I just had a major realisation during this scene.

Chalky when he looses control usually yells at the students to the point where he takes it too far. I was thinking about the Scotland series and specifically Chalky's backstory. Now I have come to the conclusion that obviously he wants the kids to respect him. Since he grew up with the violence that he did I believe that in these situations he replicates what he experienced.

It would make sense with how he looked like he was about to hit Shona then after like he'd been punched in the stomach. The guilt of making a child feel the way he did growing up.
