SUPERGIRL ↳ 2.06: 'Changing'
“Okay,” Alex said, “listen, prepare yourself. She’s acting… strange.”
Lena strode next to her, clenching her fists as if she could grip her own cold fury with them. The audacity of Danvers
(Alex)
to call her in like she was some employee after what Kara had done to her, was shocking. She would have told her to fuck right off if not for the desperation in her voice. She almost hung up on her when Alex said it was about Kryptonite, and they needed an expert.
Outside the exam room, Alex directed Lena’s attention to a screen. Some two-bit “villain” (how she hated that word) was on the screen. She wasn’t sure what he was going for with his outfit but he looked like a cross between a cable repairman and a wannabe Ghostbusters with a helmet that reminded her of the cap on a salt shaker. He was thrusting a wand device at Kara, spraying her with a fine pink mist.
Some of the substance had been gathered into a small vial, currently residing in a lead canister. Lena turned the vial in her hands, watching the tiny, powdery crystals flow over each other like sand.
Lena swallowed, hard.
“She’s not on a rampage, so it’s not red kryptonite.”
“It appears to be pink kryptonite,” said Lena.
“Your scientific skills of observation astound me,” said Alex. “Marie Curie would be so proud.”
Lena gave her a flat look.
“Fuck you, Danvers. I haven’t had a chance to say this to your face yet, but fuck you. Fuck all of you, playing your little games mocking me to my face when we were supposed to be friends.”
“We were friends,” said Alex.
“Not friends enough for Kara to tell me the truth.”
“I told her not to,” Alex said, coldly, “and I was right. Maybe I kept at her too long about it, but she ended up keeping the secret because she was afraid you’d flip out and blow up your whole friendship over it, you fucking drama queen.”
Lena screwed the lead canister shut. It looks like it was meant to hold radioactive flour.
“Do you want my help or not?”
“Please save her. I’m prepared to deal with your sanctimonious bullshit if you save my sister.”
“I’ll need to work on the sample, but I should examine her first. Is it safe?”
“She would never hurt you.”
Lena rolled her eyes. Alex stared at her flatly.
“You two, Jesus Christ. If you were anyone else I’d just call it out, but fuck it, let’s keep this professional.”
Lena crossed her arms. “Call what out?”
Alex arched a brow. “Should I start with the office full of flowers or the literal billion dollars you spent on her?”
Lena’s nostrils flared and she felt red creeping up her cheeks. “That wasn’t about her, that was about keeping Edge from owning his own media empire. Murdoch is bad enough.”
“It’s a fashion industry magazine,” said Alex, “and Edge could just start his own. The difference is Kara worked at CatCo, where you started working instead of…”
“Do you want my help or not?”
Lena huffed. “Fine. Let’s go.”
Alex opened the door. Kara was seated sideways on the exam table, swinging her feet like a bored child. There was a faint pinkish tinge to sparking points on her pale skin and she looked up with a slight pink gloss to the whites of her eyes, visible at a distance.
“Heyyyyyyyyy~”, said Kara.
Lena blinked.
“Kara? How are you feeling?”
Kara stared at her hands. “Why are you here? I thought you hated me now.”
Lena felt a sharp sting of regret deep in her chest, but brushed it off, like crumbs from her sleeve. It was as meaningless as crumbs. Kara’s honeyed words were always to sweeten her lies.
Kara resumed staring at her hands. “Humans call them fingers, but I’ve never seen them fing. Oh,” she giggled, wriggling her fingers, “there they go.”
“Kara?” said Lena.
“Oh, hi, I didn’t see you come in,” said Kara. “Some dude sprayed me with glitter and now I’m all funny.”
Alex leaned over. “We only got her in her by convincing her the Backstreet Boys were waiting inside and she spent three hours singing those stupid songs with Nia before I called you.”
Lena licked her lips. “Ah, I see. Kara?”
“Yeah, babe?”
Lena flinched. Babe? What?
“How are you feeling?”
“I feel great,” said Kara. “Kinda… kinda relaxed but excited. I’m excitalaxed! I made up a new word!”
