Transmedia Storytelling Workshop with Daniel Corey

 At Full Sail, where I teach, we’re right in the middle of a rocking Hall of Fame Week — our 8th annual celebration featuring panels, workshops, and other events with some of our university’s most esteemed and successful alumni.

This morning I had the honor of hosting a Transmedia Storytelling Workshop for our students with comics writer and transmedia storyteller Daniel Corey (Digital Media, 1998). With his company DangerKatt Creative Studios, Daniel has written and produced several graphic novels, including Moriarty and Red City, both of which were picked up by Image Comics. 

Daniel has embraced transmedia storytelling to reach and engage new fans of his work, and make his characters literally leap off the page — Moriarty: Endgame featured a virtual reality experience that premiered at WonderCon last year, and his recent title Bloodworth features augmented reality content that comes to life when you aim your smartphone at its pages.

BLOODWORTH in Augmented Reality!

Anyone that follows me knows that I’ve been working to develop the new comic title BLOODWORTH with artist Chris Fenoglio (RED CITY, X-FILES: ORIGINS, ORPHAN BLACK) for the past year and a half. We recently finished our first 32-page issue! At the same time, I have collaborated with AR company Blippar, using their Blippbuilder tool to create Augmented Reality around the comic.

This year at Comic-Con 2016, I was fortunate to be able to participate in a panel titled “Comics of Tomorrow: Innovations for the Future of Comics,” which made Forbes Magazine’s list of Top Panel Picks for the show. I was able to demo the BLOODWORTH AR functionality with this short video you see above.
