he’s always precise. targetted care in his movements like he’s planning what he’ll do before he does it. you find him smiling faintly when you blink at him, stammering at how he’d hit a target so far away.
even if the target was just a garbage can.
at the park, he grabs a stray kite just before it gets out of his reach. the string loosens from a little boys fingers as you walk by. though dex’s hand slips out of his pocket before the boy even lets go and dex’s thick fingers clasp around the string.
you just barely saw him do it, but you did nonetheless.
dex catches cups that you accidentally knock over and doesn’t let them hit the ground. you’ve just drunk a glass of water and mindlessly set it on the corner of the table. dex is already eyeing you from across the room. he crosses before you turn to him and your elbow hits the cup. your eyes shut in anticipation of glass shattering. but instead, he reaches out and catches it behind your back and sets it right back down.
at josie’s, dex doesn’t just hit the red target on the dartboard easily but he’ll also pin things from across the room. when you’re sipping your terrible drink and giggling at your stupidly attractive boyfriend, he’s still throwing darts with his arm around your waist. not missing a single shot. but a hooded figure grabs a purse from a old woman and dashes out from her grip and dex sees it before you do. he throws his dart from across the damn bar and it hits the man, right in his hand holding the purse.
the man screeches in pain, his hand pinned to the splintering wood that was probably older than you. the purse falls from his hand immediately and dex picks it up to return to the older woman. she thanks him graciously and you’re eyeing him with lustful intent as he makes his way back over to you.
“what?” he blinks and freezes at your gaze. “i’m one of the good guys now.”
your eyes trail down his figure and then up again, intensely slow. he blushes hard and tries to hide his growing smile. though you grip at his shirt and urge him closer, rasping his name like a plea and a demand he’d never deny.
“i wanna go home now.”
dex nods quickly and takes your purse in his other hand, ushering you out of the bar as fast as possible.
the apartment door shuts behind the two of you only after you’d already been pushed towards the couch. dex bounces a fidget to you’d bought him off the counter and it hits the front door, pushing it shut hard. his hands on your waist move meticulously as they begin shedding your layers. barely even touching the button of your jeans as he opens and pulls them down. his rough hands trailing stupidly soft up your spine, dragging the fabric and sending shivers up deliciously.
his hips seem to have the same motivation of his mind. precise, perverse, and insatiable.
before you can part your lips to let any sounds out, he swallows them down like something rare. he fills it with little sounds that destroy you instead. his lips like sweet nectar to your sensitive ears that amplify every thought with visions on him.
because dex fucks like he fights—skilled and unfair.
every push of his hips, pressing against yours. every thrust more devastating than the last, stealing your breath repeatedly. over and over. he learns and he adjusts without you saying anything. he listens to your body and to the sounds you make to guide him aimlessly. he smiles when you lose yourself in the feelings. watching you twist just for him to hold you there and keep you from squirming. dimples evident as he laughs lowly and holds your hands above your head.
“right there sweetheart? you like when i touch you there?” cooing by your ear and pulling away to watch. because dex loves to watch.
he’s so precise in his movements that he purposefully touches the depths of you. just enough before it’s too much for you. mouthing down your jaw while he kisses your cervix. letting your moans bless his ears while you clench around him. dex kisses you through it but he doesn’t stop. he keeps moving and teasing. coaxes you through your high and tumbling into a new one while he resumes his ministrations.
he’ll beg you to let him come inside you but you both know you’ll let him anyways.
“let me do it,” he pants against your skin, “let me give you everything.”
the most sultry seduction, wetting his lips as he speaks. the honey tongued words drowning you in bliss as he holds your hips with roughened care. the sound of his skin on yours and the hard muscle of his abs under your fingers when you trail your palms down his torso.
how can you deny him? how can you deny yourself?
you’re nodding before you can think about consequences. you’re trying to wrap your legs around his waist when he pushes them up higher and higher. letting your ankles hang off his shoulders with your knees pressed to your chest.
dex fucks you faster, running his free palm down your bodies to tease you further. rubbing tight circles with his thumb while you fall into a pleasurable pain that you recognized as overstimulation. thrusts sloppy as he loses his own train of thought.
his mind filled with nothing but you, you, you.
his worst obsession. his biggest weakness.
you gasp as you feel him finally let go, painting you white between his shattering, relentless thrusts. pushing back through his broken groans as he pulses against your walls. nothing ever goes to waste with him. he’s precise with where he wants to fill you until you’re dazed. blissed out when he finally stills.
he stays buried inside, hand lifting to grip your cheeks. squeezing just enough to make your lips pout and part to spit directly on your waiting tongue. not letting a drop escape. pulling out with a wet sound you’d burned to memory, he makes quick work to collect the two of you and push it back inside. sealing it with a kiss that stole your breath effortlessly.
Licking on dex scar during missionary… that alone will drive him crazy. he’d get sloppy afterwards mumbling and cursing bcs you could do anything to taunt him; he has the patience for it all but licking the scar??? wheww that’d do it….
WHEWWW
and at first he would be thrusting into you slowly and lovingly, his cock sinking into your tummy and drawing little gasps from you. your quivering legs just closing in on his waist every time he draws back and pushes his length into your cunt. and with how tender dex is being it makes you so needy that you just want to kiss him :(( making grabby hands at him until he smiles and lowers his head down for you, letting you wrap your arms around his neck. “needy girl..” he’ll mumble, knowing he totally loves it when you get like this.
you’re just pecking at his lips and his neck, whines of dex.. and feels s’good.., sweetly leaving your lips after every smooch. you’ve pulled him so close that your cheeks are pressed together and you could hear his breaths in your ear, hard panting and strained groans every so often. and you really weren’t thinking when you did it, your lips were already kissing at his cheekbones when you decided to lick a long stripe against his scar. tongue gliding over the damaged skin with a pant as you hold him close to you, tasting the sweat of darkened scar. and dex just stills in his movements, his cock still snug in between your legs as he takes in how fucking hot that was.
you hear dex groan out a rough, “fuck..”, his hands moving from holding behind your head to gripping at your hips, sloppily pounding into your cunt with need. and he hits right at your g-spot extracting a sob from your throat, instinctively hiding into dexs shoulder. “hey, stop that. keep doing what you were doing sweetheart.. for me yeah?” dex urges, taking one of his hands from your hips and pulling your head from his neck. with tears running down your face you start to lap at dexs face again, and you give him little kitten licks at his scar with a whimper.
his mouth curls into a grin and he bites his lip, eyes shut in pleasure as his hips rock into you harshly. “atta girl just like that..” you hear, feeling your core tighten up with an intense orgasm creeping up on you.
you can barely keep up steady licks on dexs cheek, only managing a slick stripe on his skin every moment from how much he’s rocking you back and forth on the bed. and his thrusts stutter when you clench around his length, tightly squeezing around him while you cum, his cock having to pry itself from your sopping folds. dex is mumbling curses in your ear and you know he’s about to cum himself, cos he gets all sloppy and hazy, cock pulsing with the need to paint your walls. dex plunges his load in your hole with lowly moan — you’re hiding in his shoulder again, and his face is all messy with spit because of you!
target youre dex's love, and he'll treat you as such, because there is no one else.

your eyes were slightly fluttering, the tiredness from the day rushing over you. your head dropped gently on dex.. he smelt of sea salt and oak, and a tad of musk. you closed your eyes just momentarily, soaking in the hum of the television and dex’s chilling body temperature.
dex looked down at his body, gazing at your figure. he brought his trembling hand up to your face, stroking a stray hair from your forehead. dex then rested his hand on your cheek, thumb moving in small circles. you were so precious. what did he do to deserve you?
your eyes blinked awake, feeling a large, calloused hand on your cheek. dex stopped his movements for a moment, moving to retract his hand. before he could, though, you set your hand over his. the small, manicured one compared to his rough one.
you removed your hand now, trailing it up dex’s muscular arm to his broad shoulder. “you're so beautiful,” you mumbled out between your sweet lips.
dex hadn’t replied with words, but instead lifted you to sit in his lap. god, he was so big. he was capable of so much, and you weren’t afraid a single bit. your body shifted around, finally settling on his strong thighs. his large arms came around you, hands settling at your lower back. dex peered back up at you with the deepest fucking eyes, looking at you like you were the sweetest girl ever.
“my sweet girl,” he hummed, his grip tightening. it was firm, but not enough to bruise. never enough to bruise. dex would never hurt his girl, and he would never allow her to be hurt.
you pawed at his shirt, begging to get the soft cotton off. “dexy, m’begging you, please.”
“anything for you,” he rasped out, pulling the fitted navy shirt over him. his sculpted body was covered in scars, raised and red. you didn’t care, though. dex earned them. proof he was superhuman.
now, clawing off your own tee, dex pulled you somehow closer. you were wearing the bra he liked. navy, fabric smooth like butter, and cupped your chest perfectly. it was his favorite because it wasn’t like the others that dug into your skin and left marks that you would silently rub before you stepped into the shower.
you snaked your arms around dex, his eyes locked onto you like a target. his eyes were now rimmed with hazel and filled with a deep void of desire. you peered down at his pink lips, laying a warm kiss. it was short, but sweet. dex loved how soft and pliant you were. you would melt in his hands, like strawberry ice cream on a balmy day.
dex wasn’t much different. anytime you would cuddle, ass plush against him, he too would melt. anything you would do had him chasing the high over and over again.
he now chased your lips, pressing back against your smooth ones. they tasted like your banana cream lip gloss and whipped cream. he licked them once before he went in again, tasting all of you. you giggled at his sweet action, a hand snaking to his sandy blonde tufts. you gripped it gently, bringing it towards you. he hummed in satisfaction, the slightest sting of pain thrilling him. “fuck.”
you ran a hand down his chest, down to his abdomen. your pointer finger drew hearts over his abs as you looked back up at him. “can i, baby?” you asked, eyelashes batting. you shifted your hips right over his growing bulge, a wet patch already forming in his grey sweatpants.
he nodded, “yes, f-fuck, love.” your gaze never broke, because that was the real intimate part. dex never took you fully from behind, unless there was a mirror in front of you two, or if he held you against him. he loved looking at your fucked-out face as you took all of him.
your finger trailed down, right above his length. you let it linger there, licking your lips. his hands engulfed your ass as you pulled at the band, letting it snap against his waist. his hips twitched at the action, restraining from bucking up into you.
you pulled him out and cupped your warm hand around him. you could hear dex’s breath hitch, the airflow becoming heavier. after a few jerks, you swiped over the tip, a bead of his sweetness sticking to your thumb. dex whined out, mouth agape. you drew forward, taking advantage of the opening. you kissed the side of his mouth, your spit drowning his shaved skin. he tilted his head to the side to take control of your mouth now, his tongue immediately invading it.
you pulled your underwear to the side, already wet, waiting for him. every time you and dex made love, he knew at this point it was his turn to take the reins. dex dragged his hands up and down your thighs, feeling the soft skin. you hovered over him, not wanting to sink down until he gave the green light, even though you knew you always had it. when it came to dex, anything was plausible.
“my girl needs me now, hm? need me to fuck her good?” he asked with a smooth tone, cupping the curve of your waist.
you nodded with teary eyes, the ache in your cunt worsening by the second. a tear slipped, and dex wiped it away with his thumb, licking the wet streak. the salty trickle now replaced by his damped love that you would go to war for.
dex brought you down slowly, easing into you. no matter how many times you had taken him, it was still far too much. maybe he needed to mold you more, he thought.
you whined pathetically, hands planted right on dex’s chest. he threw his head back in ecstasy, never getting tired of your gummy walls. “move please, please, dex, i need you,” you begged.
he brought you back up before slamming down. a moan etched from you, the noise coming straight from the back of your throat. dex winced with pleasure, getting his fix. he brought his lips to your artery, leaving open-mouthed kisses on the pressure point.
once he saw you catch your breath, he continued his movements, pulling your body back up and down with no effort whatsoever. he’s throbbing inside, tip kissing that sweet spongey spot inside you. you're babbling now, whispering sweet nothings against him. dex glanced at your tummy and the slight bulge in it. he was obsessed with the fact that he could see himself leaving and entering you.
dex closes his eyes, replaying the image over and over. his lips trailed down to your chest, licking and nipping gently at the smooth skin. dex was so proud whenever you took him, falling apart so easily. the fact that you let him every single time, treating him like he hung the moon.
“i-i’m gonna cum, dexy..” you whimpered against his lips, closing your eyes. the tightness in your tummy was ready to snap. “i know, babygirl, let it out,” he moaned back, his jaw unlocked.
you tightened around him, listening to dex’s instructions. you would never disobey him. you were so loyal, like a dog.
“not much longer, baby,” you cried out, eyes tearing up once more. “now, c’mon, sweet girl,” he grunted.
you threw your head back, letting go. you saw stars transform into white, chest heaving.
dex wasn’t far behind, bucking up and his pace increasing. though, he was getting messy. he pushed your hair back before bringing your face back to his. dex smothered you in spit-soaked lips as you were still coming down from your high.
“yeah, that’s it, baby. take fucking all of it,” he groaned. and you did. like his good fucking girl.
you could feel dex’s movements faltering as he gripped harder. “fuck, all mine. where, sweetheart?”
his hand trailed up to your throat, wrapping around it like he could cut off your airway at any given moment. “inside, dex,” a mewl comes from you. “inside me, please!”
dex sobbed at your words, thrusting fully into you. you both came instantaneously. he was still fucking up into you, his cum filling you to the brim. the creamy ring around him made you drool buckets. you whined at dex, laying a lasting sloppy kiss on him. “i love you, dex,” you mumbled.
“i love you too, doll, so fucking much. you’ll never know,” he whispered out, palm back to cradling the back of your head on his chest.

a/n: hi i haven't written smut since sept-oct so pls dont judge, i also wrote this within like 2 hours so sorry if its rushed </3 this was also inspired by @poindextergirl bc their work is actually goated it made me pause my writing for "operation 481" LOLLL
summary: Your approval means more to Benjamin Poindexter than anything Fisk could ever offer him. He’ll get on his knees and crawl back to you without hesitation if that’s what it takes to make you look at him the same way again, even if it means throwing away every ounce of pride.
note: he’s pretty pathetic here, i think we all want to see that… reblogs and comments are very much appreciated!
You have spent years working right beside Wilson Fisk. He trusts you without hesitation because you earned that position through loyalty. Managing the organization for him requires being the bridge between Fisk and the people working beneath him. People who need access to him have to go through you first. You hear the desperation in their voices whenever they beg for an audience. Sometimes being that bridge gives you satisfaction since everyone knows he is the man in charge. Being someone he completely trusts gives you access to handle sensitive information and coordinate operations before those requests ever reach his ears. You make sure the plans reach the right people without mistakes, because if something falls apart, you are the first person expected to fix it. You earned your job through results rather than ruling by fear. Fear breeds cowards, but competence keeps the empire standing while Fisk values competence above other traits.
You have proven time after time that you can solve problems before they get messy. You rarely wait to be told about what needs doing because you already know his expectations. You understand his demands just by watching the way his jaw tightens. Anticipating his needs requires you to notice details other people overlook, and noticing those details means you catch subordinates when they stumble over basic instructions. Watching them fail means you routinely tie up loose ends before they become liabilities for the business. Leaving a messy trail guarantees an early grave, but you will never ever let that happen. You will burn the evidence away until there is no proof to trace back to him, yet some evidence can’t be burned or buried, so you make sure it never speaks again. Handling that dirty work yourself feels like something you must do because others inside the syndicate only rely on clumsy brute force or intimidation.
You view their loud displays of anger as a weakness rather than a threat. True power means knowing when a conversation has reached its end without needing to raise your voice. You handle the jobs yourself without hesitation, as having blood on your hands is something you refuse to deny. You refuse to lie about the monster you became to survive, since guilt stopped bothering you a long time ago. It no longer drives your decisions, so you never feel the need to remind people who you are. You see their shoulders stiffen the second you enter a room, and the sudden drop in their voices tells you what you need to know about their fear because power doesn’t need to be flashy. You prefer to keep your influence out of sight until the moment it matters, as bragging about authority only makes you a bigger target. You don’t have to shove it in their faces to get respect when the way they scramble to follow your instructions serves as proof enough.
Any hesitation disappears the second you look their way. People understand that ignoring your orders is the same as ignoring Fisk himself. They know the punishment for crossing you will be the same as crossing him. That fear makes them shut their mouths when they leave, and their silence ensures very few people outside know your real name. Keeping your identity a secret prevents people from understanding your influence over the city. They spend years trying to figure out the criminal empire. Reading their flawed reports proves they rarely realize how many pieces happened through your hand as they chase the wrong suspects while you orchestrate the operations from the dark. You prefer keeping out of the spotlight while other men take the attention. Letting them take the credit saves you from being targeted. You have no interest in fame or building a new empire of your own. Your work is for the stability of the organization.
The desire for power did not appeal to you as much as the desire for control alongside this life because it gives you a purpose. You firmly believe loyalty is proven through actions rather than empty promises. You have spent years proving where your loyalty belongs. That proven loyalty is exactly why overseeing the personnel takes up a large part of your time, and Fisk trusts your judgment enough to leave the daily management in your hands. He focuses on expanding his empire while you ensure every worker serves their purpose. Everyone beneath him has a specific job to do, and you make sure they never step out of line. You watch over the employees to ensure the operation runs smoothly, and you always review their backgrounds to understand their capabilities. You understand that loyalty can’t be demanded of everyone in exactly the same way, since some are motivated by fear, while others care about money or ambition.
One of your skills is remembering details about the people working for the business, and you treat them all as replaceable tools to maintain order. The syndicate survives because you figure out what drives someone before managing them, and that responsibility extends to Benjamin Poindexter. You know who he is from his history long before ever meeting him, and you memorize his reputation without forgetting the role he fills within the business. His records mention his accuracy just as often as they mention his psychiatric history, but neither detail changes your opinion of him. Knowing those details is part of your job because you refuse to oversee someone without knowing how they think. The reports reveal a pattern you use to keep the organization running efficiently since Benjamin performs best when someone gives him structure alongside direction. He seeks approval from authority figures and becomes unstable whenever that approval disappears.
You ignore his personal issues as long as he does exactly what he’s told. You adjust your approach by giving clear instructions and maintaining consistent expectations to ensure he becomes a reliable asset. Praise is never excessive while criticism is never emotional because you know inconsistency creates unnecessary problems. You never view your approach as manipulation since it’s simply effective management. He begins responding to your routine faster than you expect as he handles the messy jobs other people fail to finish without causing problems for the business. He starts completing assignments exactly as instructed while paying attention to the details you point out. He always waits for your opinion before considering a job finished, and you see it as proof your methods are working perfectly. You have never concerned yourself with building personal relationships inside the business, so you don’t see him as a friend.
You see no reason to treat him any differently than anyone else since you care only about his usefulness and view him as just a weapon for Fisk to use. Keeping a professional distance has always made your job easier, even when small acknowledgments gradually become enough to shape his behavior. A simple nod after a successful assignment keeps him in line, and you allow him to stand at your side during meetings. None of those gestures mean anything unusual to you because you offer them for a purpose. Benjamin begins attaching far more meaning to them than you ever intended. The people around you notice the difference before you do because Benjamin rarely questions your decisions. He follows your instructions without hesitation, and some coworkers assume Fisk placed him under the only person capable of controlling him. Others joke about Benjamin being your favorite operative, but you pay little attention to the comments.
You believe you found the most effective way to manage him without realizing you’re becoming the center of his need for approval. The desperate need for validation makes his failure today unacceptable because the plan was supposed to end with Karen Page dead. You had already removed every possible complication you could predict before handing the final part to the one person you believed could not fail. Karen had survived far too many situations she shouldn’t have survived, and you were tired of adjusting your plans because of her luck. This assignment wasn’t just another routine job for him to complete. This was Benjamin’s chance to fix his mistake with Foggy Nelson, where he almost got caught and exposed the entire operation. Completing this task was his way to prove you were right to keep defending him to Fisk. Karen Page being alive and breathing completely ruins that effort.
You hear the news of his failure before he can make an effort to tell you, so you make sure you are already waiting inside the safe house when he finally arrives. You hear the lock click before the door swings open to reveal him standing in the hallway. You don’t bother greeting him or asking if he took any damage during the fight. He steps inside the room, knowing immediately from your expression that you aren’t interested in hearing his excuses. Coming close doesn’t matter when the target walks away, and it will take a long time to get that chance to put them on the ground again. The job wasn’t finished, so whatever he has to say means absolutely nothing to you. You stare straight at him while he closes the door behind him and looks uncomfortable under your glare. You let him take a few short steps inside the room before you confront him about the outcome. You don’t raise your voice at him because you have never needed to yell to get your point across.
The anger is already obvious in the way you look at him. You cross your arms over your chest while waiting for him to speak first. He refuses to meet your eyes, so you decide to break the silence yourself. “Tell me exactly how Karen Page managed to walk away from you,” you demand in a calm tone while watching his reaction. Benjamin stops walking right in the middle of the room as he finally looks up at you. He opens his mouth to speak but quickly closes it again when he sees the disappointment on your face. You know he hates failing you more than he hates failing the actual mission itself. “She had help,” Benjamin replies while staring at a spot on the wall right next to your head. That excuse does nothing to improve your mood since you explicitly told him to anticipate interference. “I don’t care who helped her because you were supposed to eliminate anyone who got in your way,” you state plainly while watching his jaw clench.