“Would you excuse us a minute?” said Lena.
“Sure,” said Kara.
Lena stepped out and closed the door after Alex joined her.
“Alex,” said Lena.
“Lena,” said Alex.
“She’s high,” said Lena.
“I know,” Alex sighed.
“That’s incredibly dangerous. If she was just a dumb blonde we could let her sleep it off, but she can bench press an aircraft carrier. What if she gets some inane idea in her head and levels half the city?”
“She isn’t going to hurt anyone.”
“Didn’t she throw Cat Grant off a building the last time she was under the influence of something? It was on TV, Alex.”
Alex scowled. “That was different. Also she had it coming.”
Lena’s brows shot up.
“What? She was a bitch to my sister. She made her cry like three times a week. I don’t buy into that hardass girlboss mentor routine, I never liked Kara working for her. It was a relief when you bought the company, I had hopes someone would finally be looking out for her. She’s fragile, Lena.”
Lena blinked. “What?”
“Yeah, turns out that having your planet explode and losing your entire culture, family, and way of life, then losing your foster father, and then having to kill your aunt who is your mother’s twin sister can do a number on you. Might make you a little bit clingy and weird and paranoid about losing everyone you love. Shit, Lena, out of that whole list I just lost my dad and it was not make me a drunk for six years and captain of the varsity slut team. And I’m gay.”
Lena stared at her.
“Why does everyone I know need therapy?”
Kara chose that moment to throw the door open, making them both jump. She was grinning ear to ear.
“I don’t need therapy, I need rum,” said Kara. She turned to Lena and stage whispered, “alien rum that I can get drunk on.”
“I don’t think that’s a good idea, Kiddo. Why won’t we go sit down and try to rest.”
Kara snapped her fingers. “I know what we can do! We can go clubbing! Come on, Lena, let’s go clubbing. If I go clubbing with you it’ll make Lena jealous.”
“We are so fucked,” Alex muttered.
Kara started forward, but Lena stepped in her path and pressed a hand to her chest.
She froze, staring open-mouthed at Lena. Lena could feel the muscles flexing under her palm and fingers, the nearly infinite strength pressed against her simple touch and yet yielding to it.
“Kara,” she said, softly, but firmly. “Let’s just go back in the room, okay? You’re intoxicated by the altered Kryptonite you’ve been exposed to and you’re not thinking straight.”
Kara looked her up and down, slowly. Lena felt a hot tingle pass through her and her legs quivered in her slacks. Kara’s eyes had gone dark and her chin dipped slightly and holy shit she was staring directly at Lena’s mouth.
Alex looked at her nervously.
“Lena,” Alex said, in warning.
“She won’t hurt me,” said Lena.
Brainy walked into the lab. “I have good news,” he said. “The half-life of this particular type of Kryptonite is very short, by my calculations it should only last a few… hours…” he trailed off, then added quickly. “I have business elsewhere, excuse me,” and fled the room.
Lena gave Kara a tentative push and the invincible Kryptonian stumbled back. Lena ended up guiding her into the room again and sat her down.
Alex began to follow.
“It’s fine,” said Lena.
“Are you sure?”
“She won’t hurt me. Close the door.”
Kara sat down and stared between her feet, fiddling with her hands.
Lena waited for the door to close and sat down next to her.
“Are you mad at me?” Kara whispered.
“Yes,” Lena murmured. “I’m so angry at you that it makes me want to scream.”
“Oh,” Kara said, her voice small.
Lena sighed. “I’ll never be mad enough to let anything happen to you, Kara.”
“But you’re mad.”
“I’m mad. I let you in, you didn’t do the same for me. I let you see who I am, good and bad, and you held back from me.”
“I’m sorry.”
“I know.”
“But you’re still mad.”
“Yeah,” Lena sighed.
Kara rubbed at her arms, sniffling.
Great, Lena thought, she’s coming down.
