Day 167 – Karaoke night
We hung out at the beach today. S took a long walk down the beach. It’s mostly full of other high-end resorts. Some of them had live music. All in all, the beach was pretty empty. We heard that the hotels are restricted on capacity because of COVID. This explains why most of the hotels we contacted did not have any availability.
We decided to walk to the Grace Bay strip for dinner. We walked over while it was still light out and not too hot. It’s a pretty short walk (about 15 minutes) and there is a sidewalk the whole way. Our two options for dinner were a French gourmet restaurant and an ‘Irish style’ sports bar called Danny Buoy’s. Of course we opted for the sports bar.
Shortly after we were seated, we learned it was karaoke night. The place filled up pretty quickly as everyone was sitting outside. We decided to start off with some chips and dip (salsa and queso). It turned out to be our meal as the portion sizes were huge and the chips and dip were delicious. J even tried her hand at some karaoke, though it took her a while to build up the courage as you have to perform on stage in front of everyone. She learned from her song selection error at the first beach barbecue and went with a crowd favourite, Dancing Queen by Abba. Everyone was really supportive. There was even some line dancing at various points in the evening. Sadly, the fun had to end as there is an 11pm curfew in Turks & Caicos, with most bars shutting at 10pm to allow people to get home in time for curfew. TCI is doing a great job of striking a reasonable balance between letting people live their lives and enjoy themselves, and keeping a lid on COVID.
We headed home and decided to walk back, which turned out to be OK. Weirdly, someone was watching as the hotel opened the gate when we approached the property. Still riding high on J’s karaoke performance, we ended the night with a pitcher of frozen margaritas and played our song selection game. As a wise man once said, good decisions are rarely made after 11pm.
