On the Shelves in Oxford this week we have two books on literary greats from both Oxford and London. 

Around the time he was working on Great Expectations and Our Mutual Friend, Charles Dickens wrote a series of sketches, mostly set in London, which he collected as The Uncommercial Traveller. Sometimes autobiographical, as childhood experiences are interwoven with adult memories, the sketches include visits to the Paris Morgue, the Liverpool docks, and the theatre. The Uncommercial Traveller is a revelatory encounter with Dickens, and the Victorian city he knew so well.

The Third Inkling is the first full biography of Charles Williams (1886-1945), an extraordinary and controversial figure who was a central member of the Inklings—the group of Oxford writers that included C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. From a poor background in working-class London, Charles Williams rose to become an influential publisher, a successful dramatist, and an innovative literary critic. This biography draws on a wealth of documents, letters and private papers, many never before opened to researchers.

ooc for daniel + emma

jenn heeer my thoughts for des two :D 

ok so i feel like since daniel is a fisherman and he lives out by the lighthouse this means he has some type of pet, right? so obvi emma is his veterinarian xD 

i’m thinking that maybe these two are like really good friends, oddly? like i feel like their friendship began when daniel would make house calls for his sick animals and emma would have to go out and check them out. she’d be like ‘jesus tyler, why can’t you just bring them in?’ but daniel would always repay her with her favorite wine and she’d be like ok life is ok. but i don’t know, i feel like if this is a yes, maybe they are close enough that emma tells him about her frustrations with the council and keeps him up on all the latest news there but they don’t talk about how she does that. idk, i just feel like they could easily be pass who just boss each other around but like kind of get one another but are just friends?

Set to open in the summer of 2016, a sleek museum designed by Swiss architect Peter Zumthor for a Norwegian zinc mine has been over a decade in the making, although parts of the attraction are already in place. The arrangement of buildings with its exposed beams, some perched on existing stone structures, is part of Norway’s National Tourist Routes.