“Everybody changes,” said Kara. “Everybody goes away and leaves me. I’m so scared, Lena. I’m so scared of being alone. I was alone forever and ever in my pod and it hurt so much,” she choked out a little sob. “Everyone goes away and I can’t take it. I can’t stand it. I didn’t want you to go away so I lied to make you stay. I’m sorry.”
Lena, haltingly, put an arm around her. Kara leaned her head on Lena’s shoulder.
“Can I make it so you’re not mad at me anymore?”
Curious, Lena thought.
She wasn’t mad at all right now.
Kara began to sob softly, and suddenly, all at once, being mad didn’t make so much sense after all. She still felt it burning in her chest but it had gone from hot coals to dying embers, from raging magma to something bitter and sticky coating her lungs, making it hard to breathe.
“I think you can do anything if you try hard enough.”
Lean smoothed back her hair and curled the sleeve of her designer jacket around her hand and used it to dry the tears, and Kara hugged her, tightly but gently in her insistent way.
“I’m sorry.”
“I know, darling. Just relax and breathe, I promise it’ll be better soon.”
It was a funny thing, when Kara kissed her. It happened so naturally, so easily, that once it began, Lena was hardly aware how it started. It was not a lustful kiss, though she could feel that was there in the hungry way that Kara’s lips tugged at her own, almost pleading. Nor was it sad. It was hopeful, and it made something flare in her chest.
No, more than that. A crushing blast of warm air snuffed the dying embers of fury in her chest and in their place a new bonfire blazed into being, a sudden explosive joyful warmth that would blaze in her forever until the sun went out and the sky went cold. It was as if Kara had given her some red sun fire.
On instinct she lunged into the embrace and suddenly they were on the table, Kara swinging one leg lazily off the side as Lena straddled and locked lips with her.
"Oh God," Lena blurted, yanking back.
"What's wrong, baby?"
Lena almost fell off onto the floor when Kara called her that. She was sitting on Kara, panting.
"We can't," said Lena. "Kara, please, you're high as a kite."
Kara let out a soft, sad sound. Lena brushed her cheek softly. "It's okay. Just let me lay with you."
Kara shifted so Lena could join her, and they lay facing each other.
"I love you," Kara whispered. "You are my red sun, my scarlet sky, my beacon calling me back from the void."
Lena's breath caught. She tucked in close and kissed Kara on her nose.
"I'm tired," said Kara.
"Go to sleep," Lena whispered. “It'll be okay. I'll still love you tomorrow."
With a contented smile, Kara closed her eyes, looking so peaceful that Lena wanted nothing more than to watch over her.
When Alex came in and laid a blanket over them, she had the most frustrating grin on her face.
Lena decided she'd allow it.
The Hero in Me - part 1
Supergirl. Kara Danvers x Reader
Word Count: 2.8k
Notes: I know people prefer fics with Lena, but God how I love writing this moron here.
Kara isn’t in love.
Not because she isn’t capable of it, or because she doesn’t want to be, but because life asks too much of her, and love is a loss of control she can’t afford. She can’t have someone who matters so much that, if ever faced with the choice between saving the world or saving one person, she might not even consider the world at all.
It’s logical. Obvious. Perfectly clear.
And it collapses every single time she sees you.
WAPOW
Okay, I'm good. Onward and upward for season 2 episode 1 !
(Actually I am not good because there is so much in this episode that does not make sense unless I look at it in a gay way but I'll get to that later)
To the best of my abilities I have tried to watch this episode with my thinking brain on but I kept getting sucked into how cool it is which means I was constantly going back and worth between "wow this is so good !" and "I don't remember they'd cut down on Danvers Sisters time so early" and "Lena !!!" and "that James and Kara break up does not make sense"
My notes are barely legible.
First things first, the fucking pod, because years down the line it still makes me feel somewhat angry. They hype it up so much, it's a whole thing, and then it's just, like, a white dude in here.
The way Kara looks inside, one would think it's actually someone important in here, someone she recognises, like her dog Krypto or perhaps her own face staring back at her from another universe (Powergirl 😭). It could be either one of her parents in cyborg form, it could be baby Kal-El from a different universe, it could be anything at all ! And instead, it's your man from Daxam 😒
Okay. Moving on.
