Canonically JD was an adhd-fueled little shit of a favorite-child, while Dan was the anger-fueled fuckup kid. Both to Barbara(who became an alcoholic during this period post divorce) and Samuel(who dipped constantly.) So of course I had to draw some of my headcanons as to what their homelife in Troutwood, Ohio would be like considering all that. And do adore them all heavily.
JD is about 8 here while dan is 13. Making it 1988 at the time
