Having a grandparent basically COME BACK FROM THE DEAD was weird for Danny. Truthfully, he didn’t remember Izzy from his earliest years, he had seen a few pictures, heard her name come up in family feuds every so often, but that was the extent of it. HE DIDN’T TRUST HER AT FIRST, but he didn’t trust anyone at first. Danny needed time, patience, he needed people to stick around. not many people did, not many people seemed willing to give him a CHANCE. They wrote him off as dismissive, RUDE, argumentative, trouble. and yes, he probably was those things, but he had other qualities too. He was a good kid.
He stands in the living room of his NEW grandmother's new house, it was nice, much nicer than anywhere they had lived. It felt like a REAL HOME. It was actually Poppy who had been desperate to come over, disguising her nosiness as a desire to help, and well, he wasn’t going to let her go alone. SO HERE HE IS, standing over a cardboard box filled with dusty old books, carefully placing them individually on the bookcase. ‘‘ are any of these my Moms from when she was growing up? She always says she loves reading, even though i’ve never seen her read a book in her life. ’’ that's because your father doesn’t like reading, Danny.