You take a step closer to him so he is forced to actually look at you. “He was waiting for me,” Benjamin says while shifting his weight nervously under your gaze. He knows he messed up, and your lack of sympathy makes his failure even worse. “Daredevil showed up before I could take the shot,” he adds to explain the fight on the rooftop. You observe his expression as he talks about the interference. The more he talks, the less interested you become in the details because every sentence sounds like another excuse instead of accountability. You remember giving him the specific instruction to expect interference before the operation even began. You chose him over everyone else for this job because he was supposed to adapt to any obstacle. He was supposed to overcome the problem and finish the job anyway. All you hear is him trying to convince you that the outcome was unavoidable.
“She escaped while he kept me pinned down,” Benjamin continues to defend his failure. He speaks fast, as if an explanation will make you forgive him. A short laugh escapes you before you shake your head in disbelief. You throw his own words back in his face to make him hear how pathetic it sounds coming from someone with his reputation. “A blind man,” you say while looking into his eyes. “You lost your target because of a blind man,” you repeat to mock his excuse. His jaw clenches tight before he looks away from you. The thought that Benjamin Poindexter came back defeated because of a blind vigilante makes you feel insulted. “He isn’t just some regular guy,” Benjamin argues to defend his loss. You refuse to accept that excuse when you put your own standing on the line for him. You close the distance between you two until you are standing right in front of him so he has no room to step back.
Benjamin is the person you defended when no one else in the organization wanted to take the risk. You stood up for him after the Foggy Nelson disaster. You cleaned up the consequences to protect his place within the syndicate. You made yourself responsible for him to convince everyone his mistake wasn’t who he was. You gave him this chance to fix things, but he repays that effort by coming back empty-handed. “I defended you,” you remind him while holding his gaze. Benjamin’s throat bobs as he stares at you. “I know you did,” he mutters while keeping his hands tight at his sides. “I stood in that room to tell them they were wrong about you,” you say as you watch his expression fall. You risked your own position for him, and he makes your judgment look foolish in front of Fisk. You refuse to let him look away from you. “Do you have any idea what you just made me look like?” you ask while letting the anger show in your voice.
He opens his mouth to answer, but no sound comes out. He clenches his teeth together as he tries to figure out a better response. He realizes this is much worse than just missing a target. You stare at him while he struggles to find an excuse that matters, but he finds nothing because you both know he ruined the one chance you gave him. “I know I messed up, but I can still fix this,” he says to salvage whatever trust you still have in him. He keeps his hands at his sides as he tries to find a way to fix the situation. He takes a breath before speaking again, “Just give me another chance to go back there-” You uncross your arms to lift a hand, then you slap him across the face with all your strength before he can finish another excuse. You don’t strike him out of pure anger. You only do it to make him stop talking. The room becomes dead silent, and you watch his face turn to the side from the impact.
He stands there looking surprised because slapping him in the face was the last thing he expected you to do. You don’t give him a single second to recover when you grab his jaw with your hand. Your nails dig into his cheeks hard enough that he has no choice but to face you. You want him to see how angry you are right now since he has never seen this side of you before. You never raise your voice at him, which makes the situation feel much worse for him. “Look right at me when I’m talking to you,” you demand while pressing your thumb against his cheekbone. He doesn’t look away from you, and his pulse races under your palm. “You don’t get another chance until I decide you deserve one,” you state while your fingers dig deeper into his jaw. He needs to understand his place before he tries asking that you let his mistake slip. “That bitch should’ve been dead,” you tell him as you force his head up a little higher. You are tired of changing every plan just because Karen Page survives every attack.
She is a problem that should’ve been eliminated months ago, and this assignment was supposed to put a stop to her interference, yet Benjamin let her walk out of his sight. Your nails bite harder into his cheek to make him listen to every word. “I am so fucking tired of cleaning up after Karen Page,” you say without yelling. You wonder how a reporter manages to survive a highly trained killer. “Every time I think she’s finally gone, someone gives me another reason to deal with her,” you add as you glare at him. You observe his chest rise and fall rapidly as if he’s trying to calm himself. “Do you have any idea how much time I’ve wasted because of that bitch?” you ask while pulling his face a little closer. He just had to put a bullet in her to end the problem, but he failed you. You have to fix his mistake yourself today. You keep your hand tight around his jaw to bring up why you trusted him in the first place.
“Bullseye,” you say to him so he remembers his own title. Everyone knows him as the man who never misses. You expected him to live up to that reputation tonight instead of returning empty-handed. “Maybe I gave you too much credit,” you state as you watch his posture stiffen. Benjamin doesn’t pull away from your hand even though your nails hurt him. He says nothing to defend himself and just waits for you to finish talking. He knows interrupting you again will only make things worse, so he accepts the pain. “I know I failed,” Benjamin says while his breathing picks up. It sickens you to see a trained professional acting like a desperate child. You want him to realize apologies mean nothing when a job is left unfinished. “Send me back right now,” he begs for a chance to fix the mess he created. He looks at you like a stray dog begging for a scrap of approval. You refuse to reward his incompetence with an immediate yes.
“I won’t come back until she’s dead,” he insists in a rushed voice to prove he can still be useful. He assumes finishing the assignment late will erase the disrespect he brought to your name tonight. “I won’t make the same mistake twice,” he promises as he leans into your touch. You wonder if he hears how pathetic he sounds. Empty words do nothing to rebuild the reputation you risked for his sake. “Just give me the order and I-” he starts to say before you cut him off. You squeeze his jaw much harder until his words stop right in the middle of the sentence. He winces from the pain, but he refuses to step back. You have zero interest in hearing another useless guarantee. “You still don’t get it,” you say while shaking your head at him. The problem goes far beyond a single surviving reporter. “This stopped being about Karen the second you walked back in here,” you tell him as you force his face closer.
He needs to understand failing a mission is bad, but making you look stupid is unforgivable. “You need to realize the true price of your mistake,” you state while watching him struggle to figure out the real issue. “Your incompetence makes me look like a fucking idiot for trusting you,” you tell him so he understands exactly what he ruined. You refuse to let anyone else think you made a mistake by keeping him around. “I put my own reputation on the line when I swore you were worth the risk,” you state while keeping your hand firm on his face. You convinced everyone he deserved another chance after his last disaster. You put your own judgment behind him so he could keep his place in the organization. “You knew I stood up for you, yet you still repay me with this pathetic failure,” you say as you observe his expression change. The harsh insults never seemed to bother him, but hearing how deeply he humiliated you finally gets a reaction.
He always focused on proving himself to Fisk without realizing you were the only shield keeping him alive inside the syndicate. “God, I was fucking stupid to believe you were better,” you spit out while glaring at him. Benjamin finally understands what you are really saying. “Please don’t regret choosing me,” he begs as his chest rises faster. The panic in his voice shows exactly how terrified he is of losing your protection. “I never meant to make you look like a fool in front of them,” he says to salvage your trust in him. His eyes search your face for any sign of forgiveness to keep you from turning your back on him. He stares at you like a dog waiting for its owner to fix the mess. “I’ll make it right. You’ll never have to defend me again,” he promises to convince you he can fix this. His hand lifts for a second, as if he wants to reach for your wrist. He stops himself before his fingers can even brush against you.
He knows better than to make another move without your permission. All he can do is stand there and let you hold his head in place. You refuse to let go of his jaw even when he looks at you with that desperate expression. “I have no reason to keep protecting you after tonight,” you state while pushing your thumb harder into his cheekbone. You have already spent way too much time cleaning up his mistakes. “Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t replace you right now,” you demand in a cold tone. You want him to realize how close he is to losing the only person who covers for him. “Tell me why I shouldn’t walk out that door and let you face the consequences alone,” you add to make the threat perfectly clear. He knows he will fall apart the second you stop telling him what to do. “Because right now I am struggling to remember why I ever gave a shit about you,” you tell him while watching him panic.
The thought of you walking away terrifies him more than the anger in your voice. He needs your orders to keep himself grounded, so losing you means losing his purpose. “You’re the only one who understands how to use me,” Benjamin answers while maintaining eye contact. You can hear the pure desperation behind his words. He sounds completely willing to do whatever it takes to stay under your control. “I’ll do exactly what you want without asking questions,” he swears to secure his spot at your side. He wants to prove his obedience right here so you don’t replace him with someone else. He doesn’t care about Fisk or the organization anymore because his only concern is your approval. “Tell me how to fix this, and I’ll do it,” he pleads while standing under your hand. He waits for your command because he refuses to let you abandon him over one failed assignment. “You think you’re the only guy we have?” you ask in a cold tone while digging your fingers into his face.
You wonder if he actually believes his title makes him immune to consequences. “I can find a replacement to clean up your mess by tomorrow,” you tell him so he understands how fast you can throw him away. Your hand drops from his jaw the second he lunges forward to grab both of your hips. He catches you before you can step backward because he hates hearing how disposable he is to you. His hands hurt your waist, but you don’t break eye contact as he refuses to let you walk away from him tonight. He acts desperate to keep you close by dropping his head forward to hide his face right against your neck. “N-no. You can’t replace me,” Benjamin argues as his fingers dig deeper into the fabric of your shirt. You feel his breath against your neck when he speaks into your shoulder. “Nobody else can do what I do,” he insists in a panicked voice while shaking his head against you.
His desperation makes you want to laugh right in his face. You expect a trained killer to have at least a shred of dignity. “There is only one Bullseye,” he adds as he tries to convince you he is the only weapon Fisk will ever need. Hearing him use his own nickname sounds more like a plea than a threat. “I won’t fuck it up next time,” he promises while holding you tighter against him. He needs you to believe he can fix this failure. “I’ll do whatever you want,” he begs in a rushed breath. You wonder how much pride he is willing to lose to earn your forgiveness. Listening to him beg proves exactly who holds the power between you two. “You need me,” he says to convince you not to abandon him. You realize how much you owe him when he acts this pathetic for your approval. You shove his chest backward with enough force to make him stumble away from you. He loses his balance for a second before you grab a handful of his hair.
You yank his head backward so he is forced to stare straight into your face. “Ah- fuck,” he grunts, but he lets you drag him without fighting back. You want him to realize he has no room to negotiate with you right now. “Whatever I want?” you ask as your fingers tighten in his hair to keep his head pulled back. He gulps nervously before nodding as much as your hand allows. You take his desperate promise to heart to see how far he is willing to go. “Then get on your fucking knees,” you command without hesitation. He drops to the floor without waiting because he fears making you angry. You let go of his hair so you can grab his jaw again once he is down there. You angle his face upward so he has to look up at you from his knees. “Look at me,” you order while digging your thumb into his cheek. He keeps his eyes glued to yours as his life depends on it. “Prove you can be useful,” you demand while looking down at him.
Benjamin leans forward to rub his cheek harder into your hand. He turns his face to kiss your palm before he opens his mouth to take your thumb inside. He sucks on your finger to show you exactly how desperate he is for your attention. He keeps both of his hands at his sides while using only his mouth to please you. You watch him act like a pathetic animal begging for scraps. “Tell me how,” he mumbles against your fingers. You pull your hand away from his mouth so you can take a slow step backward across the floor. “Show me you know how to follow,” you order while looking down at him. He refuses to let any empty space exist between you, so he follows you by crawling forward on his knees. You observe him drag his knees across the floor without ever trying to stand up. His eyes never leave your face as he follows you across the room and keeps his hands to himself. You don’t stop taking those steps until the back of your legs brushes against the edge of the living room sofa.
You sit down on the cushions, and you spread your knees apart to give him access. He keeps crawling until he places himself right between your legs. He wraps both of his arms around your thighs so you can’t shove him away from you again. You look down at him while he kneels on the floor directly beneath you as he holds your legs tight enough to make sure you can’t push him back. He buries his face directly into your stomach to hide his expression from you. He holds your thighs tight while his hands slide upward to grab the fabric of your waistband. He takes a deep breath against you before he finally lifts his head back up. He looks up at you with his chin resting against your belly as he waits for your permission. He stares at you with pure desperation in his eyes. “Let me make it up to you,” he whispers against your shirt. He refuses to let go of your clothes until you tell him what to do next.
You run your fingers through his hair very slowly to keep your voice gentle because hearing you speak to him that way destroys his pride. He pulls his face away from your stomach just enough to put a little distance between you two. His hands move down to the buckle of your belt before he undoes it. “I gave you this job because I wanted you to be the one to do it for me,” you tell him as you watch his shoulders drop under your touch. “It makes me so sad that I trusted you with this,” you add while running your thumb across his cheek. He flinches at the disappointment in your tone, but he leaves his hands on your waist. You offer him a sympathetic smile as you look down at his face. He doesn’t like feeling inadequate, and he has a desperate need to prove he is good for something. He tilts his head back to look up at you right as his fingers shake against the fabric of your pants. He pops the button open before pulling the zipper all the way down.
“You tried so hard, but you just couldn’t manage it, could you?” you ask while letting him undress you. “I really wanted to be proud of you tonight, Dex,” you murmur as you stroke his hair again. He looks completely devastated by your words, but he refuses to get up off the floor. You sigh quietly like you are exhausted from defending him. He grabs the waistband of your pants right as you let out that breath. He leans back to give himself room to work the clothing down your legs. He pushes the fabric down your hips and thighs while you monitor him from above. “I tell everyone that you are my best guy,” you state as you run your nails over his scalp. He pauses to take a shaky breath. “Now they are going to think I was stupid for believing in you,” you say while watching his hands shake. He clutches your pants tighter as he stares up at your face. He reaches down to pull the pants over your ankles before he throws them onto the floor.
He leans forward again to hide his face right against your thigh. He presses a desperate kiss just above your knee to find some comfort. “I’m sorry... please don’t sound so disappointed,” he begs into your leg. “Please don’t replace me,” he pleads while shaking his head against you. He kisses your leg again to show his devotion. “I’ll be good. I promise I’ll be good,” he tells you as he holds your thighs. “I’ll do anything you want,” he promises in a rushed breath. He lifts his head from your leg to look right up at your face. His hands drag up your legs until his fingers hook underneath the elastic band of your underwear. He stares up at you while waiting for an answer. “Let me take care of you... please,” he whispers as he keeps eye contact. He sounds so desperate to prove his worth right here on the floor. “I can still be useful. Tell me I can take these off,” he insists while tugging on the waistband. You don’t say a word back to him, so he realizes he has to ask better.
He clenches the elastic band of your underwear as he stares up at your face. He refuses to pull the fabric down until you give him explicit permission to uncover you completely. “I just want to make you feel better,” he says from between your legs. He waits for your order since he refuses to make another mistake today. “Can I? Please?” he asks while looking up at you like a dog. You swat his hands away from your waistband before his fingers can slide your panties down. You grab his wrists, and you shove his arms straight down to his sides. “Did I ever give you permission to do that?” you ask while he stares up at you. He realizes he crossed a line, so he forces both hands behind his back to prove he knows how to follow orders. You check his posture to make sure he does what he is told. “You haven’t earned the right to have me tonight,” you state as you look down at his pathetic expression. A heavy swallow escapes him, and he refuses to move his arms from behind his back.
You grab a handful of his hair to yank his head forward until his face presses against your crotch. His breath hitches from the closeness, and he leaves his hands right where you told him to put them. He takes a deep breath against the fabric of your panties while he waits for your next command. “You have to work a lot harder if you want these off,” you tell him while tightening your hand in his hair. He shakes against your thighs because having you this close drives him crazy. “Don’t move your fucking hands from behind your back,” you warn him to ensure he doesn’t try to touch you again. He rubs his nose right against your covered cunt to show you he understands. You look down at him while he waits against you for some kind of release. “You failed your assignment today, so you have to taste me through the fabric,” you declare to remind him about his mistake. “Lick right through the material,” you order while forcing his head down onto your crotch.
He lets out a needy whine, and he parts his lips to obey your command right away. “You only get to taste whatever soaks through because you were useless today,” you say as you watch his mouth open wider. “Make it wet enough, and I might forgive you,” you add to give him a reason to try harder. He presses his tongue against the fabric to follow your order without a second of hesitation. He licks right over the seam of your panties while he tries to balance himself without using his hands. You watch the material turn dark with his saliva as he tries to please you. He wants the real thing so much, and he accepts being denied since he knows he deserves the punishment. You feel the wet heat of his mouth seeping through the panties to soak your cunt. He drags his tongue up and down the seam time after time to drench the entire area for you. He refuses to bring his arms forward even when he wobbles on his knees.
He pauses to breathe before looking up at you from between your legs. “Mnn... is this good?” he asks while looking at your face. He dives right back down to lick the soaked material before you can even answer him. You feel his tongue working the wet fabric into your slit so he can taste you. “I’ll make it so wet for you,” he mumbles against your crotch before letting out a grunt. He stops licking to look up at you with desperate eyes. “Please let me taste the rest,” he begs while staring up at you. You hold your hand tight in his hair to remind him who is in charge right now. He leans back so he can look into your face while leaving his mouth very close to you. “Tell me I’m doing a good job,” he pleads to get some validation for his efforts. You refuse to give him any praise until the fabric is ruined with his spit. He takes your silence as a cue to work harder, so he pushes his face right back into your cunt. You let out a sigh as his tongue laps at the soaked material.
“Mmf- please tell me I’m good,” he whines into your crotch while rubbing his nose against you. The urge to use his fingers makes his arms twitch, but he forces his hands behind his back anyway. The punishment drives him crazy because he wants to touch your cunt. His mouth has to do all the work while he kneels on the floor between your legs. You see him shove his face into your center to get a better angle. His hot breath fans the damp fabric of your panties before he opens his mouth. “Fuck- just like that,” you groan while staring down at his head. “Ahhn- keep going,” you command as you tighten your hand in his hair. A wet sound fills the room when his tongue drags hard against the center seam to find the exact spot you need. The soaked fabric turns see-through under his mouth as he laps right over your clit. “Shit- right there,” you curse while your hips jerk upward. You feel the rough texture of the panties rub against your folds.
He parts his lips to close his mouth right over your clit through the material and sucks it. “Mnn- suck it harder,” you demand while tilting your hips forward. “God... fuck yes,” you sigh as his tongue flicks against you. The annoyance of not having the whole thing makes him too impatient to wait any longer after being denied for so long. Tasting you through a layer of fabric frustrates him because he craves the real thing. You feel him turn his head just enough to bite down on your panties. He hooks his teeth into the fabric and tries to yank your panties to the side so he can taste you without it. He drags the material far enough out of the way before releasing it from his teeth. His mouth dives forward the second his lips are free. A hot breath escapes him when he swipes his tongue against your slick folds. He laps you up with a sloppy sound while his nose nudges into your thigh. Tasting your cunt makes him groan right against your slit, and he devours you without using his hands because you told him to leave them behind his back.
Your juices coat his chin while he eats you out, and you feel his tongue working deep into your hole as he tries to make up for lost time. He wants to prove how useful he can be right here on the floor. “Did I say you could move those?” you ask while looking down at his head. You yank his hair backward to stop him from licking your cunt any further. A whine escapes him, but he lets you drag his head away from your center. Your juices shine right on his chin when he looks up at you with needy eyes. He pants through an open mouth as he waits for your next instruction. You hold his head tilted back to make him look at your face. “You’re so fucking impatient,” you taunt while watching his chest heave. He tries to lean forward again, but you pin him in place. “Fucking desperate,” you state as you observe him beg for another taste. The punishment of being so close yet so far from his reach drives him crazy.
A heavy breath escapes him while he stares up at your face, and his hands twitch behind his back as he fights the urge to grab your thighs. You let him suffer on his knees for a few more seconds before deciding what to do next. The desperation in his eyes proves how much he hates disappointing you today. He rubs his cheek against your thigh to ask for forgiveness without using his words. Refusing to give him an immediate answer makes him squirm under your gaze. You run your thumb across his cheekbone as he leans into the touch. You let go of his hair and point straight at the floor. He frowns at you because he hates being pushed away right when he got a taste. He wants to dive back into your cunt, but he waits for your next instruction. “Move backward on your knees,” you order as you glare down at him. You can see the annoyance in his expression over the distance.
“Why do I have to move?” he whines while staring at your wet slit. Looking so desperate makes him pathetic. He actually thinks he gets a say in this. “I was doing what you wanted,” he argues as he refuses to budge. You wonder if he really believes arguing will change your mind. “Did I ask for your opinion?” you ask while keeping your finger pointed down. His eyes widen when he realizes you might make him stop for good. “Four steps back right now,” you demand so he knows you mean it. Frustration makes him groan before he shuffles backward on his knees to put some distance between you two. You watch him move away before you lift your hips off the couch cushion. You slide your wet panties down your legs so you can step out of them. You grab the soaked material before tossing it onto the floor right in front of his knees. Pure instinct makes his hand shoot out from behind his back to snatch it up.
“I’m keeping these,” he grunts as he shoves the wet fabric into his pocket. He acts like a feral dog hoarding food because he refuses to let you take it away. “Don’t try to take them back,” he begs while guarding his pants. You roll your eyes at his behavior before deciding to give him a break instead of punishing the slip. “You can bring your other hand out from behind your back,” you state to give him full permission. He brings his arms forward to reach for you because he thinks he gets to feel your body after being denied for so long. He wants to grab your thighs, but you point straight at his pants before he can touch your legs. He drops his hands while he looks up at you in confusion. “You won’t let me touch you?” he whines as he stares up at your face. He stares at his empty hands like he expects you to change your mind. You can see how much he hates being denied after following your orders. “I just want to hold your legs,” he pleads while looking between your face and your thighs.
