THE GIRLFRIEND (2025) 1X01 « Episode 1 »
The Girlfriend was great but could have been improved if Daniel would have known Cherry was insane the whole time and accepted her anyways. Then when his mom tries to warn Daniel he could have been like yeah I know she is a psycho that's why I love her!!! Like match each other's freak!!!
THE GIRLFRIEND — Episode two.
Am I insane here (i don't think so, I think all I'm about to list is the show's intention)? But the show is called The Girlfriend, but all I really ended up doing is looking more at The Mom for her wildly crazy antics. Over the course of 6 episodes, she faked her son's death while dragging him out of the country, got Cherry fired and blacklisted in her profession, bought a burner phone to impersonate her with (so her son had no idea he wasn't talking to her) then broke up with him over an insensitive text, and drugged him. But I'm supposed to believe Cherry's the psychotic perpetrator Laura tries to paint her as, when she carries out a lot of minor, misleading measures, and the same actions that Laura does to her...? because she set out to get Laura fired BECAUSE Laura did the same to her; this wasn't a random act like how Laura reacted for it to seem. One could argue she acted possessive and stared her down in that 1 scene kissing Daniel (if that pov is meant to be reliable) because Laura acted possessively with Daniel and their kiss (again, if that pov is meant to be reliable).
I get they're both batshit, but am I really supposed to look at Cherry because she fought back the same way Laura did and would? I get why it's concerning (and her mother shouldn't have protected her from that one father revelation, if it's what it sounds like), but was Laura really trying to act like vandalizing her friends paintings with the word "Liar" was really worse than all she had done?
Cherry is vengeful (listen if Daniel doesn't cross her, he can remain safe lol), yet Laura is just as bad and unaware to it, just as she's manipulative and sneaky before Cherry ever makes a real impression.
and like, in terms of the revelationary video at the end: Cherry didn't kill Laura; Daniel killed Laura, and she didn't mislead him into doing it, like Laura's secret recording makes it sound...Would Cherry have led him into something like that and/or turning on her? Perhaps..we'll never know (and neither can Daniel)....But as far as I'm concerned, both of those women were batshit insane for entirely different reasons and game recognized game ...where he just so happened to walk in on the moment she was drowning Cherry & not the scenario where his girlfriend was drowning his mother (if it was the other way around, Cherry would've also been wrongfully killed). It's an ending following missteps after women repeatedly going toe-to-toe with one another; it's a cautionary tale of sorts of this cat and mouse femme-fatale roulette. It's amazing! and where's my season 2?
question question because I’m a tad bit confused, did Donovon really just start adding different types of disorders to himself to gain pity and to survive school on page 78-79 or does he actually have ADD and he doesn’t know it and he just starts adding random stuff because it genuinely threw me off 💔
Canonically, he just pretended. The only canon neurodivergent character in the entire book series is Daniel Sanderson, who has ADD.
(He would now have ADHD since the term "ADD" was phased out in 1987, but was still commonly used in the late 2000s. It's just considered the "inattentive type".)
That does not stop me though, every character is neurodivergent to me lowkey.
my one critique of the girlfriend is that daniel is not interesting enough to warrant all this
