Matthew Murdock:
✧ Anything with some texture would be appreciated. So he can feel the material, the rough texture, the ridges of the project. Despite how he struggles with his dual identity; semi-retired Devil of Hell’s Kitchen and attorney, you think a piece with horns would best describe him.
✧ A plush toy or keychain of daredevil, or simply the helmet part of the suit. Of course attaching two cute little horns at the top. Dark maroon colour, the horns extra sharp so that he can run the pads of his fingers over them when you give it to him, feeling all the ridges, the extra bumps and parts of the crochet piece that protrudes outwards, made specifically so that he can feel it. A lot of crochet projects/gifts requires sight to appreciate it fully, but that is not the case with Matthew. For him it’s a gift he can experience without needing to see it, rather using his senses to be able to value it the way it should.
✧ Not just what you gave him, but how you gave it to him, what he could hear, smell and sense when it happened. How your body seemed lighter when digging through your bag, smelling the saltiness of the thin sheen of sweat on your forehead, then the soft breaths that seem intentionally regulated, the feeling of your fingertips grazing his palm as you plop the stuffed Daredevil in his hands. He tilts his head to the side, senses sharpening to grasp the situation at hand, gauging your reactions, the soft texture of the material that seems to be synthetic, the yarn weaved together to create a piece of him.
✧ The fact that you kind of cute-ify Daredevil is like seeing the goodness in him, removing that shame and religious guilt he feels, the failures of the devil inside him. Rather you portray him as something adorable, like he should be valued.
✧ Doesn’t matter if it’s an obvious clue to who he really is, he would love it regardless. It’s sweet, thoughtful since your hands made it for him, and also very reflective of his identity, which he is currently struggling with.
✧ This would be gifted during the time where you began to reconnect after distancing yourself from him, that is why it would mean so much to him as it demonstrates how you still care about him and considered him to the point where you dedicated your time, effort and simply your intention of giving him a personal gift.
✧ And if you accidentally run out of the same colour yarn and find one similar enough with different dye lots, it’s perfect for him since he appreciates the gift with the feel of his hands and not his eyes. You would definitely make something for him from scrap yarn, best way to use up your scrap supply rather than it accumulating in your apartment or eventually throwing it out.
Karen Page:
✧ Karen is one of the strongest, most enduring people you have come across, but even she has some whimsy inside her, someone who craves to be loved, doted upon. Giving and receiving acts of service really is her love language. So when she was gifted flowers from Frank when he gave her an impromptu visit, the traditional man he is, she swooned internally.
✧ So she would really melt inside and out if she was given some crochet flowers. Memorialising the act of the gift in flowers that cannot wilt.
✧ Making a bunch, tying them together, paired with a cute vase that you painted would be the cherry on top. Some lavender stems to fill in the gaps of the sunflowers that occupy most of the bunch, her favourite flowers in the mix, daisies, tulips, all kinds.
✧ She does cry a little, it’s such a beautiful thing to crochet for the person you love, also because of what the flower represents and the reason why you would gift this. She keeps them on her dining table, front and center. So that she can see it, you could see it, anyone who would enter would see it, the neighbour could take a peek at it if they were lucky.
✧ She is just proud of the act itself, it may be just a gift, but to her it’s the highest form of love anybody could give her. She may even admit that it tops Frank’s flowers, and you happily gloat about it when you see him next.
✧ When you give her these flowers really depends, it could be early on when you were still working night shifts, or the time in-between where all four of you guys were working at Nelson, Murdock & Page. It could also work after the whole debacle with Fisk and Dex, after her and Matt had found you being too close for comfort, practically roommates with Dex. As a resolution, or for forgiveness you leave them at her doorstep as a final act of love.
Franklin ‘Foggy’ Nelson:
✧ Foggy would be absolutely ecstatic. With his new job at Hogarth, Chao & Benowitz, he had started moving up in the world, more refined tastes and opting to buy the more expensive brand when grocery shopping.
✧ Still he was Foggy, and Foggy did appreciate a good scarf for the winter. So you make him a neat, clean stitched scarf. Maybe dual colours, or switching between two colours for a cohesive look that would not look odd if he wore it over his suit and overcoat.
✧ Possibly navy colours which seem the most professional and matches the best with his suit, or a deep maroon with black so that it doesn’t stand out too much. Even a mossy green, that too is pretty dark yet suitable for his day job.
✧ He gives you a warm hug, squeezing you a little to express his gratitude, promising to wear it all the time, might even try in the summer time if he can, that made you laugh, trusting that he was serious about wearing it everywhere.
✧ You also think that since he had moved into a lovely apartment with Marcy, a joint gift for them might be an oven mitt. Something they both can use, practical and reusable.
✧ It would be the colour of their choice, maybe some cute patter on it, and it would definitely be cotton since it absorbs the heat the best. It wouldn’t burn like acrylic would. You would take it a further step by adding a thick lining on the inside of the mitt, just in case there are any gaps that are created over time due to use, so that they wouldn’t burn their hands and fingers if it came to it.