The James and Kara break up makes absolutely no sense to me regardless of how much they try to establish that Kara has changed her mind (via something that will from then on never, ever cease to make me extremely mad, which is using Alex to make her sister change her mind about men for some fucking reason)
Kara does like James, and James does like Kara. He knows her, he brings her her favourite food, he says they should watch the Venture launch because he knows Kara is interested in space, he hypes her up when she goes save the ship, and then… this fizzles out into nothing.
And this absolutely does not make sense from a storytelling perspective (I know, I know, what they were doing and why, but if you're going to shoehorn your piece of toast in, at least have the decency of making it make sense). Kara has spent the entirety of the first season chasing after James, and James, as established at length, is horny for the Supers, he would not suddenly get mad because Kara had to ditch him to save a literal spaceship !
If I look at this with my Supercorp brain, which believe me I have done before, I can easily laugh it off and say that Kara met Lena and broke up with James five seconds later and it's really fucking funny. But we all know that what changed is that a greasy producer wanted his self-insert as a love interest and they had to yeet a relationship they spent an ENTIRE season building for that to happen.
But if I look at it with my Supercorp brain…
What is going on here ? Why are you looking at each other like that ? What the actual gay fuck is this ?
What. The. Fuck ?
(Believe me, Lena, she will fool you.)
(Side note : I had forgotten how little Katie McGrath is trying with her accent here. I thought it was something from later seasons, that at some point she'd just stopped caring, but she is truly making zero effort, my unbothered Irish queen 😭)
In the context of Supergirl, I am rarely a fan of Superman (by which I mean the whole dumping her at either the Danvers or an orphanage depending on the story), but I do still love him as a character and I especially love him in this episode and how excited Kara is to work with him.
Kara has a family here on Earth, but he is still one of the last living remnants of her home planet, and most of all he is one of very few people who can actually keep up with her, someone who is just as fast, just as strong, someone she can hug without breaking.
I love their team up in this episode, and I especially love how it doesn't take something away from Kara, how Clark is here almost as back up, as a sidekick, and she still has centre stage. I don't remember if they eventually discuss the whole abandoning her when she had no one else thing (I do not remember season 2 as well as I remember other seasons ^^) but I like to think he is trying to make it up to her in some way.
And this is something that will come to a head next episode when she says she wants to move to Metropolis with him and Alex is super not okay with that for obvious reason, but I love this little moment when Kara and Clark are discussing that man, and Alex is not so casually leaning in the background surveying the scene.
She may think Clark smells good (which is like, a whole thing…) but she doesn't want him to take her sister away.
There is not a lot of Alex in this episode but she really does shine when she is here (and I don't just mean she's really fucking handsome, which she is 😳).
I love her discussion with J'onn about Superman and Kryptonite (even though she did not seem to care much last season about how Kryptonite could hurt/kill her sister 🙄) and how she is always pushing to protect the people she loves, making sure Kara is okay, helping J'onn talk when she sees he's grumpy. And I sure do hope something happens very, very soon to make her realise it's okay to take care of herself too/put herself first !
We're losing Cat next episode (which I am not okay about) so I'm glad we got plenty of CatCo stuff in this episode in an attempt to make up for it (it will not work, I will miss her forever)
She works very well as comic relief this episode, her face (and Kara's) when she thinks Clark, Lois, and Superman are in an open relationship in which she might worm herself in is so fucking funny
But she isn't only that, and even though I'm sad we're losing her, they do build up her leaving quite well (unlike, you know, James and Kara's break up which was not apparently worthy of the same care 🙄), and she says something in this episode that is honestly one of my favourite line from this entire show, something I have genuinely considered getting a tattoo of, something I think about quite often.
In 👏 order👏 to 👏 live👏 we 👏 must👏 keep👏 daring👏
I almost had to pause the episode and go lie down when she said this.
