fellas. imagine being a seasoned white house reporter and you've got a crush on the new white house press secretary cause she's got legs and a sense of humor and god wished he had her unflappability. and then you're talking to one of her best friends about politics, and you do him a favor, so he tells you she likes goldfish. so you go to the pet store and buy a goldfish and a pretty little tank for her office, so she's got something nice to look at, and when she recieves it, she's laughing so hard she can barely contain herself, and she tells you she likes the little goldfish crackers

The ease with which Josh assumes that CJ's job is so easy to do and the deprecating way in "I'm not your girlfriend, I'm not your camp counselor, I'm not the sixth grade teacher you had a crush on" comes immediately after he and CJ have such a wonderfully friendly and close and sweetly funny scene with the WOOT CANAL and it really kinda drives home the idea that, in the early seasons, the guys like her, they love her, they adore CJ Cregg. But they don't respect the work she does or the professional she is.

Josh loves her! Zero doubt about that! And when he puts into words what it is CJ is to the press and what he will improve on, he jumps to *teacher you have a crush on* and *girlfriend*.

And I like that that's the point where Danny decides to stop trying to stop Josh from getting on stage. (Which also kinda adds to some of the examples of like, men in the show who are very capable of seeing misogyny or just insulting language in each other, but fail to recognise it in themselves, but that's another thing.)