Begging only proves how desperate he is for physical contact. “Take it out and touch yourself,” you command as you point down at his pants. He swallows hard because he realizes you intend to keep denying him. You lean back against the couch cushions while you look down at his pathetic expression. “You haven’t earned the right to touch me,” you state to remind him of his place. He looks down at his jeans before looking right back at your wet cunt. “Just tell me I can taste you again,” he begs while his hands shake in front of his chest. You refuse to answer him until he does what you told him to do. He undoes his belt and unbuttons his pants to free his hard cock from his jeans. He pulls his dick straight out from his underwear without taking his clothes off. He wraps his fingers around himself to stroke his cock while he watches your face. “F-fuck- mmh,” he stutters as he pumps his fist up and down his shaft.
You nod in approval so he knows he can come back to his spot between your legs. “Come here,” you offer as you monitor him jerking off. He works his hand faster as he scrambles forward on his knees to reach you. He hurries back to his spot between your legs without stopping his hand. He buries his face back into your wet cunt so he can lick you out while stroking his own dick. He pumps his fist along his shaft as his tongue swipes right against your slick folds. He lets out a muffled groan against your slit when he tastes you again. He laps at your clit as he jerks himself off right in front of you. You watch him devour you while his hand moves fast over his cock. He uses his mouth on you without hesitation since his hands are too busy to touch your thighs. He dips his chin down a bit to align his mouth with your opening before he curls his tongue to push it just past your folds.
He slides it into your slick entrance before dragging it back out to thrust in again while a sloppy noise comes from his lips. He strokes his own cock with his fist while he breathes loud enough to hear over the sounds of his mouth. “Fuck- Dex-” you groan while tilting your hips closer to his face. He looks good on his knees. “Ahhn- right there,” you curse as his tongue works inside you. You watch him swallow saliva leaking past his mouth. He takes orders better than you expected. “Keep doing that,” you command while looking down at him. He needs leverage to hold his mouth in place, and his empty hand reaches out to grab your thigh for support. You smack the back of his hand the second your fingers brush your leg, but he brings his arm right back up. His fingers twitch toward your knee a few moments later because he wants to grab you. “Mnn- keep your hands down,” you warn while glaring at his messy face.
You slap his knuckles hard enough to leave a mark the moment he tries to sneak his palm toward your waist. A pathetic whine vibrates against your cunt every time you reject his touch, but he refuses to pull his mouth away even after you slap him. “F-fuck... yeah,” you sigh while he swallows down another whine. He pumps his fist up and down his shaft while his tongue laps at your opening. He attempts to slide his fingers over your calf one last time before you lift your foot and dig your heel right into his shoulder to push him back. “You don’t get to touch me,” you taunt as he whines against your slit. He takes the rough treatment without a fight because he refuses to stop tasting you. He presses his empty hand against the base of the couch to hold himself back. He pants through his nose to catch his breath between each push of his tongue. “Feels good,” you praise while watching him take the punishment.
You see his eyes dart up to follow your hip movements. You want him to beg for a touch later. “Shit- fuck yes,” you curse as his mouth laps at you. He looks up at you through his eyelashes to gauge your reaction, and the sight of his messy face makes you arch your back off the cushion. Arching your hips forces your clit to bump right against his nose while his tongue pushes at your entrance. “Nngh- take it,” you demand while your hips press forward. He exhales against your folds while his hand moves fast over his cock. You stop telling him what to do once the pleasure gets too much and your breath breaks into ragged sighs. You drop your head back against the couch cushions before lifting one hand to cover your eyes and hide your face while Benjamin watches you fall apart. “Nnngh... fuck,” you whine as you struggle to catch your breath. He lets go of his own shaft because he needs to use both hands.
He ignores your previous warnings to reach up from between his legs and wrap his fingers right around your bare thigh. He pushes your knee outward to open you up for his mouth while your free hand tries to swat his knuckles. You move too slow to stop him, and his other hand comes up fast to catch your wrist before you can slap him. He forces your arm straight down into the upholstery to hold you in place. He presses your arm against the cushion while his other hand holds your thigh tightly. He observes your face while you gasp for air. “Shh- let me just hold your leg,” he murmurs while staring right at you. You yank your arm against his grip, but he refuses to let go. “Y-you don’t get to do that-” you stutter as your hips twitch. “You don’t have to fight me,” he interrupts without raising his voice as he waits for you to stop struggling. “Mmn- let me take care of you,” he tells you before leaning forward.
He holds your arm down and brings his mouth back to your folds while his tongue moves slowly over your clit. A frustrated noise escapes you when he refuses to go faster, and your hips jerk forward to chase his mouth. He pulls his head back an inch to let his tongue graze your clit because he refuses to give you the pleasure you want. “Hah- nngh... faster,” you beg while twisting the wrist he presses against the couch. He ignores your begging and instead uses the distance to speak. “Don’t cover your eyes,” he instructs while squeezing your thigh harder. You press your hand against your face to hide your expression until he nudges his nose against your clit to force a reaction out of you. “Fuck you- ahhhnn,” you curse while moving your hand away from your eyes to glare down at him. “Look right at me,” he demands before diving his tongue back inside your hole. You stare down at his messy face while he drags his tongue over your clit over and over without speeding up.
He knows you need him to go faster, but he refuses to change his pace while your toes curl and you squirm against the cushion. “Hngh... Dex, please,” you beg while arching your back. He pushes his tongue inside you the second you ask for it. “I got you,” he promises while he laps at your entrance to make you beg for everything. You drop your free hand from your face down to his head to tangle your fingers in his hair. You shove his face hard against your folds to force his nose right into your slit. You thrust your hips up to grind your cunt against his mouth. “I never told you to touch me,” you spit out while glaring down at his messy face. You tighten your fingers in the strands at the base of his neck. “Y-you didn’t get my permission to put your hands on me- nghh,” you scold while you grind your hips against his nose. He ignores your complaints to let go of your thigh and move his hand higher up your leg. He finds your clit and rubs his thumb over it to shut you up.
You thrash against him, but he shoves your pinned arm harder into the couch to stop you from fighting back. He thrusts his tongue inside your hole while his thumb rubs over your clit. Your words cut off into a loud groan because his tongue and thumb move at the same time. You yank his hair to hold his face against your slit because you want him closer. “Hngh... f-fuck,” you stutter as your hips grind up to chase his mouth. He strokes your clit with his thumb right in time with the thrust of his tongue. He rubs you over and over to make your hips shake against the couch. Your breathing turns into short gasps while you ride his mouth. “Hah- ahhhnn... right there,” you beg while your back arches up. He pushes his tongue further inside your cunt to answer your demands. You lose the ability to scold him because you need his mouth too much. Your toes curl against the floor while you grind against his face.
“Don’t you fucking stop- nnngh,” you command while your nails dig into his scalp. He rubs his thumb over your clit to make you beg. You gasp for air because you need what he does to you. “I swear to God, Dex- mmph,” you curse while your hips jerk against his nose. Benjamin feels your hips jerk against his face before he leans back to take his mouth away from your slit. He moves his tongue just out of reach while you thrash against the sofa because you want the release bad enough to fight for it. “Wh-what the fuck are you doing? Nnh- don’t stop,” you complain while you tug his hair to force his head back down. He refuses to budge, but he presses his thumb over your clit. He looks up at your face while you stare back at him. “Tell me how much you like my mouth on you,” he demands while he watches your expression. He presses his thumb against you to make you speak.
“Tell me to make you cum,” he taunts while he drags his finger over your clit to pull another moan from your throat. You spit out a curse, but your chest heaves for air. “Fuck you... You don’t get to order me around- ahhn,” you stutter as your hips jerk up to chase him. Your cunt clenches with a need you can’t control while your legs shake on either side of his head. Your fingers twist into his hair before you stop fighting him because you crave his mouth way too much. “Fine... God, I like it,” you admit while you let out a ragged breath. Your fingers untangle from his hair when you give up. “Please Dex... mnnnh- make me cum,” you beg as you give him all your attention. He pushes his face right back into you the second you confess to sliding his tongue over your slit. You let out a loud gasp when he releases your pinned arm and his fingers dig into your thighs while he speeds up his pace. He moves his thumb faster until your breath hitches, and you lift your shoulders off the backrest to get closer to him.
Your hands leave his hair to grab his shoulders to drag his mouth straight against your folds. “Dex- Fuck- yes...” you gasp while you dig your nails into his skin. He grunts against your slit before dragging his tongue over your clit to make you cum. His mouth makes your head fall back before a loud moan escapes your throat. Your toes curl while your back arches off the sofa. You squeeze your thighs around his ears while you thrust your hips up into his face. Your hips jerk while you cum all over his tongue. He leaves his mouth against your slit to swallow every drop. He laps his tongue across your folds to clean you up, and he refuses to move away until your legs stop shaking. You drop your back onto the couch to catch your breath. “God... hahh... you’re a bastard,” you mumble while you let your eyes fall shut. Benjamin chuckles against you before he speaks up. “I always get what I want,” he states while he places a kiss right over your clit.
Benjamin pulls away from your thighs before he gets up from the floor. He places his feet on either side of your legs to tower over you. Both of you look down at his cock because he stopped jerking off to make you cum. His dick twitches in the open air while he catches his breath. You tilt your head back to look up at his face. A smirk forms on your lips when you look at his undone pants. “Looks like someone got left out,” you point out as you gesture toward his crotch. You lean forward to reach your hand out toward his waist. You wrap your fingers around his cock to take him into your palm. “Sh-shit- fuck,” Benjamin groans when your hand grabs him. He tilts his head back while a rough breath escapes his lips. You drag your hand up and down his dick without speeding up the pace. He thrusts his hips forward into your palm because he needs more. You squeeze his cock to stop him from moving.
You rub your thumb over the tip of his dick. “Let me finish what you started,” you offer while you look up at him. He lets out a rough grunt before he glares down at you. “D-don’t play with it- ngh,” he grunts as he pushes his waist against your palm. You ignore his words to drag your hand up his length again. You wrap your fingers tighter around him to make him gasp. “Mmn- I guess you want this,” you murmur while you stroke him at a slow pace. Benjamin mutters a curse under his breath before his fingers clamp around the wrist of the hand wrapped around his cock. He pulls at your arm to move your fingers away from him, but you refuse to let go. “You’re going to make me- ngh,” he groans while his knees buckle. You use your free hand to grab his hip to pull him closer to the couch. You pump your hand over his cock again to pull another moan out of his throat. He watches your face while you move your fist up and down.
“Fuck... do it,” he commands as he lets go of your wrist. You grab his hip to drag him down onto the other side of the couch before he drops onto the seat to face you with his legs spread wide apart. You scoot forward to close the distance between your bodies, and he watches your face when you tighten your fingers around his cock. You lean in to put your lips against his neck as you pump your hand up and down his shaft until a loud breath escapes his throat the second your mouth touches him. “Are you going to beg for my mouth?” you ask him before you press kisses up to his jaw and you rub your thumb over the tip of his cock. He thrusts his hips into your palm to get closer to your hand as you move your face next to his ear to keep teasing him. You drag your fist down to the base of his shaft to force a loud gasp from his throat. “Or should I just keep using my hand?” you mock him while you stroke him again.
He tilts his head to the side to give you more room before you speak up. “Are you going to cum like this?” you whisper right next to his ear. Benjamin lets out a loud groan to stop your questions. He grabs your thigh to dig his fingers into your leg while he shoves his hips forward into your hand to force a faster pace. “F-fuck you... just use your mouth,” he demands while he glares at you. You smile at him because you got the answer you wanted. You slide your hand up his length one more time to torture him. “Stop talking and do it- ngh,” he curses when you squeeze his cock. You lean back from his face to look at his cock before you let go of his shaft to lower your head between his legs. Benjamin tilts his head back when you open your mouth over him to take the tip of his cock past your lips. He lets out a loud curse when your tongue slides against him. His fingers dig into your thigh while you take more of his length into your mouth.
“God... f-fuck,” he groans as he thrusts forward into your face. You move your lips further along his shaft to take more of his length into your mouth. You swirl your tongue around the head before you suck him deep. Benjamin thrusts his hips forward to chase your mouth while he moves his free hand to grab the strands of your hair. He throws his head back to take a loud breath before he curses out loud. “F-fuck yes... don’t stop,” he groans while his hips thrust toward your face. You keep your head lowered to give him what he wants. He guides your head with his fingers to control the pace. You reach your hand out to wrap your fingers around the base of his cock to stroke him while your mouth takes the rest of his length. Benjamin digs his other hand deeper into your thigh when you use your mouth and hand at the same time. You trace your tongue along the underside before you drag your mouth toward the tip.
He pushes forward from the couch to get deeper past your lips. “God... you feel so fucking good- hah,” he pants as he watches you take him. You stroke the bottom of his cock while your mouth slides over the tip. His breathing speeds up every time your lips move against him. You slide your mouth up his shaft to tease the tip with your tongue. Benjamin lets out a loud grunt before he tugs on your hair to guide your head back down to his cock. “Put it back in your mouth... f-fuck,” he demands while he glares at you. You sink your mouth all the way down to his base to give him what he asked for. He shoves his hips forward to bury himself deep in your throat. You gag around his cock, and you let out a muffled sound against his base while you take his full length. He holds your hair so you can’t move away from him. You suck his cock while you stroke his base with your hand.
Benjamin thrusts his hips forward every time you lower your head. He squeezes your leg because the feeling gets too intense. “Shit... mmf- yes... keep going- nghh,” he curses as he watches your mouth move over him. You circle your tongue around the head one more time before you move your lips back to the tip. He tilts his head back against the couch to catch his breath. You move your hand faster while you watch his face. Benjamin lifts his fingers from your thigh before he grabs your wrist. He pulls your arm away from him to remove your hand from his cock. He drops your arm to your side because he prefers your mouth on him right now. He stares down at your face while you kneel on the couch. “Keep your hands off... take it the right way- ahn,” he commands while he waits for you to obey. He thrusts his hips forward to get closer to your mouth. You open your lips to do exactly what he says. You suck the tip of his cock, but you refuse to take his full length.
You swirl your tongue around the head to tease him instead of going deep. Benjamin mutters a curse before his fingers twist into the strands of your hair. He thrusts his hips forward into your face without giving you time to adjust. He forces his cock down your throat to make you gag around his shaft. A muffled noise escapes you when he bottoms out past your lips. “F-fuck... I told you to take all of it,” he groans while he pushes your head down. He refuses to let you pull back from him. You pull your head back a few inches to glare up at his face. You reach out to plant both of your hands onto his covered thighs. You dig your nails into the fabric of his pants to push back against him. Benjamin keeps his hand tangled in your hair to guide your head up and down his cock. He forces a slower pace to keep himself from thrusting deep into your mouth again. “Yeah... look right at me while you do it- hngh,” he pants as he watches your eyes.
He bobs your head over his shaft while you swallow around his length every time he pushes you down. Your hands tighten on his thighs whenever his cock hits the back of your throat. He lets out a loud grunt when your lips wrap around his base. He uses his hand in your hair to make sure you take every single inch of him. “Keep your mouth wide for me... fuck,” he demands while he speeds up his movements. You let out another gagging sound when he forces his entire length past your lips again. He watches your mouth take his cock without looking away. His hips thrust forward into your face despite his efforts to hold himself back. “God... this feels so fucking amazing- mmf,” he groans as he keeps pumping your head. Benjamin keeps his hand tangled in your hair so you can’t pull away from him. He holds your head in place to stop bobbing you up and down because he wants to thrust his hips forward from the sofa instead.
He shoves his waist forward to do the work himself. He forces his length past your lips without waiting for you to adjust. “Take it all the way down- fuck,” he pants while he pushes right into your face. He thrusts his waist forward to bury his cock deep past your lips. He forces his full length down your throat every single time he shoves it in. You gag around his shaft when he reaches the very back of your throat. He pumps forward to force you to swallow every inch of him. “Ghk- Mmph-” you choke out while you take his length. You try to latch onto his covered thighs to dig your nails into his pants while he thrusts forward. He pulls his cock out to the tip before he shoves it straight down your throat again. He lets out a low groan while he fucks your mouth at a faster pace. He watches your face to see you take his entire length. “Swallow it all for me,” he tells you while looking down at you. His hips slap against your face while he speeds up his thrusts.
He trembles under your hands because he gets closer to cumming. He shoves his cock deeper down your throat to make your eyes water. You choke around his shaft while you struggle to swallow his full length. He tightens his fingers in your hair to make sure you take all of it. “Shit... I’m so fucking close-” he curses while his knees start to shake. Benjamin thrusts his hips forward to shove his cock as deep as it can go. He forces his full length down your throat to make you choke. His fingers twist tighter into your hair when his shaft buries inside your mouth. “Fuck... don’t move,” he groans while his hips push forward. You gag when he reaches the back of your throat. He shoves forward to make sure you take every inch of him. He lets out a loud grunt when he shoots his cum down your throat. His load fills your mouth until it starts to spill down your chin. “Mmmph- hkkh!” you choke around his cock while he pumps into you.
He twitches inside your mouth while he empties his shaft completely. You swallow as much as you can to handle the amount he forces out. He keeps his hand tangled in your hair, so you have to take every drop. He takes a fast breath before he pushes your head away from his crotch. He lets go of your hair to slump back against the couch so you can breathe. His cock twitches with a few drops of cum right at the tip. “Haaah... shit- you took all of it,” he pants while he looks down at your face. You move away from his thighs to lean back against the sofa. He spreads his legs a bit wider on the furniture while he catches his breath. He rests his head against the backrest to watch you recover. You let out a cough to clear your throat. You wipe the spit and cum from your chin before you glare at his face. You shoot him an angry look because he made you choke on it. “A-asshole- you didn’t even warn me,” you spit out while you catch your breath.
He chuckles a little bit while he watches you wipe your mouth. He reaches out to rub a drop of spit from the corner of your lips. “You handled it perfectly,” he says while he traces your jawline. You reach out to grab the front of his shirt to drag his face closer to yours without giving him a chance to back away. He doesn’t fight you because he wants to hear what you have to say. You lean in to brush your lips right next to his ear. “I know exactly how good I took it,” you whisper while you breathe against his neck. He tilts his head to give you more room to speak. You change your tone to bring up the job he messed up today. You remind him that he disappointed you when he failed to kill Karen. His jaw clenches the second you mention Karen and ruins his good mood. “It’s a damn shame you let that bitch live,” you mock him right next to his ear. He turns his face to look at you with an annoyed expression while you smirk back at him to show you aren’t intimidated at all. You tap your fingers against his chest to make your point clear. You glare up at him to show you’re serious about the job.
He watches your eyes while you tell him what to do next. “You need to fix your mistake before I lose my patience,” you demand as you dig your nails into his shirt. He lets out a hard breath through his nose while he listens to every single word you tell him. You drag your eyes down to his twitching cock before you look back up at his face. You promise him a much better reward if he actually finishes the job this time. “Bring me her head, and I’ll let you fuck my cunt,” you whisper while you trace his jawline. He chuckles because he likes the way you threaten him. “You drive a really hard bargain,” he pants as he imagines it. “I’ll get it done if you promise me that,” he tells you while he leans his forehead against yours. “Do we have a deal?” you ask him after you move your head back a little bit to look right into his eyes. You watch his face because you know he will never turn down an offer like that. He nods to agree while he rests his hands on your waist. “Consider her dead,” he promises before he leans forward to kiss you.

Dex thinks humankind are just insects, they live a bit and then die and that’s the lot. There’s no mercy in things, there’s not even a great beyond. There’s nothing—his hatred for all was so intense that it should extinguish the very love from which it was conceived. And thus, Dex ceased to feel. There was nothing further in which to believe that made the prospect of feeling worthwhile.
He discovered this about himself at sixteen, in one summer, when the headmaster of the Lyndhurst Home for Boys had stopped breathing mid-sentence at the supper table, collapsing. The other teenagers had wept—great, heaving, theatrical displays of grief that had struck Dex as almost pornographic in their excess. He watched them, and felt nothing. Not sadness nor relief, not even the mild satisfaction of witnessing an inconvenience remove itself from his path.
Nothing. The word had felt like a gift, unwrapped and held up to the light. An absence so complete it became its own presence.
He drinks his coffee sweet and creamy and hasn’t touched another person’s body by choice in years. Still, it isn’t loneliness because loneliness implies lack, and Benjamin Poindexter lacks nothing he wants.
What he wants is the problem.
Or rather—what he wants has never arrived, never been existing, never known to man. He’s had chances to watch desire from the outside, the way one might study a fugitive through a binoculars; flushed cheeks of couples when they argue on the sidewalk, the trembling hands of teenagers when they confess their petty infatuations, the way his elderly neighbour’s voice goes soft and stupid when she talks about her late husband.
For all its grandiose, Dex had never once envied them. All a dim illusion, was it? Surely it was foolish of him to think any of this had meaning. He would then spend hours staring at the night sky, wondering how best to pass the time if everything, even the sky itself, were for naught.
Until you, Dex supposes.
Tuesdays are meaningless to him, they’re depressing. Why are Tuesdays so depressing?
Dex once read an article on the internet that suggested the most productive day of the work week is Tuesday, which only proves that productivity is a disease and humans are its willing hosts. He has nothing against Tuesdays specifically, only against the assumption that any day should matter more than another when all of them end the same way; in silence, and the mechanical act of loading his sniper just to feel the magazine seat properly against his palm.