✧ This would be given to them when they move in together or right after Foggy gets his proper, fully paid job as an Attorney for such a well known firm. Trust that he would wear the shit out of that scarf, because the next time you see it, it’s littered in fuzzy patches, pilling all around, the surface clumping in certain areas, and most notably the dark red blood that has drenched the tail end of the scarf, blood that still won’t come off no matter how much it had been soaked.
Benjamin ‘Dex’ Poindexter:
✧ He is the person who is granted the most access to your projects. He loves watching as your hands work so delicately with the yarn, barely catching when the yarn goes over the hook, and when his brain catches up, you’re already on the next stitch.
✧ Mesmerised by the repetitiveness of the stitches that pass along the chains. It’s calming to watch, kinda like following along on a gameplay, or similar to how he used to throw a baseball at the same spot, over and over and over again, till the movement was cemented into his brain.
✧ It had a certain rhythm to it, some of his quirks mirror that repetitive movement, short, concise and easily replicated. How he rolls the coin over his knuckles, doing it for so long that the coin eventually warms up. He mostly does it when he’s deep in thought, when he has something on his mind, almost like a tell of his that told you he wasn’t all there in that moment. Habit from years ago that stuck with him until now.
✧ The apartment is littered with small projects, matching coasters that he always used. Keychains that hung from your bags, cotton dishtowels that you had practiced new stitches on.
✧ You made him a hat. He didn’t usually opt for a hat unless it was to hide his face or when he went on a run. You had heard him mumbling half-hearted complaints about his cold ears a couple times, it stuck with you. What better way to cure his cold ear problem with a hat, additionally keeping his whole head warm.
✧ Though he would have preferred it if you kept rubbing his ears aggressively to warm them up. Or cupping them when you were in a nicer mood, and not having a case of cute aggression when you did. He still preferred the physical remedy for his cold ears, but if you made it for him, it was as good as your hands on him.
✧ A physical creation that was a part of you. Made by your hands, where your time went into it, a labour of love is what he saw. He’d wear it even if it was a ridiculous colour, any texture, if it was fluffy or stiff on his head. He would still wear it if it was from you.
✧ When you gift it to him, it’s the morning where you both have gotten ready to head out for the day. Just before leaving, you hide your hands behind your back, pursing your lips to hide your crooked smile threatening to blow your cover.
✧ He’s suspicious of course, by now knowing you well enough to recognise the signs of hesitance and that skittish behaviour of yours that you can never seem to hide if you paid close attention. So he waits for you, standing by the door, adjusting his jacket to give you more time to approach him.
✧ You pull at his jacket to grab his attention, he looks up, brows raised. Acting as if he didn’t know something was up. You pull the item from behind your back, he looks down at it. Mouth forming an oh, his eyes follows the hat in your hands as you reach up on your tiptoes. He feels the strange material of the hat slipping onto his head. Twisting it around till it looks right, tucking a few strands of his hair underneath. Then smoothing a hand over to make sure it stays, more like a pat as if to say, there, all done.
✧ His heart is going steady, faster than normal. And he has to swallow thickly, unable to process what had just happened to him.
You had made him something with your bare hands, for him.
Who wouldn’t swoon?
Heather Glenn:
✧ Heather was not expecting a present from you this far into your relationship. It was a semi-professional one, partly due to her being your therapist as well your friend through her partner. Frankly, you both were getting along better than Matt had expected, he thought rejection was on the way for him after kinda ambushing you with the idea of talking to someone about your issues.
✧ It worked out better than he had hoped, and now it led to you and Heather meeting up alone, without him, slightly ironic given the fact he had introduced you both. Despite all that, you decide to give her something for being such a great help and support throughout the last few weeks.
✧ She be happy with the stress balls you crocheted for her. Stuffed with polyester stuffing to fluff it up, so that when it’s squeezed, it bounces back into its original shape. Three or four altogether, there’s one on her nightstand, one somewhere on Matt’s couch, in her office and one in her bag that she keeps at all times.
✧ The colours vary, and some of them were cute little animals. Adding little eyes to the blue whale, a turtle, a gingerbread man but circular shaped, and a plain one with a mixture of colours.
✧ This was given to her shortly after you were introduced. A well thought out gift despite the short amount of time you had known each other. Warm cheeks, shyly slipped into her hands. She gasps and wow’s at the sight of the plushie stress balls and gathers you into her arms, swaying from side to side. Looking at you so sweetly it almost makes you tear up, it was so maternal and proud the way she handled you.
✧ You also made her a tray to store all her jewelry or keys depending on where she decided to keep it. An easy, and practical storage for when she comes back home, tossing her keys into a tray rather than the hardwood table by the entrance of her apartment. The keys don’t make a noise, instead the yarn cushions the sound, no more clattering sound that makes her wince.
✧ Funnily, she had requested you make a stress ball with Muse’s mask. You gaped at her, not quite believing what she was asking. You stutter out a response, completely unsure how to respond to that. When she sees you do that, she laughs it off easily, but you can tell she was serious underneath it all.
You never talked about that again.
