i think some of the notifications mentioned the location they’re going to is called shi san long (十三龍), which translates to thirteen dragons!! it’s also in one of the signs in the preview!

most of what i linked is in mandarin but google translate should work on them! a lot of it is also just stuff we learnt growing up so other than like my family and my primary school textbooks I don’t really have sources hahaha

if you’re referring to the dragons: a lot of chairs/thrones since the qing dynasty have had thirteen dragons carved into them since the dragon throne (the one in the forbidden city in beijing, 龍椅) was created. iirc that number was often associated w the emperor because the emperor rules over the 日月星辰 (sun, moon, stars, system = 4) + is the 九五至尊 (nine whole lines in yijing) = 13??

if you’re referring to why thirteen is a lucky number in chinese: there are 13 sects in buddhism in china and has come to represent 功德圆满 (reaching perfection, concluding successfully etc.) it’s also bc one cycle in chinese culture has 12 units (think the zodiac animals, reincarnations etc), so 13 is considered breaking the cycle / starting afresh. 13 is also considered the emperor’s number (see above) and is considered a good number in chinese numerology!

it’s also interesting bc kowloon (九龍, translated to nine dragons) in hong kong is probably where they’re basing this training ground off of!! they just changed the 9 to a 13 and used like . pinyin instead of canto lmao

side note but 14 contains 4 (四, sì), which is inauspicious bc it sounds like death (死, sǐ)!

I think I latched on so strongly to Jamie and Dani because it’s the first time I’ve seen a wlw couple being domestic on tv? we saw them waking up together and having an apartment and owning a shop and doing cute couples things and I don’t know that I’ve ever encountered that in popular media before