Dex had been counting his days into laying low. The AVTF has his face on file, his fingerprints, his particular brand of violence listed and cross referenced. He wants Wilson Fisk dead, so Dex waits. He takes the apartment with low rent, because it has windows facing the street so he could see, also because the landlord asked no questions when Dex paid him cash and a knife to his throat, the walls are thin enough to hear the couple next door fuckin, and the nice old woman below watching the same game shows on repeat. White noise. The soundtrack of people living their insignificant, dying lives.
But he also needs his coffee, that’s the whole of it. Need is a strong word—want is more accurate, but want means appetite, and Dex has never had much of that either. He simply knows that caffeine sharpens certain neural pathways, and he’d been sitting in the dark for three hours, rolling a catholic token across his knuckles, for his hands have begun to feel like they belong to someone else.
The coffee shop’s name was as basic as it looked like. Dex has been a frequent customer here and it wasn’t because the coffee was exceptional, no—it was entirely something else. Shop’s almost empty, too. A man in a beanie taps at a laptop in the corner. A woman with grey hair reads a paperback so worn its spine has split into three distinct sections. Dex’s gaze sweeps over the vastness of the area, looking for someone until it lands to who he was looking for.
There you are, Dex thinks. He’s smiling. Between his plans, the surveillance, and the hunt to eliminate Kingpin’s circus, AVTF—there are gaps. Hours that belong to no one but himself.
Dex spends them watching you.
You were behind the counter, wiping down the steam wand with a rag that’s seen better days. Your hair is pulled back, a few strands escaping to frame your face. You weren’t looking at him—you haven’t even noticed him yet, and you were humming under your breath, some song Dex couldn’t name if his life depended on it, the sound travels through the ambient noise of the café.
Dex approaches the counter and his posture shifts; shoulders dropping, spine relaxing, it was a deliberate imitation of ease.
“Good morning,” he greeted along with your name, Dex’s eyes drifted to the name tag on your chest, just long enough to prove he looked, and then his gaze returned to your face again.
“Oh—hi, Tony,” you say almost delightfully, and there’s a flicker of recognition in your eyes. “The usual?”
Months ago, you didn’t know his face. Then weeks later, you have come to learn his order and fake given name. Today, you have christened it the usual, as though his presence here has weight, that his absence would have left a hole for you. Dex feels a smile try to happen, but he swallows it down.
“Yes,” he replies. “Please.” Because Dex is good like that. He wants to be that—for you. He wants to be anything you want him to be. If only you would allow him.
You nodded and turned to the espresso machine, your back half turned to him as you reached for the portafilter. Dex stood at the counter watching the movements of your hands—your efficiency to tamp the grounds, and the slight tremor in your left wrist that suggested either fatigue or a healed injury, he watched you tuck a strand of hair behind your ear and revealed the soft hollow just below it.
You’ve been working here for six months, and Dex knows this because he’s learned the schedule changes taped to the back office door, visible through the crack when the manager leaves it ajar. Tuesday through Saturday, opening shift. You take your break at ten, give or take four minutes, spending it in the alley behind the dumpster with a paperback book and a lit cigarette placed between your lips, taking long drags.
Dex also has learned the titles of these books you’ve been bringing to work. He’d read all of them, sometimes after he comes home from killing some of the AVTF agents, his laptop open on his kitchen table while the camera feeds from your apartment, appearing on a secondary monitor.
He installed those three weeks ago.
It had been remarkably simple, your building’s security was a god damn joke—a buzzer system that could be bypassed with a paperclip and a landlords’ indifference that bordered on criminal negligence. Your apartment was a studio type on the third floor; one doorman, and a few old cameras in the hallway. Dex let himself in on a random day, when he knew from two weeks of observation you would be out meeting your friends, and your downstairs neighbour, Mr. Hargrove, would be watching his late-night Westerns loud enough to cover any incidental noise.
The cameras were small. Disposable. It was the kind Dex could buy with cash at four different electronics stores across the city, assembling the components piecemeal so no single transaction would register. He placed one in the smoke detector above your bed, one in the charging block you kept plugged in by the microwave, and then in the spine of a cookbook on your shelf that you had never opened.
Careless, he thinks, and the word carries no judgment, only perception. You are careless. You leave your curtains half open at night, offering anyone with eyes a view of your living room. You check your phone while walking home, earbuds in, oblivious to the world around you. You never look over your shoulder nor do you ever cross the street to avoid a stranger.
You are, in every measurable way, a target waiting to be acquired.
What if somebody follows you? Dex wanted to confront. What if somebody learns your routine, memorizes your schedule, watches you through the gaps in your defenses? What if somebody is already watching—and you have no idea? You should be more careful, he thinks as he stands inside your living room while on the other side of the room you sleep peacefully. You don’t know who’s watching.
If he were a different kind of man—if he were the kind of man he is warning you against, Dex could do anything to you, and you wouldn’t even wake until it was too late.
“How’s your day going?” you suddenly ask, snapping him back to reality, you slide the finished cup across the counter. Your fingers brush his, brief—electric. His cock twitched at the contact.
What should he tell you? His day has consisted of three hours of surveillance on a AVTF supply route, forty five minutes of strength training, a cold shower in which he imagined your hands running wet on his back, and the slow torture of cleaning his sidearm while listening to the couple next door argue about whose turn it was to buy groceries.
Dex didn’t think you wanted to hear any of this, did you? He wondered what your reaction would be if he said what he was thinking.
“It was eventful,” he says instead. “But almost quiet.”
You nodded like you understand. “Those are the best kind,” your lips turn up slowly, soft expression. “The quiet days.”
Dex wants to say something back. Wants to explain his version of quiet days are the dangerous ones, where his thoughts get loud, the buzzing in his head threatens to turn into worse—rage, grief, or the type of wanting that has no object and therefore no end.
But you were looking at him with those eyes—those innocent eyes that have somehow become the only fixed point in his drifting, Dex finds that he cannot contradict you.
“I’ll see you tomorrow?” a hopeful tone in your voice, he noticed.
Dex nodded, smiling. Showing his teeth. “I wouldn't dream of being anywhere else.”
His hands are shaking and he’s inside your apartment—where you undress, where you sit in your chair with your back to the window and your face turned away from the world. The air smells faintly of you despite your lack of presence, and it makes his chest tighten. Everything about him hurts.
Dex almost died today.
Although he knows he wasn’t ever going to, not like that, at least. He couldn’t, especially now that he’s found his north star. But the AVTF has gotten faster, smarter. Someone has been feeding them information, and he has a short list of suspects, in which all of them will be dead by the end of the month, Dex guarantees. And yet, that’s not what matters right now—what matters was the shit that happened in the second between hearing the shot and dodging it.
He thought of you.
Your name fallen on his busted lips, your face blooming in his peripheral vision like a dark flower. His brain is tricky sometimes, it offered him a vision of the future—your expression, three days from now, glancing at the door of the coffee shop, waiting for a man who would never walk through it again. You wouldn’t understand why you felt the absence so acutely ( you don’t even know his real name ) but you would feel it. Emptiness. And eventually, you would stop waiting, and you would take someone else’s order, remember them instead of his, then you would have forgotten him entirely. Dex can’t allow that.
You have no one if he dies. He’s already checked. No partner, no roommate, no family that calls more than once a month, plus, you only have three friends you see on rotations. You are alone in this city, and the city is a mouth full of teeth with Dex’s only hand reaching into it.
The idea of dying would mean leaving you unprotected, the thought of someone else’s hands on you, someone else’s eyes gawking, makes the shaking in his hands feel like rage.
You’ve made him yours, even if you don’t know it. You’ve given Dex a reason to wake up in the morning that wasn’t spite nor the grind of survival. He will not let that go—he will not let you go. Even if it meant he has to crawl back from the grave to watch over you, Dex will.
He’ll appear in full gear, the armor of ugly indefinite livability, the real body, alive or decay—he’ll appear like a thundering, and he’ll save you.
So he’d decided to put a tracker into the lining of your coat for safety purposes, the one you wear every day to work, hangs on the hook by the door. Dex contemplates putting one inside your body, too. Perhaps if it ever comes to that point. He’ll watch you swallow your carbonated drink, and it would have been there, swirling inside you. Unremovable.
Then he sits on your bed and only for a moment. He wanted to know what it feels like, his long fingers running along your sheets and they are soft—cheap cotton, washed so many times they’ve lost their stiffness. Your pillow still holds the dent of your head, he puts his face there, buried within and inhaled deeply. Dex would offer it all, any trade, any sacrifice, anything to become yours. Maybe he’d cut his soul into a million different pieces just to form a constellation to light your way home.
Dex’s still in his gear, masked face, and his breathing is uneven. The suit feels tighter, somehow, or perhaps it’s the aftermath of the bullet that almost split his skull, his kevlar weave felt warm against his chest, holding the heat of his body from the chase. His knuckles bruised beneath the gloves, there’s blood on his cuff he knew wasn’t his own.
He doesn’t care about any of that, and instead goes to press his face deeper into your pillow, the scent of you floods his senses. Dex’s breathing changes, heavier. The adrenaline from the fight hasn’t left him and now was being redirected—pooling low in his belly, curling through his thighs, making him ache in a way that has nothing to do with the mild injuries he’s ignoring.
His cock was painfully hard.
And without thinking, Dex reaches down; his calloused hands fumbling with the armored waistband of his tactical pants until his cock sprang loose; thick and pulsing, already weeping with a bead of pre cum. His fingers wrapped around the length of him and it felt nearly unbearable as it demanded this sweet sweet release that mirrored the buzzing in his ears from the fight.
He then would lay back, his broad shoulders spreading across your pillows, and gripped himself. His hand was large enough to nearly swallow the girth of his cock, then he’d began to stroke a slow, heavy slide of leathered palm against skin, his thumb tracing the ridge of his tip with pressure.
“Mm. Fuck,” Dex groaned your name, tasting the blood in his mouth, his gaze drifted towards the empty pillow beside him, imagining your head resting there, innocent eyes staring right back at him. He could come in the mere thought of that, he thinks.
He shut his eyes closed, and tries to visualize your face. All you—you and your kindness, the way you would smile at him every time he comes to the coffee shop, how you never seemed to be bothered that Dex would sit there for hours even if his cup was already finished long ago, and why you never seemed to look at his way. Why don’t you look at him?
His pace quickened, his breathing turning into shallow hitches that reverberated across your bedroom. Dex didn’t know how to be gentle when his blood was this hot. He grasped himself with a white knuckled intensity, his hand sliding up and down in punishing strokes. Dex’s grunts became more frequent as he jerked himself harder and faster, using his pre cum as lube for the time being.
He wanted to feel the friction—the sheer overwhelming sensation of his own body responding to the memory of you. Dex imagined your hands; those delicate hands replacing his own, your fingers tracing the scar on his cheek before sliding down to claim his cock, or your lips wrapped around his entirety, gagging with tears prickling in the corner of your eyes, motioning him to stop but he’d go on, tell you it’s gonna be okay, that he wouldn’t hurt you like that, then—he’d thrust his hips forward, his cock would reach the back of your throat so deep he’d feel you choke on it.
“I need you,” he whines feverishly, your name falling on his lips repeatedly, and the pressure built behind his eyes, a mounting tension that reflects the ache in his groin. Dex needed you, even if you weren’t here to witness his desperation. “Fuck—please, I need you—please.”
Dex could feel it then, the familiar yet terrifying surge of a climax approaching, and there was nothing more he wanted than to spill himself into your space, to leave a part of his existence on your sheets. With a sharp, strangled cry that he muffled against the fabric of your pillow, Dex buckled. His body jolted, muscles snapping taut as he came into the thought of you.
Yours, he thinks over, and the word is a prayer. Yours, yours, yours.
He shuddered violently, his vision blurring as he emptied himself all over, and the hot thick reality of his cum coating the fabric in a humiliating sprawl. Letting out a shuddering exhale, his forehead remained pressed hard against the pillow as the aftershocks of the orgasm rippled through his heavy limbs. He felt drained, utterly revolting.
Dex stayed there for a while, slumped over your bed like a fallen soldier, with his skin slick in a mixture of sweat and the cooling remnants of his release.
He’ll clean them later, Dex thinks. First, he wants to cherish this moment.
Everything you do, you do it alone.
Years ago, you have decided that love was not for meant for someone like you. You had watched your peers catch it like a fever, trading their dignity for the shallow comfort of a hand held in the dark. It’s awful, your watching; the refusal to participate, the ogling and smug superiority, and the approximation of a true desire. It’s fake, you assumed. But it isn’t. Sometimes you can feel them pretending to know love more than you, they’re pretending yes, but it doesn't matter because they’re actually doing it.
There’s no ounce of motivation to form genuine connection so you’d choose to sit in the sidelines instead. You hadn’t remembered a time where you’ve longed for people. Was it when you were a child, full of naivety, purest of heart—never knowing the reality outside the door? You feel like a spectator of your own life.
You keep trying to slip away from everyone around you, it was written all over your face, and you should have been used to the feeling by then, you reasoned. But the feeling of unbelonging had started much earlier. Since childhood, there had been a glass wall between you and the rest of the world; you saw things in fractures, had noted the way the light died in the corners of the room, or how people used words like ambition to mask their fear of being mediocre.
This job as a barista was eating you alive, but you had no other choice anyway.
You had friends back home, of course. People you’ve grown up with, people you’ve met during high school—but you have never allowed yourself to let them see the entirety of you. Were you afraid? You supposed, till now, that you are. And you thought that maybe moving to an entirely different city would change that feeling; that you’ll become an entirely different person—you would never feel it anymore.
You had never felt more alone in your life. The truth was, no matter where you go, you will always be caged within yourself. There’s no escaping you.
There’s this stranger though. Tony. He comes to the café almost every day at the same time, it’s kind of endearing how he has his own routine even if you don’t know the whole of it. You also think he was attractive, probably a lot older than you, too. He’s nice. Talks to you sometimes when you ask him about his day, nothing of substance but at least he wasn’t creepy. He was just kinda there.
You were on your way home. It’s late, you’re a little tipsy from the bar you and your friends went to, and the vodka is still warm in your chest, loosening the usual tightness behind your ribs. You could have called a cab or booked a ride, but you decide to walk it off instead. Makes you feel grounded.
Long walks are something you’ve come to enjoy. Back home, it's all you ever did—walking, occupied by the surroundings, letting the city breathe around you while you held your own. The air was chilling, bites at your cheeks, and the sliver of skin between your scarf and your jacket. Then your building comes into view, stairs are endless but you take them one at a time, hand sliding along the banister, your reflection ghosting across the hallway windows.
Your hands struggle to find the keys, dropped them once on the stoop, and pick them up with clumsy fingers. The lock gives, and finally the door sighs shut behind you.
Inside your apartment, it was dark exactly as you left it. You don’t turn on the light—the streetlamp through your curtains is enough, casting everything in shades of blue and grey. You kick off your heels, then drop your keys in the bowl. Shrugging off your jacket and hanging it on the hook by the door, right where it always goes along with your untouched coat for work.
You were too intoxicated to notice the wrongness of your place, and too alone in your head to feel the weight of someone watching from the corner of your bedroom, pressed against the wall where the shadows are thickest, his breathing slow, deliberately silent.
You shuffle to your bed, and don’t notice the sheets were slightly rumpled more than you left them, but you were too exhausted to register the difference. Your whole body plops down onto the mattress face first, still in your clothes from the bar, and the world spins once behind your closed eyelids before settling into something manageable.
You just… sleep, surrendering to the pull of unconsciousness like stone sinking into deep water, your body heavy and warm and devastatingly unaware.
Dex knows he should leave. The tracker is in place, and he’s already pushed his luck further than any man would dare, but rationality left him the moment he heard you coming. He stares at you, sprawled across the bed you don’t know he stained with his cum from hours ago.
Then he moves, his boots make no sound on your floor, crosses the room in a few steps, then lowers himself to his knees beside your bed. His face levels with yours—close enough to feel the warmth radiating from your skin, you smell of liquor and nicotine, something underneath that is just you. Dex can already tell the headache you’ll have come morning, he wonders if you’ll work later or call it off with your boss.
He could take you right now. That’s the thought that circles his mind like a vulture. Take, take, take. Dex wants to touch you. God, he wants to touch you badly. You’re right there, pliant and warm and so fucking trusting, and the proximity is challenging. Dex has never been good at denying himself anything he truly wanted, but this—you, are different.
Not yet. Not tonight.
And if you saw him—if you opened your eyes and found a masked man kneeling beside your bed, still wearing the remnants of violence on his suit, you would scream and be terrified of him. You would look at him the way everyone eventually looks at him; a monster.
Dex doesn’t think he could survive that from you. He doesn’t touch, but he leans in anyway, his lips ghosting above your head.
“Good night,” he muttered under his breath, pressing his lips against your disheveled hair before turning around. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
The next morning, he arrives at the coffee shop before you do.
This is new for him, a deviation from routine, and Dex doesn’t deviate lightly. He woke at four in the morning because he heard muffled noises from his monitor. He had fallen asleep while watching you, then he realized you had a nightmare, that’s why.
Dex watched you thrash for three minutes before falling back to sleep; your limbs tangling in sheets, and small broken sounds escaping your lips. His hand hovering over the keyboard, fingers twitching with the urge to do something. To wake you, to hold you? He wants to promise you that whatever monster chased you through your dreams, he would kill it.
He couldn’t go back to sleep. So instead, he dressed, walked around for a bit, and then stood near the alleyway outside where you work, waiting. He checks his phone, and the live recording shows you were still asleep, turned onto your side, with one hand tucked under your pillow, he could see your breathing even. No more nightmares. Good. Dex would have hated to see you suffer twice in one night.
Your male coworker with the septum piercing opens the shop at seven. Lane with a last name he’d already forgotten. Twenty four years old, no girlfriend, and lives alone. He’s done his research, of course. He had to know the people who surrounded you.
Dex exhales slowly, and the cloud of his breath dissipates into the dark. The boy thinks he’s being subtle with his lingering glances and his casual touches, but Dex sees everything. He sees the way Lane’s gaze drops to your mouth when you’re not looking, sees the way the boy positions himself near you during slow hours, always finding excuses to be in your personal space. Harmless, he tells himself. It’s harmless, though it doesn’t stop the way his jaw tightens every time you indulge yourself in your coworker’s antics.
Was it luck? Timing? Did Lane simply exist in the right place at the right moment, and you decided he was worth your attention? Dex has been coming to this shop for months. He’s been polite and patient. He made himself appear warm and approachable for you, and yet you still look at him like he’s a stranger.
He needs to do something. Kill Lane or finally talk to you properly, Dex doesn’t know—but he needs to make his move.
“You’re early,” you greeted him as he approached the counter, half yawning and your eyes looked exhausted. But you did try to look presentable in front of a customer.
“Hey,” he says with your name, his mouth twitches. “Couldn’t sleep, I thought I’d get an early start.”
“Me neither,” you admitted, and your voice seemed quieter now, more private. “Hangover and bad dreams.”
“Tell me about it.”
You shake your head. “I don’t remember anymore. Just the feeling… you know the type that sticks around after you wake up? Yeah, that’s—I mean, yeah. Sorry. Uh, the usual?”
“I’m so sorry to hear that,” there’s something almost boyish in the way Dex fumbles over the words, desperately attempting to sound genuine like a person who understands what you’re feeling, but the effort shows he’s trying. “It must have been hard, really hard.”
“It’s okay,” You shrug, a small and worn down gesture. “Comes with the territory.”
Dex inhaled a breath. “What territory?”
“Being human, I think.”
You look at him, your gaze traced the soft creases of his eyes, lined by pretty lashes, the way you did the first time, when you smiled and asked if he’d had a long night.
It feels like an affliction when you say it like that, as if it was something you suffer through rather than what you are. Dex has spent his whole life watching everyone from the outside, studying their emotions, their desperate need to matter. He understood them and yet, he had never once felt like one of them.
Dex wants to tell you that he knows what that feels like, he’s been carrying the same weight, this alienation. Because most mornings, he opens his eyes and waits for the emptiness to fill him, and sometimes it doesn’t, sometimes it does, and either way, he gets out of bed and loads his weapon and pretends to be a person. You’re pretending too. He can see it—the effort behind your smile, the emptiness behind your eyes. You’re pretending you’re not falling apart, and Dex is pretending to be human, neither of you is fooling anyone.
Except maybe each other.
He stands there with his hands at his sides and his heart beating too fast, mind racing through all the things Dex wants to say but can’t. He wonders if you know how much you sound like him.
I don’t know how to be human, he wants to say. But I do want to know how to be yours.
“He asked you out? This Tony guy?” Lane says, eyeing Dex from where he’s sitting—hunched over, holding a book you seemed to recognize, in the corner, his coffee cup half empty, pretending not to watch, then Lane gazes back to you. “And you said yes—are you fucking insane?”
“What’s wrong with him? He’s actually nice,” you argue, shaking your head.
Lane’s eyebrows shoot up toward his hairline. “Nice? The guy doesn’t talk to anybody. He sits in the corner for hours and stares at practically nothing. I’ve literally never seen him blink.”
“Well—I mean, he talks to me, you know.”
“Yeah, because he wants to get in your pants.” Lane lowers his voice, leaning across the counter. “Come on, you’ve seen the way he looks at you. It’s not normal.”
You glance over at Dex, he was reading yet you didn't notice the way his eyes weren’t moving across the page. You’ve seen that book before. Crime and Punishment. You read it once in college, struggled through the dense paragraphs and Raskolnikov’s spiraling guilt. Then some part of you wondered if he had nightmares too. Does he also wake up in the middle of the night with his heart pounding and no one to hold onto, all alone? Perhaps he was lonely as you are—you could understand that.
