Daily Wax 3: Æthenor’s Faking Gold and Murder (VHF#111)
Æthenor return with percussionists Alexandre Babel and Nicolas Field, but trade the indomitable Krystoffer Rygg with the otherworldly Anok Pe, David Tibet. He is credited with writing the 'ÆtherTexts', and I can't think of a better way to describe his haunting nasal croon over the absolutely schizophrenic and alien noise this album runs. The switching of the gears between screaming, wailing sound and unsettling space is completely unpredictable, and in contrast to Betimes' subdued and subtle growth Faking Gold And Murder explodes and bursts with chaotic cymbal crash and foreboding synth drops that constantly threaten to swallow the vocals. Truly transcendent. (10/10)