And I still don't get how the fuck she thought Kara would make a good reporter when she met her but I'm happy that she's happy she was right 🤷
(The Five Stages of Grief Saga) Denial (Kara Danvers v. Natasha Romanoff)
Summary: The five stages of grief after losing a relationship that defined you in many ways. OR once upon a time, you were dating Natasha Romanoff but when her alcoholism became too much, it sent you on a journey to National City but now you find yourself coming back to New York for something you could've never planned for.
(All parts will be found on both Kara's masterlist and Natasha's masterlist).
Words: 2223
Warnings: Mentions of alcoholism, abuse, language, angst, major character death (not Kara, reader, or Natasha).
A/N: So this AU is gonna deal with some rough topics. It's a Marvel/DC crossover. There's gonna be talks of alcoholism, abusive behaviors, death, relapse, self-worth, etc. Just a fair warning across the board. This isn't gonna be a light, fluffy series.
Also, I am working on part 3 of the TPOLASK. Should be posted this week.
-X-
Kara: I had fun tonight :) it was wonderful. I hope you know I meant it when I said I care about you. You make me feel so special and I want to make you feel the same. Because you are.
Blushing at the heartfelt words, you combed your fingers through windswept hair as you stepped into the threshold of your apartment. There was something incredibly sincere about the blonde reporter who’d bumped into you – quite literally – on your second week in National City. It was both refreshing and terrifying, because while you had feelings for her—deep, genuine feelings that you didn’t know what to do with— your last relationship kept you paralyzed with fear and despite Kara’s insistence that she was willing to wait, you just felt… trapped.
Musician Age Gap AU Pt 4
Dropping Esme off at home turns into more than just a simple kiss and ride. She parks and walks Esme to the front door. The tears had petered out halfway home, but it had left Esme shaky and exhausted. And when Alex opens the door to welcome them home, she can barely get out a "how was it?" before Esme bursts into fresh tears and darts up the stairs to her bedroom.
Alex watches her daughter go, then turns back to Kara with an accusatory look. Kara sighs. "It's a long story."
"I'll put the kettle on."
My All Supergirls are in the Danvers Family tree head canon delusion
Kara and Linda are adoptive cousins. This why Kara goes by Linda Danvers and Kara Danvers. (I also head canon Kara is her legal middle name, which keeps it close to her, but spares her having to hear it constantly mispronounced plus she might hope an earth name will help her assimilate.)
Kara shows up to a Danvers family reunion gathering post-memory return and a stint as Lana’s niece Linda Lang but now back as Linda Kara Danvers with an elaborate back story as to what happened when she died. (Idk witness protection or some shit) Linda sarcastically calls her out when no one else is around, “We know that is bullshit; you really have to steal my name?” kara hugging her resisting the urge to fly into the sky no shame at all, “Had to honor the coolest earth girl I have ever met. Thanks for trying to save me. Guess it all worked out in the end”
Linda at some point tells Kara about Ariella and her deal with spectre. The two with the help of Twilight Mae manage to find her and pull her to the modern era.
Mae gets unfuses somehow and marries Linda.
Kara and Mae get mistaken for sisters all the time. People don’t believe they are only related via adoption and marriage. It makes Kara happy because it means she looks like Lana. Plus she has dealt with this with the recent Power Girl debacle.
Cir-El comes back somehow and gets adopted by her Aunt Mae and Linda making all Supergirls part of the Danvers family, connected to the Kent family via Mae.
Part 1 - Part 6 - Part 7 - Part 8
"Look, it's not like I didn't believe you, but woah", Winn said, gaping. Alex silently nodded in agreement.
"Thank you all for helping me", Lena smiled warmly, still a bit shy now that everyone suddenly saw her.
"Em, yeah, sorry, Lena, there is a catch", Winn winced, rubbing back of his head sheepishly. "We kinda can't hear you. Because you speak so quietly that only Kara's ears can catch it, so if I make you loud enough for us..."
Lena tilted her head, thinking for a bit. She signaled Kara to relay her words.
"But it's not like all sounds are deafening for Kara", it was strange to talk about herself like that, "So it means there is some biological adjustments for her hearing".