“He’s just shy,” you say, turning back to Lane. “Don’t be an asshole.”
“He’s not shy. He’s fuckin weird.”
“You’re weird.”
“I’m charmingly eccentric. There’s a difference.” Lane crosses his arms, the septum catching light as he tilts his head. “Seriously. You don’t know anything about him. Where does he live? What does he do? Does he have, like, a criminal record?”
You roll your eyes. “Not everyone has a criminal record, Lane.”
“That you know of.”
“You’re being paranoid.”
“And you’re being reckless.” his voice softens along with your name, losing some of its teasing edge. “I just don’t want you to get hurt, okay? You’ve been through enough.”
Your expression contorts into something akin to annoyance, Lane has no right to stand there, acting like he’s protecting you from yourself. You told him things because you were lonely—because he was there. Sometimes you say too much when you’re not paying attention, though you wouldn’t consider him as a friend. You’re not even close. Lane is someone familiar, a familiar face in a city where every face is a stranger, and the notion of him acting like he’s more than that feels rather intruding.
“Thanks for the concern,” you flatly replied. “But I’ve got it handled, Lane. Trust me on this.”
Dex will not show his teeth too quickly, he decided. The date is three days away. Saturday. A dinner at a restaurant you were familiar with—neutral ground, you had said, because you’re cautious without realizing it, some part of you knows that strangers are dangerous even when they seem nice, and Dex appreciated that about you; the instinct, your own self-preservation. He agreed to your terms, of course.
The book in his hands was a prop, he hadn’t read a single word since Lane started running his mouth. Dex didn’t need to, he heard every single word of your conversation. He wants to get in your pants, he could almost snort at that because Lane had no god damn idea. No idea that Dex had already been in your apartment, laid in the intimate spaces of your life while you were completely unaware. Getting to fuck you was a formality at this point, a pleasant inevitability, sure, but not his main objective.
The goal was you, anyway. You wanted to believe Dex was safe, that he was worth the risk, and he was going to give you every reason to keep believing, despite not even knowing his real name.
You would, though. Eventually. When the time was right. When the mask wears off and Dex shows you who he really was—not all at once, never in a way that would terrify you, but piece by piece, until you were too invested to run, too attached to look away, fully his to even think about leaving. He knew you better than anyone ever had, he won’t fuck this up now.
Lane could stand behind the counter with his misplaced protectiveness and his complete ignorance of what Dex was capable of—and still, it wouldn’t have changed anything.
He came early.
The restaurant was small and kind of intimate, you described it as cozy when you suggested it, your voice casual but your eyes watchful, testing to see if he’d push for somewhere else. Dex didn’t, tells you it sounded perfect, and meant it. His clothes were new and he had worn them tonight, too. He’d stood in the mirror in his place for twenty minutes, staring at his own reflection, trying to remember the last time he bought clothes that weren’t for work.
Dex looks normal, he thinks. Almost human.
He’s spent the extra time studying the exits, assessing the other patrons, and positioning his chair so his back is to the wall and his eyes have a clear sightline to the door. Dex orders water—does not drink it, ice melting as he watches the condensation crawl down the glass like beads of sweat.
The menu is in his hands but he wasn’t reading it. Instead, Dex’s running through contingency plans. What if you’re late, or worse, you don’t show up at all? His hands clenches at the thought, then relaxes because you wouldn’t do that to him, would you? You already agreed, and you come home alone every night—you were his.
His doubts had been cleared when he saw you walk in.
For a moment, Dex forgets to breathe, his gaze sweeping over to trail down your body because you’re wearing a dress. Nothing fancy, it’s a simple one. But the dress had been black and it fell just above your knees, your legs are bare where he could run his fingers along your thigh and find the heat between your legs, and oh, your hair is down too.
He also noticed that you’ve done something to your eyes—darker than usual, smokier. You look like you're trying not to look like you tried, and the effort makes Dex’s mouth go dry, a growing bulge in his pants but he kept those thoughts locked away.
You spot him and smile shyly, Dex rises from his seat.
His tenderness toward you had the polished quality of a practiced performance. Dex pulled out your chair, waited until you’d taken your first bite before he touched his own. He asked if you were warm enough, or if you wanted another drink, asked simple questions if the commute here had been okay.
Each small courtesy landed, and you found yourself relaxing despite your better judgment.
The wine you were drinking helped, though every so often, you’d catch him looking at you with an expression that didn’t match the gentleness of his voice—intense hunger lingered in his eyes. Made your stomach flip. It would vanish as soon as you noticed, replaced by that boyish smile Dex has. You told yourself you imagined it, you were pretty sure you didn’t.
Still, talking to Dex had been easy, you braced yourself for awkward pauses, for the strange tension of sitting across from a stranger whom you knew his coffee order but not his life. The inevitable moment when conversations would curdle into silence and you’d both stare at your plates like they held the answers to questions neither of you knew how to ask.
None of that happened.
Instead, Dex asked questions that made you feel seen without feeling exposed, and you answered without meaning to, the words falling out of your lips, tumbling into the space between you. And he simply listened, with his eyes never leaving your face. It should have felt invasive, and yet it felt like being wrapped around in warmth.
“I feel stuck,” swirling your wine glass, elbow on the surface of the table, yet your gaze drifted away on to the strangers around you. “My life feels muffled... static? Somehow, I’m continually surprised when faced with this proof that the world is indeed moving—that it’s barreling forward… possibly without me.”
Dex set down his fork, the metal clicking softly against the plate. “Hm. Maybe you’re not stuck,” he finally offered, uttering your name. “Maybe you’re just waiting. For somethi—someone.” His eyes held yours. “The world doesn’t get to decide if you’re in it or not. You do.”
He doesn’t feel stuck when he’s with you, that’s for certain. Dex has to remind himself to keep his hands flat on the table because what he wants is to hover his hand above yours, and simply caress your softest skin, thumb rubbing in a circular motion, almost soothing.
He wants to build you a cage, a beautiful one.
A place where nothing could ever reach you, not the crushing weight of a world that doesn’t see you the way he sees you. Dex would line it with every book you’ve ever loved, make the cage to your liking. Then, he would sit outside it just to watch you.
Would you like that? Where he’d take your uncertainties, your doubts, everything that makes you feel less—Dex would carry them with him to his grave. You don’t have to worry about anything, because you only need him.
You laughed softly, but there was no humor in it. “I’ve been waiting my whole life for someone to show up. No one ever does,” you leaned back in your chair. A strand of hair fell across your cheek, and you didn’t bother tucking it back. “Maybe I’m just not the kind of person people show up for.”
“You have me now, I’ll take care of you.”
There was a beat of silence after Dex spoke, and in that silence, you felt the strangest urge to apologize. For what, you didn’t know. Perhaps, for making him say it? You had always thought you wanted someone to say something like that to you. To look at you with that kind of certainty and promise you that you weren’t alone, although now that it was happening—you realized you hadn’t prepared yourself for how it would feel. Heavy on the chest.
His words terrified you in a way. This man was practically still a stranger to you.
You shook the thought away almost as soon as it came, scolding yourself for being dramatic. Tony was just being nice, saying what people said, and yet you could feel the coldness of your hands, wine glass slippery against your palm. When you glanced up at him through your lashes, he was still watching you, as though you were the only one worth waiting for.
So why did it feel like standing on the edge of a cliff you couldn’t see the bottom of? You tucked your hair behind your ear and looked away anxiously, you didn’t say anything after that.
Dex must have sensed your discomfort, because when he spoke again, it was to change the topic to somewhat more lighthearted. You felt grateful for that.
“Can I drive you home?”
The question hangs in the air between you, soft as smoke. Dex’s voice seemed careful but there’s something underneath it, a current he can’t quite hide. His keys are already in his hand, held loose between his fingers, and he watches your face trying to decipher every micro-expression, your flicker of hesitation.
Say yes, Dex craves in his mind. Say yes, please.
Your gaze finds him, your head a little tipsy from the bottles of wine you’ve managed to consume in one night. Your eyes were glassy, cheeks flushed, and demeanor almost careless. The streetlight catches your face, painting you in a beautiful light, and you’re smiling—a real one, soft and warm and slightly lopsided from the wine.
And Dex thinks he would kill someone for you right now if you asked. Anyone. Anywhere.
“I’d like that, thank you.”
Good, Dex thinks as he opens the passenger door for you. This is good. You’re doing everything right.
He walks around to the driver’s side, his heart beating frantically. Dex steals a glance at you—buckling your seatbelt, fitting into his space like you’d always been there, he allows himself a small grin. A surge of pride blooms in his chest, it was the pride of a man who has devoted months to learning you, watching you, edging into your periphery until you forgot he was ever an outsider.
The city slides past the windows in streaks of neon and darker hues. Dex keeps his eyes on the road, but his attention never leaves you; the sound of your breathing, your head resting toward the window, soft sighs you make when he takes a corner too slowly and you sway slightly in your seat.
Dex’s right hand comes to rest on your thigh, a bold move, yet you don’t pull away from him. A smile crosses his face.
When you reach your building, Dex parks the car and kills the engine. The street is quiet this late, the only sounds a distant siren and the click of his turn signal as he switches it off. You step out onto the curb, and he gets out right after, leaving the silence between you to expand on its own.
You stop at the front door. Your keys are already in your hand, fidgeting with them—twisting the metal between your fingers, the nervous energy rolling off you in unconscious movements. You keep glancing at him and then away, like you’re trying to gather courage for something. It was adorable, Dex thinks as he watches you.
“This was nice,” you finally break the silence, and the softness of your voice doesn’t go unnoticed. “I had a nice time with you.”
“I did too. You are beautiful.”
He doesn’t trust himself to say more, not when you’re standing this close, and the wine has loosened something in you that Dex wants to keep loose, with his instinct screaming at him to close the distance between you and never let it open again.
Your gaze lifts to meet his, and then realize the proximity. How the darkness and the quiet and the wine have conspired to draw you together like magnets, pulling. Your face is close now—closer than Dex allowed himself to imagine during those long nights in his apartment, watching you through his screen, with his right hand wrapped around his cock, memorizing every inch and curve of your body.
He can also see everything from here; fine lines at the corners of your eyes, your pupils have dilated, swallowing the color of your irises. The way your lips are slightly parted, contemplating whether you’re going to speak—or you’re waiting for something.
“Tony,” you whispered, and he almost corrected you. Almost tells you his real name because he’ll do anything to hear the name Dex fall on your lips.
“Yeah?” his voice comes out rough.
You don’t answer with words. Instead, you lift yourself onto your tiptoes and lean in, reaching for his mouth.
Your lips press against his, and Dex goes very still, his hands frozen at his sides because he doesn’t know what to do with them. He hasn’t been kissed in years. Hasn’t let anyone close enough to try but your mouth felt warm and sticky from the wine, your scent filling his nose.
He doesn’t want to scare you, so his hand rises slowly, carefully and settles on your waist instead, fingers curling against the fabric of your dress. You make a small sound against his mouth, surprised and pleased, and Dex takes it as an opportunity to finally move his lips along with yours.
It’s gentle. Dex makes it gentle. But beneath the gentleness is something hungry, desperate, an urge that wants to pull you closer and press you against his firm chest, taste every inch of your mouth until he’s satisfied from it. He doesn’t do any of that. Dex keeps his hand on your waist, his lips soft and his breathing steady, he lets you set the pace.
His tongue swept past your lips, tasting the faint salt on your skin. One of his large hands came up to cup your jaw, thumb brushing along your cheekbone with a reverence that made your thighs squeezed together. The other hand pressed flat against the small of your back, pulling you just a fraction closer.
The kiss deepened in waves. Every time you thought you’d caught your rhythm, Dex shifted—tilting his head the other way, angling deeper, his tongue finding new ways to explore the inside of your mouth. His tongue moved against yours in slow strokes, coaxing rather than claiming. You could feel the slight tremble in his fingers where they held your face, his breathing had gone shallow and ragged.
This was the part Dex couldn’t have planned for; the actual taste of you, the way you whimpered into his mouth, the small sound you made when his teeth grazed your lower lip, nibbling them.
When you finally broke apart, his forehead rested against yours. Dex’s eyes were still closed. Your lips were parted, glossy and swollen. And for a long moment, neither of you knew what to say, it seemed, but he was holding you close to him that you felt utterly comfortable in his muscular arms. You could feel the heat radiating off from his body alone.
“Goodnight, Tony,” you breathe, gaze averted away to try to hide your already apparent blush.
Nothing feels like always right now. Living on the honey of hope.
Your back hits the door as it swings shut, and you stand there for a moment, pressed against the door, your fingers tracing your lower lip, reminiscing; the ghost of his mouth. It keeps replaying inside your head.
You slide down the door until you’re sitting on the floor, black dress pooling around your thighs, and a laugh escapes your lips. You press the heels of your palms against your eyes and smile so hard your cheeks ache. You feel like a fucking teenager. Sort of like every movie you have ever watched and rolled your eyes at, the cliché you’ve dismissed as overwrought or simply not meant for someone like you.
Finally pushing yourself off the floor after a few moments, yet still smiling, floating somewhere above your own body. You kick off your heels and leave them by the door, then wander to the bathroom. You saw a glimpse of your reflection in the mirror, you look ridiculous, but you’ve never looked blissful in years.
Happy. When was the last time you applied it to yourself without irony? You can’t recall. So much of you has been surviving for so long that you forgot people did more than that. They went on dates, held hands, and kissed while the city slept around them. They felt giddy, hopeful.
You deserve it, don’t you? Yes. This is somewhere to be, for this is all you have, but it’s something. Streets and sodium lights. The sky, the world. You’re still alive, still capable of loving. You’re still human, after all. Tony made you feel one tonight.
You can forget that the world will turn away from you someday, and leave you behind. For now, you’ll settle with this small dream filled exuberance. You cannot wait to prove Lane wrong, you thought as you washed your face, then brushed your teeth, pulled on an oversized shirt that used to belong to someone you don’t talk to anymore.
Your limbs feel heavy and light at the same time, weighted down by wine and lifted by something sweeter. You fall into bed, pulling the blankets up to your chin. Has this always been so cold? It didn’t matter, you couldn’t stop smiling.
Your phone buzzes on the nightstand.
You ignore it at first. It’s late, you’re still reeling, and you don’t want to come back down. But it buzzes again. And again. Three messages in quick succession, then a fourth. A sigh elicits from your lips, hands reaching for the phone, the screen lighting up your face in the dark.
Aa Lane (12:01 AM): hey i know it’s late but i was scrolling through some old news articles and i swear i’ve seen your coffee guy before
Aa Lane (12:01 AM): like not in person but somewhere.
Aa Lane (12:02 AM): tony right?? that’s what the fucker told you??
Aa Lane (12:02 AM): look at this and tell me i’m the one being paranoid
Something in your guts tells you to not click the link Lane sent you. It’s the same feeling you used to get as a child walking past a dark room—the instinct that something was waiting for you in the shadows, something that would change you if you looked at it too long. Don’t, don’t, don’t.
But you do. You click the link.
The article loads slowly, cluttered with ads and pop-ups and slow spinning wheels. Yet the headline loads first, bold and black, and your eyes catch on the words before your brain can catch up.
BENJAMIN POINDEXTER SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR MURDER OF PROMINENT ATTORNEY FOGGY NELSON
Oh, fuck.
You scroll down before you can stop yourself, and there it is—a photo. It was a mugshot. His face—Tony’s face. Same sharp jaw, same piercing eyes, same mouth that had been pressed against yours not too long ago. But different, too. Colder. Much emptier. The eyes in the photo don’t look like they’ve ever held anyone gently. You read the words again, former FBI agent, sentenced to life, murder, escaped custody, and they don’t feel real. None of this feels real at all.
Do not approach. Do not engage. If seen, contact authorities immediately.
You could feel the way your hands started shaking, then comes your whole body; rigid and blood runs cold. You’re frozen and on fire simultaneously. Your hands drop the phone, and it lands on your chest, the screen still glowing, his face still staring up at you with those eyes. Then, a notification popped up once more on your screen.
Aa Lane (12:10 AM): fuck, i hope you’re safe and home. call me pls
You stare at Lane’s message, the words blur and sharpen as if your eyes can’t decide what to focus on. And yet, the numbness spreads. Starts in your fingers, those tingling extremities that had been warm against his skin just an hour ago. Then, it travels up your arms, settles in your shoulders, crawls across your chest, your heart is still beating—you can feel it, distant.
You think the panic has receded, that the fear has gone quiet. Suddenly, your stomach lurches.
It comes out of nowhere; a violent, involuntary spasm that doubles you over on the bed. You press your hand hard over your mouth, and for a terrible moment you think you’re going to throw up. Swallowing hard, once, twice, as your throat works against the rising tide, and eventually, the nausea subsides, residing somewhere low in your belly.
But the sickness doesn’t go away, simply moves. Finding its way into your veins, your bones, you feel poisoned, like an insect has crawled inside you and died. Truly rotten.
Another message.
Aa Lane (12:21 AM): please answer me i’m getting really fucking worried
Your vision becomes blurry—tears, you realize, when did you start crying? Forcing yourself to type back, one word, because it’s all you can manage.
You (12:22 AM): Here.
The response comes almost instantly.
Aa Lane (12:22 AM): i’m coming over, wait for me
Tony isn’t real, it was a mantra that repeats inside your head as you wait for Lane. There is no Tony. There’s only ever Benjamin Poindexter—convicted murderer, a man who has killed and will kill again. And somehow, absurdly, you find yourself on the verge of laughter. Because this is your life, isn’t it? This is what you get for daring to hope.
Tonight, you let yourself believe that perhaps, the universe had something good in store for you, and instead, what you were getting was the universe reminding you, yet again, that you don’t get to have nice things—you never did and you never will. The world has a sick sense of humor, you’d almost admire it, if only you weren’t busy falling apart.
Little serpentine slithers its way into your thoughts, mind boggling, what you had never realized earlier, you do now. Fully sobered up.
You never told Tony where you lived.
He drove you home tonight but he’d known where to go. Never asked for directions, nor plugged anything into his phone either. Not a moment of uncertainty, he’d just driven. Like he had done it before—as if he’d been here before.
Stupid girl, where is your mind now?
Dex watched it happen in real time.
He saw the way your smile falters, then fades. Watched your hand over your mouth, repulsed by him, swallowed something rotten and now was crawling back up your throat. He knew that look. He had put that look on a hundred faces before yours. But never yours—never yours.
Dex was so careful, so patient with you. He had done everything right, he thinks. He had to have known, on some level, that you couldn’t stay ignorant forever, and still, he let himself believe otherwise. A mere fantasy, was it ever was. Dex wanted it so badly that he convinced himself it could be real.
That somehow your parallel paths converge, and found himself in the arms of your warmth. This emptiness, this nothing inside him consumes the entirety of you, and the promise of normalcy. He wanted to think he would be sated for a lifetime with you, and in all the deaths that exist after. Dex could only blame himself for thinking he could ever be anything else.
And now you know.
His skin starts to burn, an itch to his soul. Dex stands over the body, his chest rising and falling in measured breaths. The alley is darker than the place where Lane’s car still idles, engine humming, door hanging open like a wound.
There’s this satisfied curl of Dex’s lips beneath the mask, seeing Lane on his knees.
The boy didn’t beg, Dex will give him that much. Didn’t plead for a life he clearly valued, despite all evidence to the contrary. He just looked up at Dex with those wide, stupid eyes.
“I fucking knew it, you piece of shit!”
The first impact doesn’t satisfy Dex, so he does it again—pulls Lane’s head back and slams it forward, a second crack, this one weaker than the first. Lane’s eyes seemed unfocused now, with his body limp in Dex’s grip. But he doesn’t stop, can’t help himself. He holds Lane against the wall, feeling the boy’s pulse flutter beneath his fingers, and leans in close.
“You had to run your god damn mouth, didn’t you?” his voice barely a whisper, seething. Meant only for Lane, to be the last thing he hears before life fades from his eyes. “You had to take her away from me, make her afraid. You just couldn’t help yourself to be the savior, hm?” Dex pauses. “She’s not gonna fuck you, Lane—she wants me. And I’m going to take something from you, too.”
“She should be terrified of you,” Lane had spat back, words almost slurred, blood already dripping from his split lip. “You’re a fucking killer.”
“Yes,” Dex’s toothy grin shows. “I am. I’ll show you.”
He had half a mind to leave Lane bleeding out here.
The boy was done for anyway; cracked skull, blood seeping from his hairline, eyes struggling to focus on a world that was already slipping away. He wouldn’t last an hour, maybe not even the half. He can walk away now, because all he ever wanted to do, what burned in his chest was to come over to your apartment and apologize.
Never mind the bloodied mess he made on his suit, he’d fall to his knees and make you understand. He’ll tell you everything, the truth, the ugly, this impossible truth of what you’d become to him. You had reached something inside him he thought had died years ago, scraped out, buried, and mourned by no one.
You have me, Dex would say. You have all of me. The good parts, the bad parts, the parts that have done terrible things. They’re yours. They’ve been yours since the first time you met me. Dex needed to believe he could make you understand, because the alternative was unbearable. It would crack him open, spill whatever was left of his humanity onto the floor, and there would be no putting it back together.
Deciding he’s running out of time before you could be out of his reach, Dex turned away from Lane’s crumpled body, already calculating the fastest route to your building, and then this fucker just had to speak once more.
