So I was on a wiki binge, went from reading up on fabric terminology to old DCU plotlines (as you do) and was reminded that, in the Teen Titans comics, Dick had already had a green-eyed, flying teen ally named Danny, who would later be called... Phantasm. That's about where the DP similarities end, of course. I never read much of the older Teen Titans stuff but I definitely recall Danny being an unlikable little turd. If I look up any old issues and anything interesting, I'll let you know? lol

That's quite the Coinkydink! If it wasn't for the fact that the wikis say he apparently first turned up in the late 80s, I'd almost wonder if that wasn't a crossover fan having some fun. Wouldn't be the first time fandom wiki hijinks have ensued.
Daniel 'Danny' Chase/ Phantasm
a metahuman with powerful telekinetic abilities and a near-photographic memory. Although Wolfman hoped the character would restore the "teen hero" feel to a group composed mostly of characters in their twenties, Danny was also intended as a comic foil for one of the group's foundational characters, Beast Boy.
Problematically, the character was often portrayed as an overly snide, egotistical brat. Conflicts with Beast Boy were one-sided, with Chase invariably delivering come-uppance. Meanwhile, other members of the team proved prone to commenting on how impressed they were by Chase's cleverness and capability. - Wikipedia

In the end, the character was redeemed somewhat when he willingly gave up his life to save Raven's homeworld of Azarath as he, Arella, and the disembodied souls of Azarath were all merged into a new entity that would also refer to itself as the Phantasm who wore the costume that Danny Chase was wearing.

Danny was born in Los Angeles California. He was adopted into a good family, but it wasn't his cup of tea. He left in high school, was legally emancipated, and his parents paid for him to move to Hawa'ii where he finished school and college. He graduated with a degree in business and music engineering. After he graduated, he moved out to New York City where he opened up a dance club with his best friend, and their business soon expanded to another club in Danny's name opening up Los Angeles. A few years later, after securing a job with Calvin Klein as a model, as well as a retired young porn star, he decided to open up another club in a US city that attracted a good amount of young, thriving millenialls. That place was Myrtle Beach. In that same time, he met London Minou, and his life took a spin for the better. Putting the club on hold for a bit, he decided to just enjoy his life with her.
