Stationery Saturday: Neptune Pageant
On this Stationery Saturday, we take a look at the letterhead created for the “Court of Neptune Pageant” held in Milwaukee in August of 1926. The event was a celebration of Milwaukee’s waterways and featured a grand opening parade, a “water ballet,” boat races, a water rodeo, and more. The grandiosity of the event is relayed in this elaborate letterhead, featuring an illustration of the God Neptune rising from Lake Michigan in front of the Milwaukee skyline. This item also bears the signature of the pageant’s honorary chairman, Mayor Daniel Hoan. This letter can be found in the City Club of Milwaukee Records (Milw MSS AS, Box 1, Folder 9).