“She’ll know.”
He halted in his steps. Listening.
“She’ll know,” Lane repeated, stronger now, forced through lips that were swelling. “She’ll hate you for the rest of her fucking life, for what you did to me—for what you are. That’s the best damn thing I’ll ever do,” Lane laughed. It was a terrible sound, wet and gurgling, half-choked on his own blood. “Make sure she knows exactly what you are. A monster. A fucking monster in a mask who thought he could pretend to be normal. Creepy fuckin asshole.”
The rage that flooded through Dex was cold, then his hand moved before he consciously decided. With the knife in his palm, flying through the air, spinning end over end, simply knowing where it would land—his blade buried itself in Lane’s throat.
Lane’s eyes went wide, his hands flew to his throat, grasping at the hilt, to the blood that was already pouring between his fingers. He let out an inhumane sound, gasping for air, clawing his way to escape death. That’s what Dex loves about this, when severe pain has caused men to lose their air of arrogance, and only then, realizing that life was already out of their grasp.
Dex walked toward him slowly, then crouched down in front of Lane, bringing his masked face level with the boy’s. Real fear painted across irises, and Dex reveled in this moment of clarity between them.
“Shh, it’s easier if you don’t fight it.” Dex mocks him, pressing a gloved finger to his own lips, though Lane couldn’t see beneath the mask. Lane’s eyes were wet with tears or blood—Dex couldn’t tell, didn’t care. He then gripped his chin, forcing Lane to look up. “I’ll make sure she won’t ever think about you again. You hear me? I’ll make sure of it. You’re nothing, Lane.”
Dex watched until the boy’s eyes went still, his hands fell away from his throat, body slumped sideways, collapsing onto the wet pavement, the knife still buried in his throat. Then Dex stood up, wiping his gloves on his thighs like he had touched something dirty, removed the mask to give himself a moment to breathe.
“Good bye, white knight.”
He had to come find you now. Dex would make sure you didn’t wait long.
You had a knife in your hand, it seemed.
It’s not a good knife, not like his. This is a kitchen knife, the kind that comes in a set, and the blade is short, its handle plastic, and your grip is wrong—too tight, your thumb wrapped over the top instead of resting along the side. You could hurt yourself, Dex worries. You’re going to cut your palm open if you decide to finally swing at him.
Dex stands in the shadows of your living room, watching you through the archway that separates your kitchen from the rest of your life. You haven’t seen him yet, because your back is half turned, shoulders hunched, your breath coming in short, uneven gasps that he can hear from here. You were shaking, he could see it from his standpoint.
You turn suddenly, and you see him.
The knife comes up—not toward him, not exactly, just up between you, a semblance of barrier made of cheap steel and trembling fingers. His suit is still on, never bothered to change, didn’t see the point of it if you know who he is now. But Dex had taken off the mask, as he wants you to see his face.
“Don’t,” your voice cracks on the word, the knife wobbles in your grip. “Don’t come any fucking closer.”
Dex slowly raises his both hands, making himself appear harmless. “I’m not going to hurt you.”
An incredulous laugh escapes your throat. “Won’t hurt me? Right, because you’re not a killer—fucking right. Just how stupid do you think I am to believe you?”
It pains him to see you this way, so broken yet admirably brave. Your expression is the most beautiful thing Dex has ever seen, and he would let you use that knife. He would stand still and let you sink it into his chest, if that’s what you needed—if that would make you feel safe. He’ll let you.
Look at him, if you would be so kind, and find whatever it is you’re looking for, even if it’s not what you wanted to find.
“You matter to me,” it’s the way Dex says your name with such raw, convoluted emotion. “I said I would take care of you, and I meant it. I’m not going to hurt you—I know it won’t ever be enough to believe but I won’t.”
“You’re a liar, you fucking lied to me.”
“I’m not lying—please, if you could just—”
“Everything about you is a lie,” there were tears sliding down your cheeks as you cut him off, and Dex wanted to reach out to wipe them away. “Your name. Your whole life. I don’t even know you. Tony? What the fuck? Who even are you?”
“I was a lot of things.” Dex takes a single step forward, and you stumble backward, your hip catching the kitchen counter, and your knife clatters against the marble, you snatch it up again quickly. “I'm still a lot of things. But I need you to know that I would die before I let anyone hurt you. I would kill anyone who tried—and I know that doesn’t sound like comfort. I know it sounds like the opposite of comfort, but fuck, it’s the truth.”
“Stop,” you shook your head, gaze averted away from him. “Stop talking. You’re sick in the head. You’re—”
“I’m yours,” Another step. Your back meets the refrigerator, and there’s nowhere left to go. “I have been since the first time you said my name.”
“Your fake name.”
“Dex,” he finally says, a thorn being pulled out from his chest. “You already know my name, but everyone calls me Dex.” He reaches up, slowly, giving you time to scream or stab him, yet you do none of those things. Ever so softly, his fingers brush your cheek, wiping away a tear, he felt you shiver beneath his touch. “You can call me whatever you want. Anything. I don’t care—just… don’t turn away from me, please. I need—I need you.”
“I can’t do this,” you whispered, something stirred inside your chest. “I’m not built for this, Dex. Whatever it is you’ve pictured in your head.”
“I know, sweetheart.” he coos amorously, his large hand cupping your jaw fully, thumb resting at the corner of your mouth, your breath hitches but you don’t pull away, he gently takes the knife from your hand. “I’ll make you. Going to make you understand, hm? I’m right here.”
“My legs won’t—” a sob catches in your throat. “Why can’t I run?”
Dex inhaled a sharp breath, and carefully, so tenderly, he leaned in closer to your face, your eyes fluttering closed when his forehead had rested against yours, your breath mingling with his, hot and shaking.
“I’m going to take care of you,” he murmurs against your lips. “You don’t believe me yet, I know you’re terrified. But you will. You’ll see.”
“Please,” you whisper again, though you’re not saying it to the knife anymore. You’re not quite certain who you’re saying it to. If your entire life came crashing down and the whole world descended on you, Dex would hurl himself in death’s way to save you, you’re sure of this, but why?
Why you? Though your uneasiness had been swept away when you felt Dex’s lips pressing against yours, not like the first time, no. This time it had felt desperate, almost painful, his hand sliding into your hair and tilting your head back while his mouth claimed yours. You make a sound against his lips, something needier, your hands coming up to fist in the bloodstained fabric of his suit.
You’re not pushing him away, Dex realizes. You were holding onto him. His heart is hammering so hard he’s certain you can feel it through all the layers between you.
“I’m sorry,” he says in between kisses. “I’m really sorry.”
As he pulled away, Dex shifted his weight, his massive frame looming over you, effectively pinning you between the cold metal of the refrigerator and the heat of his body. He was a wall of muscle, a shadow that had finally swallowed you whole. His other hand came up, settling heavily on your waist, his fingers splaying wide over the curve of your hip, claiming the space you occupied as if it were his birthright.
He didn’t wait for you to find your voice. Dex couldn’t. If he gave you the chance to speak, you might find the strength to push him away once again—re-establishing the boundary of your own soul, and Dex was far too desperate to let that happen.
What he did was to crash his mouth against yours again, although the dread was long gone, replaced by this starving need. It was a messy, uncoordinated collision of lips and teeth, a silent plea for you to accept the madness he offered. Dex tasted the salt of your tears and the heat of your desperation, it drove him into a fever.
“Please just let me in—let me be the only thing you feel.”
Dropping to his knees with a heavy thud, his eyes never leaving yours until the very last second when he moved to settle between your legs. He worked with such ferocity, his large hands fumbling with the hem of your clothes, his breath warm and hitching against your skin as he bared you to the dim light of the kitchen, naked from the bottom down in front of him.
How beautiful you looked, only for him. And when Dex finally pressed his face into the damp, sweet heat of your cunt, a broken sound escaped him, a pathetic whine that sounded more like a wounded animal than a man.
“I’m sorry,” he mumbled against you, his voice muffled by your skin, thick with a desperate, weeping sort of devotion. “I’m so sorry for scaring you… mm, so sorry.”
The only thing you could discern was the silhouette of Dex’s broad shoulders as his head dips between your thighs. Dex begins gently, filling his lungs with the scent of your arousal, dragging his tongue against your slick folds, making your chest heave with every whimper.
And the sweet taste of your wetness coats his tongue, pulling a low groan from his chest. Dex needed this as much as you do, he had been longing to devour your pussy, to hear your breathy cries and soft moans while his tongue delved into your pulsing heat, your shivering body held steady under his selfish touch.
“Dex, please…” you whine and beg but don’t know what for, attempting to squeeze your thighs together but his hands had been a lot stronger gripping them, certain he’d leave bruises along. “Fuck…”
When Dex hears your voice break like that, it unlocks something feral within him—to eat you in his earnestness. He switches between flicking your swollen clit with his tongue, then dragging the broad flat of his tongue through your folds. His grip is unyielding, keeping you exactly where he wants you as he fastens his mouth to your pussy and begins to suck the inner lips. Your desperate, high pitched moans bounce off the kitchen walls, and to Dex, they’re pure music.
There’s something holy in the softness of his mouth, driving you into an immaculate euphoria with each unhurried stroke of his tongue. Dex drinks you in, pushing his tongue inside you as his arms lock around your thighs, tugging you nearer so he can taste deeper—consuming you from the inside.
“That’s it, my sweet girl,” he rasped, pulling out his tongue with your name woven into his breath. “Let me make you feel good. So perfect for me.”
Dex’s nose nudges your clit, and you roll your hips against his face, smearing your wetness across his lips. He hums in approval, the vibration running straight through your core.
A sudden flare of heat surges through you, your legs wobbling as your pussy clenches around his tongue and releases, pleasure like white fire racing through your veins. Knees nearly give out. Dex’s tongue gathers the aftermath of your climax, lapping it up to savor the essence of you. It tasted sweet. When your body finally drifts into that state of trance post orgasm, Dex doesn’t move his mouth away—he just keeps going, gliding from your entrance up to circle your clit, over and over in a soothing, endless rhythm.
You couldn’t remember how long he had been down there, simply tasting your cunt. It must have gone on for hours, yet it didn’t matter. Poor you, so overwhelmed with the sensation Dex had been giving to you, you must have forgotten all the worse things he’d done, and what he will continue to do with the way you kept chanting his name like a prayer.
Shame bubbles up inside you, suffocating, and unable to contain the amount of pleasure overstimulating you. The things you let Dex do to you—what you won’t admit. What does it say about you, that the fear and the pleasure have somehow entwined together into something you can’t unravel? Maybe you’d scrub your cunt raw afterwards, tremble at what you couldn’t prevent, wondering how you became someone who could be complicit in one’s own destruction.
But Dex has his purpose now. You.
With him, he made you his salvation, cleansing him from all his unrighteousness. Dex was your man, the worst man to ever exist. He’ll apologize if he finds paradise in indulging himself within you, a selfish consumption of the one thing Dex holds dear. His hands are scarred from killing, and yet you would trust him completely because you will only ever need him.

The chain from the handcuffs rattles against the headboard, jerking forwards with each movement of your bodies. His forearms strain above his head, fingers flexing - reaching for something to grab onto.
"You're such a good boy -" You lean downwards, a hand running through his wet hair, soaked with sweat. His cock twitches inside you when he hears your words. He leans into your touch, eyebrows furrowing as he nuzzles your palm. "Making me feel so good,"
The backs of your thighs ache, loins burning from riding him for god knows how long. Sweat pools against every inch of your bodies. His eyes are watery and glazed over, as if he might begin to cry at any moment.
"Fuck -" he gasps out, "just use me all you want, baby." His hips stutter beneath you, grinding up to meet you in the middle, his cock hitting that place deep inside you over and over again.
His pelvis rubs deliciously against your clit, your wetness has already coated the entire area of skin. Each thrust gets noisier and noiser, filling the room. His arms strain again, his biceps flexing whilst he tries not to move. Always trying to be a good boy for you.
"I wanna cum - fuck I'm gonna cum inside - fuck - wanna fill you up -"
His words head straight down to your core, your pussy tightens around his cock, getting impossibly wetter. "Say the magic words, Dex."

He’d spent the first two hours of it pressed against you like a second skin, his body a cage of warmth and muscle. His arms crushed you to him, one hand splayed possessively over your stomach, the other tangled in your hair, his chest a furnace against your back, his thighs wedged between yours like he was afraid you’d slip away.
Every time you shifted—even the tiniest twitch—he’d whine, his grip tightening like a vice, his breath hitching against your nape as if the mere thought of space between you was unbearable. Like a kitten, he’d clung to you, needy and desperate, his claws digging in just enough to remind you: you weren’t going anywhere.
And you weren't for the next few hours.
Not when he finally woke you with his mouth on your throat, his hips already rolling against you, his cock a relentless brand against your ass. Not when his teeth grazed your earlobe and a broken, needy sound tore from his chest—“Please, baby… let me love you again.” His sideburns, salted with grey, scraped against your skin as he nuzzled you, his voice rough with want. “I won’t make it last long and I’ll make breakfast after. Or—” His hips jerked forward, the wet tip of his cock dragging against your thigh, leaving a sticky trail of precum in its wake. “Or I’ll give you a massage before work. Just—just let me have you one more time.”
You tried to squirm free. “Dex…” His name was a plea, a protest, but his arms only locked around you tighter. "I'm still a bit sore..."
“Aw did I stretch you too thin, sweetheart?” His voice was a dark chuckle against your skin, his fingers digging into your hips like he was trying to brand you from the inside out. The thought of him fucking you raw—of filling you so full your thighs would be slick with his cum all damn day, marking you in the most primal way—had his cock twitching violently. Dex was addicted. And he knew with a sickening certainty that it was going to ruin you both.
“Just—fuck—let me wreck you one more time,” he groaned, already lifting your leg, angling you just right. His cock, thick and heavy with need, pressed against your entrance, the head nudging past your folds before you could even gasp. “Don’t you want me inside you, baby?”
A broken moan tore from your throat as he stretched you without warning, forcing you to take him in one half-way thrust. Your body resisted—Oh, he was too much—but the pain twisted into something else, something filthy, and you whined, your nails digging into the sheets as he slowly pressed forth before bottoming out inside you.
Dex’s eyes rolled back. "That’s it. That’s my good girl." His voice was a rasp, his hips already rolling, testing, claiming. “Don't I make you feel good?”
His hands were everywhere—one wrapped around your throat, keeping you pinned, the other gripping your thigh like a vice as he started to fuck you in earnest. You’d never known anyone like him. Hungry. Obsessed. And when you cried out, when you begged him to stop because it was too much—when the tears started to fall, silent and helpless, because he’d hit some deep, primal spot inside you that made you feel owned—he knew.
You’d never been fucked like this before.
Not like this.
Not like him.
His insecurity from yesterday—the fear that you’d think him mediocre, that you’d pull away in disappointment—had been for nothing. Because when you sobbed his name, when your body clenched around him like you were trying to milk him dry, when you came apart so completely you were nothing but trembling, trembling pleasure—he knew.
You were made for this.
Made for him.
Your body was the perfect fit—small enough to take him deep, tight enough to make him lose his mind. This was destiny. Fate. You were built for eachother plain and simple—that was the only answer. Why else was your skin the perfect shade for him, your hair the perfect smell and texture and colour and your pussy the perfect mold for his cock?
Of course Dex was a... well, a bit big— but you'd get used to it, in time? Otherwise he'd just have to teach you to take him well. To take him right.
To take him like the good girl he knew you were.
The room was thick with the sound of wet flesh slapping, your desperate whimpers, the obscene squelch of him pulling out just to slam back in.
Dex buried his face in your hair, his breath hot and ragged against your scalp, his teeth grazing your neck as he fucked you from behind with a relentless, punishing rhythm. Strings of precum trailed from his cock every time he pulled back, glistening in the dim light before he drove into you again. “Does it still hurt, baby?” His voice was wrecked, his hips stuttering as if he couldn’t decide whether to fuck you slower or harder. “I’m so sorry—fuck—I just—need you so much—”
His fingers tightened around your throat, not enough to choke, just enough to make your vision blur as he pistoned into you, his cock swelling inside you with every thrust.
“You’re gonna make me come so fast—” His voice broke, his rhythm faltering as your walls clamped down around him, your orgasm tearing through you in silent, shuddering waves. “Fuck—fuck—I—I can’t—”
“You feel amazing...” you gasped, your voice breaking. “Dex I love you—I'm all yours.”
Mine?
His thoughts turned dark, possessive, obsessive.
Mine.
His hips rolled forward, just a little, just enough to make you gasp as he sank impossibly deep. His cock twitched and his stomach twisted with the need to own every inch of you. To keep you.
I want to fill you up with my DNA.
The thought was a heavy, possessive ache in his chest, his fingers splaying over your hips like he could already feel you changing—like he could already feel his seed taking root inside you, binding you to him in the most primal way possible. He wanted to see his mark inside you. Wanted to know that no matter where you went, no matter who you talked to, part of him would always be a part of you. The thought sent a shiver down his spine, his cock pulsing inside you as he imagined it—imagined giving you what he wanted. Imagined keeping you pregnant, keeping you his, until there was no part of you left that wasn’t tangled up in him.
No more rules. No more anyone but us.
Dex wanted to keep you locked away with him. Somewhere quiet. Somewhere no one could touch you. Somewhere he could fuck you raw every day, fill you up with his cum, and watch as his DNA took hold inside you—as you'd become with child—his child — making you his in a way no one could ever undo. And he'd make it all worth it. He'd do anything for you, make up for what he'd taken away— your social life, your family, oh it would all be okay because he would be your social life and he would be your family and he would give you a family.
Just you. Just me. Just a life where you’re mine and I’m yours and no one can ever take that away.
His grip on your throat tightened just a little, not enough to hurt, just enough to remind himself who you belonged to. His hips rolled, fast but deliberate, his cock dragging against that sensitive spot inside you that made your breath hitch— and when you moaned and said a bunch of sweet nothings he became undone.
"Fuck, fuck, fuck! I—you're gonna make me fill you up so fast..." He cried out, losing rhythm and grip around your throat making your vision double and head go numb. "You're mine—! fuck, fucking mine, mine, mine... mmm... mine..."
His orgasm tore through him like a storm, his body shuddering against yours as he emptied himself inside you, his cum flooding you in thick, hot pulses. His breath was a ragged mess against your skin, his voice a broken whisper as he collapsed over you, his cock still twitching, still inside you, like he couldn’t bear to let go.
You kissed, caressed and giggled, holding him until his orgasm blew over.
...
Dex had insisted breakfast shouldn't be spent across eachother at the table.
You sat on his lap, turning your fork with fluffy american pancakes behind you so that he could grab it off with his mouth. His hands would pat your thigh praisingly everytime you'd take a bite yourself.
"So Dex..." you began, stabbing the pancake onto the fork before twisting to give him a bite. "Do you... want to come over after work again? I'd really like to make you dinner tonight." You paused, eyes fixated on the plate in thought. "Or you can pick me up after work so we can do the groceries together? And uh, so we can see eachother sooner."
Dex smiled, eyes full of adoration. He couldn't believe it. This was all so perfect. For the first time in his life, Dex didn't feel like that orphaned boy. The one who didn't belong anywhere, the one who had a house but never a home to go to.
"I'd love to."
-------
5 hours later, 12PM.
Dex sat in the lunchroom, swirling the rim of his white coffee mug against his lower lip, a smug, filthy grin curling his mouth.
A familiar man rounded the corner, a box of donuts in one hand, keys jingling in the other.
"Want one?"
"No I'm good on this, thanks Ray."
Agent Ray Nadeem shrugged and stuffed a pink donut with frosting into his mouth, unlocking his bag and putting his laptop on the table. He chewed roughly, the amount of donut too much to eat in one go. An inquisitive hum came from the dark haired agent, and he turned his laptop around to show footage of the ongoing case to Dex.
The bulletin thing. Again.
The blonde agent didn't enjoy watching the footage of himself in the red daredevil suit walking up to Karen Page and having to put up some front about how it was "nice to see her again." He'd seen the footage twenty-times already, and the more the bureau would replay it, the higher the chance of someone successfully lining up the similarity in the voices of this mystery masked man and the FBI agent.
"Real tragedy." Dex puffed, setting down his mug of coffee. "Can't believe we still haven't caught this smug bastard."
"Yeah. It's just... isn't it weird that the journalist, uh what's her name—Karen Page was so afraid of daredevil? I mean they're supposed to be accomplices, friends even. Why would you shudder in fear at someone you're so well acquainted with? Just don't make any sense..."
"—Well maybe it's because daredevil killed ten people right outside her office, Ray. Let's say it happens to you. Someone from the bureau stops by your office—shoots your family and then comes over to say hi." Dex took a breath. This case had been hanging over his head like a cloud and threatening his position at work. He should've never accepted Fisk's order. "—would you not have the same response as she did in the footage?"
Ray nodded and drew his lips in out of frustration. "Yeah 'suppose you're right." He closed the laptop and looked his coworker in the eye. "Tell me what you woulda done though."
Silence.
Dex took another sip of his coffee, smiling innocently before answering.
"Isn't it obvious?"
--------------
Two weeks had passed, and life was better than Dex ever thought possible.
Every evening after work, he’d climb into his car, the scent of you still lingering in the air, and drive to your office. The second you slid into the passenger seat, your hand would find his thigh—warm, loving, grounding. You’d caress him as he drove, your fingers tracing idle patterns over the denim, and Dex would feel something in his chest shift, like the pieces of him were finally clicking into place.