Buck Cashman:
✧ You and Buck met under peculiar circumstances, delivering an invitation to your house personally, then insisted on taking you to the hospital to get your stitches out. Bonding moments led to him becoming fond of the unlikely friend he had made, though you would call him an annoying acquaintance, he ends up orbiting your precious ex-therapist. Now you had to include him in everything you did with Heather, an imposing figure that was way too smug for your liking.
✧ However, you do unconsciously begin to regard him, somewhat care for him due to the fact he is in the middle of something so dangerous, in the middle of the whole Mayor’s debacle, and you pity his involvement with the Fisk’s knowing how badly it could end for him.
✧ You also know he is a busy man, a man who thrives in action, hunting people, sorting out problems for his employer with his silencer screwed on, and at times he has to work at his desk, collecting information, doing background checks. Therefore his elbows took the brunt of the pressure, sitting at his desk for countless hours with the table digging into the bone, nothing to cushion it and it was a mild inconvenience.
✧ That meant he deserved a little something for his elbows. So you make him an elbow rest for him, to lay across his desk between the space where the table begins and the laptop lies. It’s long enough to reach both elbows, and easy to store away when he packs his things for the night, tucking it somewhere safe so that no one nicks it and remains untouched by anyone but him.
✧ The material is acrylic, super squishy like blanket yarn or chenille yarn, the type that is unbelievably soft on the fingertips and is perfect for his sore elbows. You chose a lovely light blue colour with little designs sown around, possibly flowers, stars or random dots that were supposed to be something else. A squiggly border that pulls the whole look together, making it stand out even more.
✧ You give it to him in a gift bag, holding it out to him, and as expected he is very thankful. His brows crinkle as he looks into the bag. The rest of the time he is with you, he gets a little quite, eyes a little distant not from a lack of engagement but the overwhelming feeling inside him as he remember that there are people who think of him, who love him, that he is worth being in their life despite who he is and what he does.
✧ Eyes all warm, oozing with a gentle look that you catch, not really expecting him to get all mushy. You feel out of place witnessing this, not sure if you were allowed to view him when he seems rather vulnerable and taken by the simple act of being given a gift.
✧ He kinda almost brags to Heather about it, she definitely catches on, recognising your crochet piece and laughs at his reaction. It was sweet how he can’t seem to stop himself admiring it every time he pops the plush elbow mat out when he sits at his desk, absentmindedly stroking the feel of the yarn that had been weaved together just for him.
Daniel Blake:
✧ You and Daniel were acquaintances, you knew him as a friend of a friend. You think of giving him something funny and practical. Despite not knowing him too well, the way Buck spoke about him was rather endearing, so why not give him something that would make laugh a little given how stressful his life has become.
✧ It was a small something that was unnecessary but you still made it, giving to Buck so that he could give it to Daniel. It was a small purse with a press stud, the purse itself was a rat, gray coloured with two beady eyes and a pink nose. Arms and legs attached to the corners of the mini-purse.
✧ Enough to slot in a few coins and bills, can be tucked in his trousers, admired when he requires a quick boost of serotonin, brushing his fingers over the little rat.
“This is sick man. Wow.”
Then proceeds to chuckle as he shoves in a few bills, always having it on hand.
Frank Castle:
✧ Frank is quite the sentimental type when he wants to be. When he is ever given a gift, he does cry, soft guy at heart, mushy on the inside when he is met with kindness and consideration. Something he occasionally receives from the people in his life.
✧ You were there for his trial when you worked at Nelson & Murdock, working as a sort of intern, going through statements, evidence with Karen and trying tirelessly to prove the innocence of the man who was Frank Castle. Then you and Karen were put in witness protection, but managed to slip out late at night to see him at a Diner.
✧ He mostly knows about you from the few run-ins and working together for a short while, and mostly from Karen who can’t ever shut up about you. He sees the flowers on the dining table, rivalling his own bouquet; it makes him slightly jealous when he spots the flower pot. Not because he’s jealous of you giving his Karen a flower, but due to the fact that he wishes at times that he was given something like that too.
✧ So you make him a few things actually. One of them is a range of small flowers that you sew to the inside of the jacket he always wears. Some of them are your favourites, his own preference and also Karen’s. Your reasoning was that he has a piece of everyone he loves near his heart, wherever he went it was there with him.
✧ The other crochet piece you give him is a pair of gloves, made to his measurements, with a good quality of sheep or alpaca wool to keep his hands and fingers warm when he is long stakeouts or out during the winter days and nights doing whatever he needs to do.
✧ He tries his hardest to keep them clean and away from staining them, because he can’t soil a gift made by you with the blood of his enemies. So he asks for some care instructions because he cares about this kind of stuff, soaking them in lukewarm water and some mild dish soap when they need a good clean.
✧ It's very useful to him because he dislikes getting cold all the time despite becoming accustomed to handling such frigid temperatures over the years. He may even commission a scarf, maybe from the same yarn and colour so that it matches, though Frank wouldn’t mind it if it was a mixture of funky colours, he’s hardly ever embarrassed by stuff like this, and a gift made by you and worn by him was definitely not something he would hide away.
✧ He’s a tough guy with little regard to other people’s opinions, he does what he does, likes what he likes, and lacks any care of others’ judgement, therefore whatever you make him, he will wear till it rips and pills.
