billylloomis: THE NME USED TO BE AWESOME like I'd religiously read it but it stopped being about the music and more about the image and wow even as a hardcore generic-NME-loved-bands like arctic monkeys and the strokes fan, you can basically predict that every single list will have 'I bet you look good on the dance floor' and about three oasis songs in the top 10 christabelleriley: I think the ideal indie diet is like joy division and the smiths and the velvet underground and if you're not miserable as hell after that then you're superhuman danmitgrimshaw: no exactly like I don't know if any of them ever wrote non-pop music and wanted to be a more indie artist and such but like harry went to jake bugg recently and louis is a fan of bombay bicycle club and niall owns vinyls like even if they did want to make indie music they're sort of stuck in this pop rut now and I bet if they tried to break out of it it would have to be pretty spectacular to leave the pop label because critics would be so harsh on them because of one direction