Soft jazzy blues would drift from the speakers—Marvin Gaye, Sade, Bobby Caldwell. Dex still couldn’t believe it: he’d started to like music. Before you, it was just noise. Instruments being strummed or “ploinked,” people singing about things he couldn’t relate to. But now? Now he felt it. The ache in a singer’s voice when they crooned about love slipping away, about being too late, about never being together again. Dex would clench his jaw, his eyebrows drawing together, because the thought of that ever happening between you two was unfathomable. If he couldn’t fix it, he decided, he’d bleed into the next life trying.
Dinner dates became a ritual. Movie nights at the cinema, where you’d talk to him—really talk—and ask him to share things too. It made him feel wanted in a way he hadn’t known before. Known. He memorized what you ordered, tucking the details away like treasures, already planning to recreate your favorite meals at home. In the dark of the theater, he’d turn his head just enough to watch you—the way your lips parted at a particularly emotional scene, the way your eyes widened at a twist, the way you’d bite your lip when something unsettled you. He wanted to learn your morality, your limits, how far you’d let a character’s means justify their ends. On the drive home, you’d dissect the movie together. Dex would start with a safe opinion, but you’d always push him: “Be honest.” And so he’d peel back another layer, revealing more of himself with each word. Sometimes, your reactions shocked him—your willingness to understand, even when his thoughts veered into darker territory. But you tried. You always tried. And that shocked him more than anything.
At home, you’d make dessert for him—chocolate ice cream with banana slices, his favorite. He’d sprawl on the couch, legs widening just enough to let you slip between them, your head resting on his stomach. Kitchen Nightmares would play in the background because Dex insisted. He liked the show. It was where it all began—the first time you’d willingly invited him into your personal space, the first time he’d eaten dinner on a sleazy couch instead of the wooden chair at his sterile kitchen table. He’d laugh a little harder at the employees’ misery, the dramatic camera angles and horrifying violin screeches making it all the funnier. You’d laugh with him, and the sound would make him hold you tighter, like he was trying to memorize the way you fit against him.
Later, in bed, he’d slide beneath the sheets, his hands parting your thighs with his head before he set to work—licking, sucking, swallowing, groaning against you as he ground into the mattress. Hours could pass like that, your slickness dripping down his throat, his hips rolling in time with his movements. When he finally fucked you, it was with a desperation that bordered on worship. He twisted you into positions that hit just right, his hands gripping your hips, your thighs, your waist—anything to make you cum. Five times a night wasn’t enough. By the third orgasm, you’d be a trembling, whimpering mess, your fingers tangled in his ash-blond hair as his hips kept rolling, his thumb circling, relentless. “I’ll clean it all up for you tomorrow, honey,” he’d murmur, his voice rough. “I’ll stay home, okay? Fuck—you can’t even speak anymore, can you?”
In the mornings, you’d wake to the sound of the vacuum in the living room, the washing machine and dryer tumbling, the dishwasher humming. Dex took care of everything. His OCD demanded order, and so your home was always immaculate before you even opened your eyes—empty laundry pile, spotless floors, military-folded clothes sorted by color and season, a neatly stacked makeup table, a bathroom so clean it gleamed. He told you there would be new toothbrushes every three weeks and that he'd replace your mascara every month. Five of each shampoo, conditioner, scrub, and toothpaste lined up beneath the cabinet, ready for use. The list went on.
You’d drag yourself out of bed, hair a mess, clothes rumpled, and Dex would immediately turn off the vacuum, nearly tripping over the cord in his haste to pull you into his arms. “Hey, honey.” He’d breathe you in, his grip tight, like he was afraid you’d slip away. “I tried making dinner for you, but I just… kept messing up the eggs. Don’t look in the bin, okay?”
You’d shake your head and laugh, turning in a slow circle to take in the pristine house. No matter how many times he’d done it—no matter how many mornings you’d woken up to this—it still amazed you. The way he cared so much. The way he remembered everything. You’d thank him, pressing kisses to his face and neck until he turned red, before reminding him that you loved cooking for him anyway. Breakfast was something you wanted to do for him before work.
And so you’d eat on the balcony together, sipping tea or coffee, blowing on the steam before taking a bite. The crisp morning air would wake you up, the quiet between you comfortable, easy.
He’d drive you to work, of course. There was no arguing with him about it.
----------------
After work, 6PM.
Rain had settled over the city hours ago. It drummed across the roof of Dex's car in an uneven rhythm, tapping the metal above his head like nervous fingers against a tabletop. Every so often a heavier drop splattered against the windshield before being swept aside by the lazy arc of the wipers.
Left. Right.
Left. Right.
The parking spaces lining the street had become little mirrors, reflecting red brake lights and glowing storefront signs. Umbrellas bloomed and disappeared along the pavement—black, navy, the occasional bright yellow—tilting against the wind as office workers hurried toward buses, train stations, or the promise of dry apartments. Shoes slapped against wet concrete. Someone laughed across the street before disappearing beneath an awning. A cyclist cursed after skidding through a puddle.
Dex had been parked outside your building for almost fifteen minutes. Five of those minutes had passed since your last text.
I'll be down in five minutes 🥰💙
The blue heart glowed on his phone screen.
His favorite color.
His knees buckled together and he couldn't stop himself from biting his lip—which already curled into a soft smile before he could stop himself. Dex was so gone for you. God, two weeks.
Only two weeks together, and you'd somehow learned him so completely it scared him.
The blue heart wasn't random. You remembered he'd once admitted blue made him feel calm. You'd started calling him baby after he'd jokingly complained nobody had ever used pet names for him. You kissed him goodbye every morning like it was a promise instead of a routine.
Nobody had ever loved him like that.
Nobody had ever made him feel... chosen.
His knee bounced beneath the steering wheel. Dinner tonight? There was that little Italian place you'd pointed at last weekend. Or maybe takeout. You liked eating on the couch with terrible movies playing in the background, your legs tangled together while you stole bites from his plate despite ordering something different.
He smiled wider.
He'd buy something nice.
Maybe flowers.
No...
Flowers died.
Something that lasted longer.
His fingers absentmindedly rolled the tiny sun charm hanging from his keys. It spun back and forth, catching flashes of grey afternoon light. He'd bought it yesterday because it reminded him of you. Even when it rains, I've still got my sunshine. Corny, he knew that—but you'd laugh and kiss him regardless.
The lobby doors slid open and his entire face lit up before his brain had time to catch up.
There you were.
Your jacket hugged your shoulders against the cold, droplets clinging to the loose strands of hair around your face. Your work bag bounced lightly against your hip as you stepped beneath the building's awning, squinting at the rain with the tiny frown you always wore whenever you realized you'd forgotten an umbrella.
Cute.
So unbelievably—
Someone stepped out behind you.
Mark?!
Dex's smile disappeared.
The man adjusted the strap of his laptop bag as if he belonged beside you. Black hair neatly combed back. Glasses slipping halfway down his nose. The kind of smile that looked practiced enough to survive board meetings and office politics. He said something and you laughed and it wasn't the polite one, no it was the real one— the one where your eyes narrowed into crescents and your teeth bared. Mark laughed too, shaking his head before reaching into his bag.
Dex leaned forward without realizing it, his fingers curling tighter around the steering wheel. "Oh what the fuck..."
Mark pulled out a lollipop. Green wrapper. Green apple? He held it toward you with an easy grin, long fingertips brushing your sleeve.
Dex felt all the warmth drain from his hands.
His pulse, so calm only moments before, slammed against his ribs hard enough that he could hear it over the rain.
No.
No.
No.
Dex knew you liked sweets. Dex didn't know if you liked lollipops. Did Mark know before he did? Did you tell Mark more about yourself then Dex knew? Did Mark know what made you so you moreso than Dex did? Did he know the way your eyes crinkled when you were truly happy? The way your voice softened when you were tired? Did he know more? Did he know the way you hummed when you were tired? The way your nose scrunched when you were annoyed? Had he memorized the cadence of your voice better than Dex had? The paranoia hit like a freight train, causing his fingers to curl into fists.
When Mark peeled back the green wrapper and lifted the apple-flavored lollipop toward your mouth—
RAGE.
The car door flew open before he'd even realized he'd reached for the handle. Cold rain immediately soaked the sleeve of his jacket, but he barely felt it. His heartbeat pounded against his ribs so violently it drowned out the city around him. The buzzing began. The world spun around him, jealousy twisting his stomach into horrible shapes— fear an paranoia causing all warmth to retract from his fingers, as if it could sense the damage they were about to do.
A man Dex hated walked next to you. A man who wanted you. A man who had the audacity to touch you, to know you, to feed you candy like some kind of fucking parody of intimacy.
"Dex!"
You waved enthusiastically, abandoning the shelter of the awning as you hurried across the rain-slick pavement. Your heels clicked against the concrete, splashing through shallow puddles as droplets clung to your hair and jacket. Behind you, Mark followed at an easy pace, his laptop bag swinging against his hip, that infuriatingly relaxed smile still plastered across his face.
"There you are." Dex reached you in two strides before he pulled you into his arms. Not like a man desperate for a kiss—but like a man making a point. His hands cradled your face, tilting it up to his, and he kissed you with a slow, possessive thoroughness. His tongue traced the seam of your lips, coaxing them open, and you melted against him, your fingers tangling in his hair. "Mmm, I missed you sunshine."
"Me too." You looked up at him with that hopelessly fond expression that made his chest ache before your eyes drifted over your shoulder. "Oh—sorry." You laughed softly. "Mark, this is my boyfriend, Dex."
"Oh shoot, you guys have nicknames for eachother already?" Mark’s grin was infuriatingly bright, his hand outstretched like some kind of corporate shill. “Hey, nice to meet you formally, man.”
The blonde didn't speak, his upper lip raising in subtle disgust.
“Uh…” You glanced between them, your brow furrowing. “Do you guys know each other?”
"—Yeah." Mark began,
“—Never seen him." Dex finished.
"Oookay...?"
The rain picked up, a cold, relentless sheet of water that seemed to notify it was best to let this moment be for now.
"Oh hey." Dex jingled his keys, flashing the new sun-shaped hanger on his keychain. “Now I’ve got you even on the rainiest of days,” he murmured, pulling you close again for another kiss before shamefully turning it into an erotic open mouthed one. You pulled back, flustered and embarrassed, but Dex forced one last peck onto your lips. “You taste just like cherries, how's that possible huh?” His eyes flicked down to Mark, a slow, deliberate smile spreading across his face. “Just so good.”
Mark’s fingers whitened around the green apple lollipop in his hand, his smile faltering for just a second. "Right."
“—Oh, is that apple flavor?” Dex’s voice was sickly sweet, dripping with false innocence. “Oh, that’s my favorite.” He held out his hand. “Can I?”
“—Dex?—”
“Sure.” Mark’s voice was tight, resigned, as he handed it over.
Dex didn’t hesitate. He took the lollipop, swirled it in his mouth with deliberate slowness, and then—with a smirk that could curdle blood—pressed it to your lips. “Open up.” You hesitated, eyes widening in shock, but Dex’s fingers curled around your chin, forcing your jaw loose before sliding the candy between your teeth and onto your tongue.
“Oh, man, jesus— do that at home.” Mark’s voice was raw, strained, as he rubbed his face like he was trying to erase the memory.
“Taste good, right?” Dex grinned, triumphant, and yanked open the passenger door with one hand, shielding you from the rain with the other. “Go on, honey. Get in before you catch a cold.”
“Uh. Thank you.” You slipped into the car, the lollipop still in your mouth, shooting Dex a puzzled, almost betrayed look before settling into the seat. “Bye, Mark—”
“Yayyy, bye Mark!” Dex slammed the door shut behind you, cutting off the rest before turning to face the dark-haired man.
The smile vanished.
Rain hammered down, drumming against the pavement hard enough to blur the street beyond them, water rushing into the gutters like a river of filth.
Dex took a step forward.
Then another.
His voice was quiet.
Deadly calm.
“You listen to me.”
Mark scoffed, but Dex didn’t react.
“My patience with you is getting real fucking thin.”
Mark’s smirk wavered.
“Oh, please.”
“You’ve got a wife.” Dex took one slow, measured step forward. “And kids.”
Another.
“So why don’t you go home and spend your attention on them instead of following my girlfriend around?”
Mark’s grin slipped.
Dex smiled.
“There it is,” he said softly. “That look.” Another step. “So you do know exactly what you’re doing.”
“What the fuck are you talking about?”
Dex’s smile widened, almost pleasantly.
“If you ever make her uncomfortable…” He tilted his head, voice dropping to a whisper. “Don’t bother calling the cops first. Because I think you’ll be bleeding out on your kitchen floor before they even pick up.”
Mark’s face went slack. His composure shattered.
“Marble tiles, yeah.” Dex’s voice was a blade. “I know where you live.”
Silence.
The rain hammered against the roofs of the parked cars. Somewhere down the street, a horn blared, lost in the storm.
Neither man looked away.
After a long, tense moment, Dex stepped close—close enough to smell the fear on him—and raised his hand.
Then he slammed it into Mark’s shoulder with enough force to make him stagger.
He leaned in, close enough for only Mark to hear.
“You think very carefully about where you stand around her next time.” His voice was a promise. “Because if you don’t—you’ll be eating through a plastic tube for the rest of your life. And I’ll want you to remember this moment.” He gave Mark’s shoulder one final, punishing pat. “Okay?”
Dex stepped back, then back again, before finally opening his driver’s seat door. He paused, one hand on the roof, rain dripping from his jaw like tears.
“Nice meeting you formally, Mark.”
...
He slammed the door shut and squeezed his eyes shut so hard he almost saw stars.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck!
Why couldn't he just have something good for once?! Why did fate have to claw at him like this, to dangle a cockroach in front of him and then blame him for killing it?! Mark should die! If he died this would all go away. The rage, the fury, the paranoia— it could all be solved if he'd just remove your coworker permanently... putting him in a ditch, underground, somewhere in the dessert plains. How would he plan it? Lure him over to the apartment? No the walls were too thin and he'd have to carry him down, fuck, shit. Raid his home and put him in jail? No you'd know, you'd find out eventually, there's only so many strings he could pull before jeopardizing his position at the FBI. You wouldn't want him to kill. You wouldn't allow Dex in your life willingly if you'd find out he killed your co-worker— fuck.
“I don’t like him either.” Your voice cut through the storm in his head, soft but steady. You tilted your head, making eye contact. “But he’s the manager, so I kinda have to act like we’re all good, you know? It’s awkward because I used to serve him, and now he’s got this higher position over me. As a customer I could handle him, but as my manager? He’s been… more confident.”
Dex’s jaw clenched so tight his molars ached.
“—Did he touch you?”
“—No! Not at all. It’s not like that. He’s just… I guess he’s bored and likes the attention.”
Silence stretched between you, thick and suffocating, the rain outside turning the world into a blur behind the glass.
“Dex, what’s going on?” You put a hand on his thigh, squeezing lightly. “You obviously know him. I’m not stupid. Just tell me what’s up.”
He swallowed hard, his throat raw. “He’s got a family.” The words tore out of him, his voice cracking. Pink spots flared in his neck as his breathing turned ragged, his chest heaving. “Kids. A wife. A perfect fucking family.”
“How do you know that?”
“—Listen.” His fingers dug into the steering wheel, knuckles white. “He used to talk to me about you. In very… inappropriate ways. Said he’d been waiting for you to give him a chance. Wanted you in ways that weren’t his to want.” A shudder ran through him. “You need to find another job.”
The rain slammed against the roof, falling from the sky with such ferocity it blurred the windows entirely. You had to raise your voice just to be heard.
“Another job?” Your eyes widened, disbelief flashing across your face. You shook your head, crossing your arms in defiance. “What do you mean, ‘need’? I don’t need to do anything, Dex. I’m a big girl. I can handle myself just fine.” You turned to look out the window, your voice dropping to a brittle whisper. “Maybe we should talk about this later.”
“No. We talk about it now.” His voice was a whipcrack, his chest heaving with paranoia. “Sorry. I just—I’m not sorry. I’m trying to help you. You can’t work with someone like that. He’s a fucking psychopath.”
“A psychopath?” Your eyebrows shot up. “What makes you think that?”
“Because he’s crazy!” The words exploded out of him. “He stalks you. He showed up at your café every single time for one reason only. And he’s got kids, for Christ’s sake! Two of them!”
“You showed up at my café too,” you shot back, voice trembling. “You wanted me from the moment you saw me. That’s what you said.”
“It’s different!” His voice broke. “I love you!”
“I love you too!” Tears welled in your eyes, your voice cracking. “But you’re not ordering me to quit because some guy makes you nervous!”
“I’m not ordering you—”
“Yes, you did!” You threw your hands up, your voice rising. “Just stop. Please. I need this job. I can’t depend on you—”
“Baby. Baby, I can provide!” His voice was desperate, pleading. “You know that. You know how much I want to work for you? I’d double my hours just so you could stay home!”
“Dex, you have a life. I have a life.” Your voice was raw, exhausted. “If you work double, we won’t even see each other anymore. What’s your logic? We’ve been together for two weeks. I—it’s—just let’s go home. Okay?”
The blonde looked at you like you’d just shattered his world.
“Two weeks isn’t enough for you?” His voice was hollow, broken. He jammed his keys into the ignition, the engine roaring to life. “W-what, am I too much for you now?”
“I think you’re tired.” You sank deeper into your seat, your eyes glued to the windshield as the wipers fought a losing battle against the downpour. “I think I’m tired. I love you. Let’s keep it at that, okay? I want to go home and relax.”
Dex stared at you, his heart shattering. You were disappointed. And it broke him.
“I’ll—I can order takeout tonight?” His voice cracked, his hands trembling on the wheel. “What do you want? Chinese? Mexican? Italian—” His breath hitched. “What do you—what do you want?”
He melted into your touch when you cupped his face, massaging his scalp before pressing a kiss to his temple.
“We’re still… eating dinner together, right?” His voice was small, fragile. “It’s Friday. We always eat together on Fridays.”
“Yes, baby. We’re still eating together.” You stroked his hair, your voice softening. “Take a deep breath, okay? I’m quiet because I’m a little upset. Don’t worry.”
"A little upset, okay." He took a deep breath before softly pressing down on the gas pedal. "Okay, that's— that's okay, you're allowed to feel sad that's fine, baby, that's totally fine." He shudderingly exhaled, making his way onto the main road as the windwipers moved back and forth.
The rain blurred the neon lights of the city as you drove.
You reached forward and pressed play on the DVD player.
'Bobby Caldwell — What You Won’t Do for Love'
The soft jazz filled the car, the melody wrapping around the tension like a vice. Dex’s breathing steadied as he flicked his gaze between the road, the radio, and you. Over and over, until the rhythm of the song and the drumbeat of the rain finally soothed the storm inside him.
Rain mixed with the melody, the song’s ache softened by the relentless downpour. The car moved through the neon-lit streets, the changing lights painting your faces in hues of red and blue.
'Got a thing for you, and I cant let go.'

Dex didn’t return to himself after that night in the car.
Work became an extension of his obsession. Reports were filed early, flawlessly. Cases that had languished for months were closed in weeks. His superiors praised his dedication; his colleagues whispered about his sudden, unnerving efficiency. He didn’t just meet expectations—he erased them. The FBI, for all its rigid structures, couldn’t contain the force of his devotion to you.
His paycheck raised in accordance.
And with it he took you to dinners that stretched into late-night conversations, your laughter the only currency he valued. He bought you clothes not because you needed them, but because the thought of you wearing something he’d chosen made his chest swell. The receipts piled up, but the numbers didn’t matter—no, only the way your eyes lit up when he presented them to you.
Dex now insisted on driving and picking you up on his sick days. Every morning. Every evening. Rain or shine, sleet or snow, his car was there, idling at the curb like a loyal sentinel.
You protested at first—“But you're coughing and your temperature is so high. Oh Dex, let me take the bus today, okay? I'll bring you some cough syrup.”—but he’d only press a kiss to your temple and murmur, “Let me.”
When he wasn’t ferrying you to and from your office, he was at your apartment.
Always.
His toothbrush lived in your bathroom. His hoodies hung in your closet. His shoes stood at your entryway. The landlord eyed him with growing unease as Dex’s presence became less guest and more fixture. “He’s here again,” the old man grumbled to you one, jerking his thumb toward the living room where Dex sat on the couch, meticulously folding laundry like a man possessed. “You two serious or somethin’? Rent'll go up if he switches to your apartment and moves out of his own here. Don't think you youngin's are outsmarting me cuz' ya aint.” You smiled, because it was easier to close the door on him that way.
It was all going well.
Until it wasn't.
He pulled up to your office as always— and there he was, walking behind you. The man who had, just weeks ago, made Dex’s blood boil with the mere thought of him.
His grip on the wheel whitened and the world narrowed to a single, suffocating point: Mark’s fingers lingering just a second too long when he handed you a file. Mark’s smile, that sickening, knowing smile, as he walked beside you like he hadn't been threathened a month ago.
Dex’s breath came in short, sharp bursts. His vision tunneled. He didn’t remember parking. Didn’t remember killing the engine. He only remembered the way his fingers curled into fists, the way his teeth ground together until his jaw ached.
And then you were there, opening the passenger door, your smile faltering when you saw his face.
“Dex?” Your voice was hesitant. “What’s wrong?”
He didn’t answer. Couldn’t. The sight of Mark—alive, breathing, next to you—was a knife twist in his ribs.
