Washington would be lying if he said the worries of the man before him were not also his own. Seeing as this uncertain answer may further sadden his companion, who he wished to console, Washington chose instead to say, “This will indeed need some adjustment. Our young nation has still to grow into the country we dream of, and that will take both time and our collective efforts. I believe that we can soon leave the fighting for our land behind and focus on the task before us.”
A smile of many meanings graced his lips as he thought of the war finally ending. For his part it felt like it had gone on longer than the official fighting, since he had, as many others, stayed to serve in case the war would resume. “We are safe now and in the capable hands of our countrymen.”