"Of course, but I didn't want fo experiment with something that could potentially end very bad".
Lena and Winn traded ideas back and forth, already creating precautions, when Alex interrupted them, looking amused.
"Sorry to stop you both from nerding out but J'onn said we can just talk in the red lamp room. It will solve all your problems, no?"
Two geniuses meekly nodded.
"This way, miss Luthor". J'onn smiled and gestured to the coridor.
/ / / / / / / / /
Winn (with Lena right behind his shoulder) inserted some new parameters into his tablet, once they settled in the red sun lamps' room. And when he nodded to Lena, she said tentatively:
"Thank you all for your help", she smiled.
"I'm glad to help fellow genius", Winn happily answered. "Now we just need to..."
"Find my body, yes", Alex and Winn winced. Kara stared at the floor, trying not to see Lena's face, as she was talking about it.
"Yes, that. But we need to do one very important thing first".
Everyone glanced at each other with confusion. J'onn seemed to know what's that already, but he still looked relaxed, so Kara and Alex just waited till Winn's desire for dramatics was satisfied.
"We need to introduce ourselves!" Lena laughed, and wobbled in the air a little. It seemed that being visible didn't take away her ghostly powers. And while Winn was listing all his accomplishments, Kara found herself thinking.
Lena looked much more real now. Even without her powers Kara could see tiny freckles lining up on the side of her neck. Red lamps gave her green eyes mysterious glow, making Lena look ephemeral in a way that didn't have anything with the her status of a ghost.
It pained Kara so much to see her like that. Like she would be soft and warm to the touch, like she could really hug Kara or pat her cheek, like they need to just save her and not to retrieve her body.
Still Kara couldn't help but reach out hoping against everything that the fact that everyone can see Lena meant she can touch her.
When her hand went right through the edge of Lena's jacket, Kara tried very hard to hide her disappointment, but she still caught J'onn's sympathetic smile.
"So... You are the woman my sister is seeing", Alex asked strictly, and Lena chocked on the words she exchanged with Winn.
"I- Well, technically... I guess I am..?" It was adorable to see Lena suddenly fumbling with words, and Kara decided to play the knight despite her own embarrassment.
"Alex", she shook her head, exasperated. "Don't mess with Lena".
"What? She is," Alex shrugged, but finally smiled. "It's not like I said anything wrong. And here you are, already nagging me".
"This is Agent Danvers, Supergirl's foster sister", J'onn intervened, when Kara opened her mouth to bicker. "We are currently in DEO, department of extra-normal operations. And I am its Director - J'onn J'onzz."
"It's good to meet you, sir", Lena nodded.
"Likewise. I promise, that DEO will do everything to secure your body and will protect it until we can hand it over to miss Arias".
"I... appreciate it."
Room grew somber. When Winn's tablet chimed, he scattered to read it, if only to avoid awkward atmosphere.
"Miss Arias send us the information".
"It was fast", Alex said, already scanning the data from behind his shoulder.
"Well, she had a password. I will put it over our map".
They gathered around small tablet, looking at the area north of National city. Lena's coordinats, the green dot on the screen, was constantly changing as the map adjusted, only to stop right above the red mark.
"It's a Cadmus base", J'onn said grimly and stood up, already giving out commands to the agents by his communication device.
"This one is Lilian Luthor's", Alex sighed and joined her director in getting ready. They didn't seem hurried, since they will have to wait until Kara restores her powers.
"I guess she's one of my relatives?" Lena asked carefully.
"Your adoptive mother, to be precise", Winn was already putting dossier up front.
He started to recount his files to Lena, but Kara, tense after mention of Cadmus and as attuned to Lena as she is, felt that something was wrong.
Lena was pale. She always had a bit of white hue when Kara was the only one to see her, but now even with Winn's invention she was almost transperent.
"It's her. This is the woman I talked with, when my car crushed". Lena's voice was detached and angry, her hands clenched. When she turned to look at Kara, her voice cracked in the middle. "She wanted to kill me".