“Dex?” You repeated, louder this time.
“—Oh, hey sweetie." he managed, voice raw "oh, I was just thinking about, uhm. Work. Here, get in."
The drive home was a blur of white-knuckled steering and clenched teeth. He didn’t trust himself to speak and plastered a very happy smile on his face as he listened to you speak.
That night, Dex begged you. “Call in sick tomorrow.” His voice was a rasp, his hands gripping your waist as he pulled you close. “You're not feeling well. I’ll handle everything.”
"Are you sure?" You frowned. “Let me at least make your favorite tomorrow. Pasta?"
“Yes, yes great—" He fumbled in his pocket, handing you over a copy of his apartment key. "Okay and take this, and give me a copy of yours."
You wanted to inquire about his sudden haste, but the look in his eyes—desperate, fearful—made you refrain. He struggled with anxiety so much you didn't want to spike it.
“And your location,” he added, pulling out his phone. “Turn it on. Always.”
You stared at him. “Dex, that’s—”
“Non-negotiable.” His jaw was set, his eyes dark with something unreadable. “I need to know where you are. All the time. This is a dangerous city you know how many cases I get shoved in front of me. Kidnappings, trafficking— just, do it. For me.”
You did it because you loved him.
The perfect life was still perfect.
But it was cracking.

Two weeks later, 5:30PM.
(.....)'s POV
You forgot to charge your phone.
One minute, it was buzzing in your bag. The next—silence.
Dex wasn't there to wake you today. He hadn't been home the past two days, but kept sending messages about some FBI S.W.A.T meeting he had to be present for. He told you not to worry and that he'd see you tonight.
You left home in a rush. Your phone at around 50%— usually enough to last you throughout the day.
Your headset was clamped over your ears, the microphone dangling like a dead thing as you slumped in your chair.
The office was a spam of fluorescent lights and it's dull ceaseless drone of corporate monotony. A place where time stretched like taffy; suffocatingly long— and the only thing that moved with any rhythm being the hum of the air conditioning, a mechanical whir keeping the corpse of this workplace just barely animated.
Work had been a real slog today. You'd been picking up phone calls from worried customers about their annual plan, how they wanted to change it, and how their wifi suddenly stopped working; they had plugged it out of the outlet.
"Have you tried turning your computer on and off again, Miss Hunnington?" You spoke into the microphone attached to your cheap headset, softly launching yourself from the table edge to spin. "Oh, really?" You gasped—eyebrows drawing up from exhaustion. This had been the eleventh call tonight where after an hour of troubleshooting it appeared the customer didn't have their computer on in the first place. "Oh well, if you ever think: 'help my computer is not working aahhh!' " your chair spun to a halt. "—it might be a good idea to check if the power button is on? There's a little light to notify you when this is the case, or just soft whirring from the machine itself. Yes. Thank you so much for contacting All-Safe. Goodbye."
You slid your headset off and sighed.
"Hey, just wanted to let you know you're doing great." Mark said, eyes peering over your cubicle across from you.
"Jesus Mark—" Your headset neaely clattered to the ground at the sight of it. "Hey don't do that."
He reclined out of his cubicle, now facing you with a smile so gross it made you itch.
You got up from your seat in response, dusting off your skirt to look around; your gaze darting around the office like a trapped animal searching for an exit—anywhere but him—but everyone else was hunched over their screens, their faces bathed in the cold blue glow of Excel spreadsheets and endless emails, the air thick with the scent of stale coffee and the faint metallic tang of recycled air, dark circles under eyes—yours included—painting the room in shades of exhaustion.
“I’m gonna get some coffee.”
“Aw, without me?” Mark’s laugh was a wet mocking sound, the clasp on his belt jingling as he pushed himself up, his movements exaggerated, performative, as if he was trying his best to show you how attractive he was. “Hey, why don’t I treat you to something today? Your man hasn’t been picking you up lately, so I was thinking I could take you to a proper company meal. Somewhere nice.”
You blinked at him dryly.
“Uh, I don’t know. I’ve got a lot of work and—”
“Korean barbecue is really good.” His smirk was instant, the words dripping with false sincerity as he leaned against your cubicle wall, the scent of his cologne—cheap, cloying, overpowering the air between you. “It’d be a disappointment if you declined my culture like that. Trust me, it’s really good. They’ve got this marinated beef that’s just… perfect.” He tilted his head, his grin widening as if he’d just offered you a gift instead of a demand wrapped in politeness. “What do you say?”
You looked around, the office a labyrinth of gray cubicles and tired faces, no one meeting your eyes, no one daring to look up from their screens, as if acknowledging your discomfort would somehow make them complicit in whatever game Mark is playing.
Dex offered you a life of comfort. He'd provide for you both, yes, you heard that many times before from other men and it never worked out the way you thought. Depending on someone financially was nice until they slowly inched back the funds, it was nice until they refused to bring groceries home after a fight. You didn't want to put word-of-mouth and bad experiences against your partner— but you simply didn't know him that well yet. You'd been dating for a few months and he still struggled a lot with anxiety attacks. You were worried that when times would be tough, that when shit hit the fan— he'd possibly crumble and need someone to depend on too. And when that time came you wanted to be able to carry him financially, as well.
“Look, I appreciate you." Mark began, words laced with the unspoken threat of leverage, “but you’ve gotta be a team player if we’re gonna make this work. You’re still on a temporary contract.”
A beat of silence stretched between you, his eyes boring into you, waiting, his smile never wavering, as if he’d already decided how this conversation would end and was just savoring the moment before the kill.
“So…”
“So you say the word.” His voice was a purr, a threat disguised as kindness, his fingers tapping against the cubicle wall. “You just say the word.”
“—I’m gonna get my coffee first, if that’s alright—”
He threw his hands up in mock surrender, his grin never wavering. “Oh yeah! Sure, of course. Go ahead.”
You walked away, rolling your eyes so hard it hurt. What an asshole. If he really had a wife and kids, like Dex had mentioned in passing, he was hiding them scarily well, the kind of well that made you wonder if they existed at all.
The coffee machine hummed to life as you approached, its digital display glowing like a beacon in the gray void of the office. You tapped in your preffered strength of bean, milk, and sugar.
It was a good idea to start looking for other places—but getting a job in hell's kitchen had become near impossible...
The dark stream of coffee began filling up your cup, steam blowing up.
Mark probably saw your name and picture and decided he'd take you in. Of course he did. You didn’t know enough about computers to work at an IT firm this elite. You were just the intern. The temporary fix. The one who could be replaced without a second thought, the one who didn’t dare complain when the workload piled up or the hours stretched on, because what were you going to do? Quit? In this economy? In this job market?
A jarring, overplayed tune blared from the machine—some corporate-designed melody, a cartoon cat dancing with a coffee cup, its movements stiff and unnatural, like a marionette on strings. It was disturbing that this dancing cat was the only semblance of life in this place. A reminder that even joy here is manufactured, shipped overseas in bulk, and spat out by a machine that doesn’t care if you drink it or not, doesn’t care if it’s good or bad, doesn’t care about you. But...thank god for the dance, right?
You took your cup and trudged back to your cubicle. This place was turning you as miserable as Friedrich Nietzsche.
Mark was gone. Thank god for that.
You sank into your chair, rolling back into the dim glow of your monitor, the screen flickering to life as you start typing, your fingers moving on autopilot, the words blurring together—numbers, complaints, the same question, the same solution, over and over, until your vision swims and your head pounds and you wonder if this is what drowning feels like.
A notification popped up, glaring at you like a warning, the words stark against the screen:
“This computer has been blacklisted. Please refer to your office manager for permission.”
Of course.
Your shoulders tensed when his long fingers curled around them from behind, Mark’s cologne—cheap, cloying, familiar—filling your nose as he loomed over you.
"Need help?" Mark moved in front of you and typed in the security code, successfully unlocking the computer with a taintful ding. "Can't have our intern skipping out on work now can we." His smile was hostile. "Okay so..."
You sighed and bit your lip, looking up at him with a gaze so empty it made him pause.
He leaned against your desk, legs too close to your chair. "Have you made up your mind yet?"
This was to keep your job. Just to keep your job.
You opened your mouth. "Yes."
----------
Dex’s POV.
The apartment door slammed behind him so hard the wood splintered at the frame. Dex didn’t feel it. Didn’t feel the cold air biting at his exposed wrists where his sleeves had ridden up. Didn’t feel the weight of his gun holster digging into his hip. He only felt the hollow in his chest, the one that had been widening with every unanswered call, every ignored text:
Where are you? 5:23PM
Answer me. 5:38PM
Are you okay? 5:55PM
——
Silence.
His hands shook as he jammed his feet into his boots, not bothering with the laces. The leather was still damp from the rain earlier, but he didn’t care. He yanked his coat on, the fabric swallowing him whole, petrichor clinging to the fibers. Keys jingled in his grip, the sound grating against the silence like nails on glass.
The stairs were a wooden blur beneath his boots, each step faster than the last. The damp night air hit him like a wall as he burst outside, the city’s neon glow reflecting off the wet pavement.
His car was still parked crookedly in the spot he’d left it in, the passenger door still ajar from his last frantic exit; he didn’t remember leaving it like that.
The engine roared to life, tires screeching as he peeled out of the parking space, the rear end fishtailing before he corrected and slammed his foot down. The speedometer climbed—60, 80, 100—past every speed limit, past every rational thought. The city lights became streaks of color, the buildings bending into smudges of light.
What if something happened?
What if you were hurt?
The questions were knives, twisting deeper with every mile.
He didn’t remember parking.
Didn’t remember flashing his badge at the security guard, the man’s startled blink before Dex was already past him, storming toward the elevators. Didn’t remember the elevator ride up, the numbers on the panel blurring into one continuous streak of light, his reflection in the stainless steel warped and distorted.
The hallway stretched before him, a gauntlet of fluorescent tubes flickering like dying stars. The buzz of the lights was a swarm in his ears. His pulse roared, a freight train barreling down tracks he couldn’t see.
Then—your cubicle.
And there you were.
Alive.
Laughing.
Mark leaned over your shoulder, his fingers brushing against your keyboard, his voice too low, too intimate. You laughed, the sound bright and carefree, and Dex’s vision whited out for a second.
Something inside him snapped.
He moved without control.
In three strides, he was there, his hand clamping down on your shoulder like a vice. The warmth of your body seared through his gloves, but he barely felt it.
“We’re leaving.”
You jumped, spinning toward him with wide, startled eyes. “Dex?! Hey, what are you doing here—?”
Mark straightened, his smirk faltering when he saw Dex’s face. The air between them crackled, thick with something ugly, something possessive. “Whoa, man. Chill.”
Dex ignored him, his hand squeezing around your shoulder in warning.
You halted, confusion and concern pulling your brows together. “Dex, what’s wrong? My phone died, I was just—”
“Get your shit.” His grip on your arm was bruising, his fingers digging in like he wanted to communicate this was about to get out of hand. He wrenched you up out of your chair. "Come on, don't make me repeat myself—"
"Hey." Mark scoffed, stepping closer, his voice dripping with false amusement. “Back off, man. She’s fine.”
"Fine?"
One second, Mark was standing there—smug, self-satisfied, his stupid smirk in place like a brand on his face.
The next, Dex’s fist crashed into his jaw.
The sound was deafening—bone on bone, a wet, sickening crack that echoed through the office like a gunshot. Mark’s head snapped sideways, his body following in slow motion before he crumpled onto the carpet in a heap, his limbs twisting unnaturally.
A gasp rippled through the room. Chairs scraped back. Phones appeared, their flashes blinding, recording every second of Dex’s unraveling.
“What the fuck is the matter with you smart-mouthing me?!” Dex’s voice was a snarl, raw and trembling with fury, the words tearing from his throat like a physical force. “I’ve been calling her for an hour!”
Mark gasped, his hands flying to Dex’s wrist, fingers clawing at the iron grip around his throat. “Dex, man—I—”
“Was it you that made her ignore me?!” His grip tightened, lifting Mark slightly off the ground, his entire body trembling with the effort of restraint. “Is it because of you?!” He shook Mark like a ragdoll, his voice cracking. “Answer me!”
"No!" Mark shot back. "Her phone died, you fucking lunatic!"
“Dex!” You grabbed his arm, your fingers digging into his bicep like claws. “Calm down! It’s okay—he's right! Let me explain—”
For a split second, he hesitated.
Okay.
His grip loosened, his breathing hitched.
But then Mark laughed.
A wet, bitter sound through bloodied teeth.
Mark coughed, struggling onto an elbow, his breath ragged. “Jesus…” He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, leaving a streak of red across his skin. “She really picked a psycho.”
The comment stung and twisted his control out of shape. It was over now.
Dex grabbed him by the front of his shirt and slammed the him against the cubicle wall, his forearm pressing into Mark's throat. “You don’t get to talk to her. You don’t get to look at her.”
Mark’s face turned purple, his legs kicking weakly against the floor. “You're crazy—”
"Stop it, please!"
Dex flung him around—sending him crashing into a row of filing cabinets. The metal groaned under the impact, the sound ringing through the office like a death knell. Mark slumped against the bureau, blood trickling over his eyebrow and down his mouth.
The office was in chaos now—chairs scraping, voices rising in a cacophony of shock. Coworkers stood frozen in their cubicles, jaws slack, eyes darting everywhere— their faces alight with the thrill of disaster.
“Fucking snake—I gave you a chance—”
“Dex, stop! What are you doing?!”
“Someone call security!?” an elder lady shrieked.
"Look at his jacket—FBI S.W.A.T— he is the security!"
Mark spat a tuft of blood onto the linoleum. “F-fuck you, man.”
Dex’s face relaxed. His shoulder turned before his hips did, and his boot slammed into Mark’s ribs. The crack was wet, sickening. Mark groaned, curling in on himself as he rolled onto his side, his body trembling.
“Ah— fuck!”
“Oh my god!” Your hands flew to your mouth, your voice breaking. “You fool!”
Dex was hyperventilating, his hands still clenched into fists, his entire body coiled like a spring, ready to snap. Then he turned to you.
"Someone call an ambulance!" A younger man yelled. "Cops have gone mad ever since Fisk got hold of that hotel—"
Dex's grip on your arm was firm enough to ache, his fingers tightening reflexively before snarling— "Told you, we're leaving." He guided you toward the exit with quick, purposeful strides, every muscle in his body wound painfully tight.
The office dissolved into little more than noise around him—raised voices, hurried footsteps, the unmistakable click of phone cameras. He registered all of it.
Dex simply refused to look.
The only thing he allowed himself to focus on was you. The heat of your arm beneath his hand, the steady rhythm of your footsteps beside him.
Proof that you were here.
Safe.
The weight of dozens of eyes followed you through the office. Conversations died as you passed, replaced by hushed whispers that clung to the air long after you walked by.
Dex kept moving.
His jaw flexed once.
Twice.
He never looked back.
If he did, he wasn't entirely sure he'd keep walking.
...
Outside, the rain had started—a slow, steady patter against the pavement, the drops fat and heavy, like the world itself was weeping. The air smelled of wet asphalt and ozone, the scent sharp and clean.
He finally let you go.
“Why?!” You spat the words as soon as the lobby door's disappeared behind you, your voice trembling with fury. “I was about to secure my position, and you ruined it!”
“Oh yeah?” Dex’s voice was a growl, his jaw clenched so tight it ached, his hands gripping his keys like it was the only thing keeping him from unraveling. “And what do you think he’d have done after you joined his freak-company dinner, huh? Give you a contract?” He opened the door and sat down in the driver seat— turning the key in the ignition with a sharp twist, the engine roaring to life. “Get in,” he barked, yanking the passenger door open. “Now!”
“You can’t act like this,” you snapped, your own temper flaring, your arms crossing over your chest like a shield. “You can’t just shove people! You can’t beat them up and put your job at risk—you can’t make decisions for me!”
“I said get in.” His voice was a low, dangerous growl, his control slipping like a frayed rope. “Please.”
“Last time you’re pulling this.” You got in and slammed the door shut, the sound echoing like a gunshot in the confined space. “Last time.”
Rain tapped against the roof, a steady rhythm that filled the silence between you, thick and suffocating, a living thing coiled tight in the space between your seats. Dex sat there for a long moment, his hands gripping the wheel, his breath coming in sharp, uneven bursts, his knuckles white.
“I’m sorry, okay? But there was no other way—this had to be fixed! I fixed it and now you can work without him bothering you."
"My job might be gone tomorrow!"
"Which I told you to quit anyway—!" The words tumbled out before he even started the engine. "I'm sorry I freaked out. I'm sorry. Fuck, please just… let me fix this, okay?”
The city lights blurred into streaks of gold and white as he merged onto the highway, the wipers a steady rhythm against the storm, the tension in the car a physical weight pressing down on your chests. Neither of you spoke. Neither of you looked at each other.
Then he pulled into a drive-in, the neon sign flickering in the rain, its glow casting eerie reflections on the wet pavement.
“Stay here,” Dex muttered, killing the engine. You watched as he left, your arms crossed and muttering something beneath your breath, your shoulders hunched.
Dex came back with a bag of food, the scent of burgers and fries filling the car, warm and familiar, a stark contrast to the cold anger still lingering between you. He handed you a drink without a word, his movements stiff, his eyes avoiding yours.
The drive continued.
He didn’t stop until he found what he was looking for—a secluded lake, its surface dark and still under the rain, the water’s edge illuminated by the car’s headlights cutting through the gloom like twin spotlights in the night. He killed the engine, the sudden silence deafening after the hum of the road.
“Okay, so I got you curly fries and uh… a burger with the Oreo sundae you liked last time?” His voice was hesitant, like he was walking on eggshells, his fingers already unpacking the bag. “Oh, and chocolate brownies.”
“Dex…” Your voice broke, the single word laced with something raw and fragile. “Don’t you… don’t you get it?”
“Get what?” A few fries were already in his mouth, and he was setting up your meal like this was any other night, like the world hadn’t just shattered around you. “I hit him too hard? Yeah, I forgot to dial it down. I’m sorry. Baby, take a sip of this.”
The straw paused on your lips, and you looked at him incredulously, your eyes wide with disbelief.
“No.” Your hands waved around, your voice rising in frustration. “Not because you hit him too hard, Dex.” The words were soft, like a mouse breathing in the mouth of a tiger. “You assaulted someone without probable cause at my workplace.”
“—Yeah. Like I said, I tapped him too hard.” He made a fist gesture next to his head, chewing on his fries and giving you half of his pack.
“No!” You pawed the straw away, your hands trembling, and sat back in your seat, your voice dropping to a whisper. “Are you good? Like, is it all ticking right up there? Get this straw away from me.”
His eyes began to scatter over the food in a panic, his confidence crumbling like a house of cards. “Yeah. I’m ticking just fine. W-what’s the problem? Should I have gotten something else? Shit. I didn’t know you started disliking these oreo sundays...”
You reclined in your seat, your eyebrows knitting like you were piecing it all together.
"Dex let me out."
"What?!" He laughed but suddenly shot out his hand to lock the car-doors. "Okay, baby, we should talk. Okay? Let me explain."
...
The backseat was cramped. The air thick with heat and tension. His hands were everywhere, rough and desperate, as if he needed to reclaim you.
To prove you were his.
To prove he hadn’t lost you.
And you let him.
Because beneath the anger, beneath the fear following your talk— you understood.
Or at least... you had tried to.
───
Nine days later, 7PM.
...
For the first time in days, the weight on his chest lifted.
The apartment smelled like you both now—like home. His things were everywhere. His toothbrush. His hoodies. His presence.
Dex somehow managed to move in a week later after that fiasco. He supposed his good deeds dwarfed his... oddities, but he still couldn't believe you were so understanding of them.
Dex took it with grace and didn't question you when you pressed your key into his hand.
The landlord, desperate to keep a tenant who paid on time and never complained, reluctantly agreed—doubling the rent of your apartment instead. As if that could compensate for the chaos Dex had brought into your life.
He was attempting to perfect an egg for you to eat when you'd finally come home.
The pan hissed, the butter sizzling, golden and bubbling. Dex stood over it, spatula in hand, his hazel eyes rigid on the pan—focused, for once. Not on the past. Not on the what-ifs. Just on the now.
Unil the phone rang.
Fisk’s voice was a blade through the phone. Sharp. Cutting.
“You’re slipping, boy. Pull it together.”
Dex’s grip tightened around the spatula, his knuckles whitening. “I’m not slipping.”
“Then explain why you haven’t shown up to work in a week. After you paid your girlfriend’s workplace a visit.”
His blood froze.
“What?”
“Mark called in sick. Then he quit. Without notice.” A pause. Deliberate. Mocking. “Funny how that happened right after you put your hands on him.”
Dex’s vision whited out.
The spatula slipped from his fingers, clattering against the stove. The egg, half-cooked, sat abandoned, the yolk still trembling.
“You’re on thin ice, Benjamin.” Fisk’s voice was low, dangerous. “One more stunt like that, and you’re done. There’s only so much I will cover up for you without any of your services in return.”
The call ended.
Dex stood there, the phone slipping from his fingers, hitting the counter with a thud. A noise came from the apartment next to yours—his old apartment. Technically still his, with all his furniture and items intact—but there was a noise.
A break-in?
Two people.
Men.
Dex’s instincts screamed.
He moved before he could think.
Softly, silently, he opened your door and stepped into the hallway, his gun in hand.
The door to his old apartment was closed, but the walls were thin enough to hear the rustling.
