebb

Luiwë is also the Telerin word for high tide. Dammë means low tide.

Ross is the Sindarin word for rain and rost is the adjective form meaning rainy. They derive from the root ros meaning spindrift that is also the root of rossë, the Quenya word for light rain or continuous spray.

Ulo is the Quenya word or heavy rain. It comes from the root ul, meaning to pour.

Gwing is the more commonly used Sindarin word for foam or spindrift and faloth means a large, foamy wave. Falma was the Quenya word for a created or foamy wave. Both derive from the root phal meaning foam or splash

Meord is a word meaning fine rain in Ossiriandic, the language of the green elves of Ossiriand. It is one of only nineteen known words in this language. It derives the word mizdi meaning fine rain or dew

Finally!! I can now present my new Chaotic Oc! (Yes, you heard that right! X3 )

So when I was getting into Chaotic, I wanted to make a Creature Oc from Perim, I well, love the Danian designs in the show and in the card art, so I gave myself a challenge to design one. 

I did have an idea for his design as he was inspired on the honeypot ant, so it was so much fun making him into a lava lamp lol XD

Then came the legs and well, it was a struggle, my bestie @gorefolk helped me with designing them (Thank you so much bestie, you have saved me again with designing hell lol XD )

He was so much fun making him, from his colors to his personality, plus it was a great challenge for me to design a different creature than what I'm use to. I'm really proud with the final results!

So with that, I'm happy to introduce you to my Danian Oc, Altor. 

-Altor is a Danian that all his life has been living in Mount Pillar, a Danian that isn't sure about what he purpose is for the hive and for the Queen. 

-He's an odd Danian that his own kind would not talk to or try to get to know due to him being known for bouncing off from mentor to mentor. 

-Altor has had three mentors but he didn't stay long with them, he is currently with a Danian mentor named Glapaal. It's a struggle for Altor...

-While Glapaal is a Danian Mandiblor Muge, he's not good with training another Danian student, so he would just have Altor do tasks that keep him away from really training him in Mugic. He's not mean to Altor but just bad at training...

-Altor has taking an interest in Mugic, he wanted to learn so much on the making of them, the music in Mugic is what he enjoys the most. He catches himself humming the tune from the Mugic. 

-He also enjoys the culinary arts as well, it's like potion making but with tasty food, something he uses to make medicine. It helps with anyone to take medicine and not have a bad taste in their mouth. 

-Though Altor hides his love for cooking due to Danians not really interested in that as they don't believe in good food can be use for medicine as well. Plus, he's a little embarrassed to show anyone...

-Altor unfortunately has to live with the fact he doesn't have many friends in his tribe as most are mean or too busy with their work, while he is alone and lost without a purpose, it's the worst feeling to have when in a hive...

-But one day, Altor was curious about the outside of his home, he has heard some rumors about it from some Danian scouts. He wanted to see it but he was afraid to break the rules that the Queen gave to her people, never leave the Hive alone... But the interest ate him, and he rebelled as he went outside on his own...

-He was in awe of the over world he was missing, so much life and so much color. He enjoyed the cool breeze of the wind and the plants all around him. It was paradise for him, but it didn't last... he got lost in a place called the Forest of Life where he would meet someone there... someone from the Overworld tribe and things change drastically for this little Danian and for everyone in Perim...

Also a few fun facts about him:

-He's inspired of the honeypot ant, I didn't see any Danians with a design based on the species in the card game or in the show, honestly, I love the idea and thought to try it out with him. 

- Yes, he can shoot out a honey-like substance from the palm of his hands, it's sticky and can harden like amber. He doesn't use it much but there are times when accidents happen. It's useful for him but he wants to try to practice on it more. 

-Altor is a name that my bestie gave to me when I was thinking of names for him and I wanted a name that started with an A.

-He is a shy Danian but he can be sassy sometimes but he's quiet about it... 

-He's probably the only Danian that thinks than fights, he doesn't like to fight and believes he's too weak... at least that's what he thinks...

-An outcast in the Hive... but he isn't alone... ;3

This more of theory that surfaces from the depths of my mind:

What if bipedal danians were the result of a past danian queen who assimilated a bipedal creature into the hive for the purpose of producing bipedal danians.

Sarah huffs and averts her eyes for a moment.

"I don't know. I mean, it's crossed my mind. But I'm pretty sure a human getting assimilated would be bad news for them if they wanted to keep playing Chaotic."

She thinks for a moment.

"Judging from Raznus, I might keep my hair? But the skin could be any sort of color. I don't think there's much standardization with Parasites. So I'd hope for something nice looking. Another set of arms, clawed fingers...

I'll stick to becoming a Danian in the Drome for now, thanks."

Something I've realized after re-watching the Chaotic cartoon? They REALLY didn't do a good enough job of making the M'arillians effective bad guys. Partially because we don't actually SEE most of the terrible stuff they do and partially because, in all honesty, what they do isn't that much more evil than what any other tribe does.

They conquer other tribes and want to take over all of Perim? So does Chaor. Both his bio and flavor text make it clear he wants to dethrone Maxxor and take over the Overworld and rule all of Perim. They brainwash creatures? The Danians do that with their parasites. If anything, the parasites are worse because they manipulate their mind AND their bodies. They invade other tribes? ALL the tribes are constantly invading each other or attacking each other or trying to conquer locations. Screw M'arillians flooding the lava pond, the Underworlders once tried to burn down the forest of life. The Mipedians tried kidnapping the Danian Queen. The Danians tried turning Maxxor into a Danian. The only reason the M'arillians really come off as more evil than any other tribe is that they're just more effective at fighting other taking them over.

And again, we don't SEE all the bad stuff they do for the most part. We just keep hearing the things they did. "They flooded the Lava Pond, they contaminated the Mount Pillar Reservoir, they flooded Rao'pa Sahkk." But we don't SEE them do any of that. The only location we see in M'arillian control is the Riverlands. And the episode we see it in is the first time its mentioned they did that in the entire show.

The show does a lot of telling with the M'arillians but not a lot of showing WHY they're so bad or why they're such a threat the other tribes need to unite to fight them. The card game did it way better.
