Slightly jealous Dan and that whole little interaction with Minow (no idea how you'd spell that but you get it) is low-key everything to me

like Neph sorta picking up on it, Dan instantly finding the opportunity to excuse himself from the group to get drinks, more Dan/Rowan teasing, shout-out to Rowan #1 Danphrus shipper (partially bc y'know those are her friends but also because she is so tired of their shit), Ani instantly pulling Minow aside like bro you DO NOT wanna be in the middle of whatever this is TRUST ME

just finished listening to cantripped for the first time recently and i’ve been having so many Thoughts about them, specifically the fact that Dan took 2 levels in barbarian specifically after the fight where they lose Nephrus

maybe i’m just overthinking things but idk there’s just smth about the concept that’s he wanted to be stronger bc they weren’t able to save Neph or that he’s more willing to use his anger to get Neph back

idk probably the fact that ever since Dan found out about the nightmares that Nephrus was having (I mean he was already worried with the whole mentioning-the-foresindicated(? on spelling)-and-almost-choking thing but) he told him he was going to try and help even when he didn't know the full context and that he didn't have to carry this alone.

But when it came down to it, he couldn't help Neph

he did everything he possibly could have with the knowledge he had and it still wasn't enough to protect him. they held onto Neph's arm as he sank into the earth with grip tight enough to bruise but he still slipped out all the same. he couldn't do what he said he was going to, he couldn't keep his word and he couldn't help him. because it wasn't enough

he told Nephrus he wouldn't be alone in this but even though they don't know where he is they know he isn't somewhere he wants to be, most likely at the will of someone who terrifies him. and there is nothing Dan can do, at least not as quick as he would have liked. the whole party is trying as best as they can to get him back, but in that moment his best wasn't enough, none of their bests were. it wasn't enough

in basically their first interaction it was Dan trying to help him hide himself with his cloak and finding them all a place to hide and keeping their whole group safe. but the last time they saw each other it wasn't enough,

they can promise and swear and reassure as much as they like but that doesn't change the fact that it wasn't enough

If the rescuing Neph bit doesn't at some point include Dan wrapping his cloak around Neph I don't want it /j
