I cant believe I've never seen a kara in Vegas fic, just eating her heart away in the all you can eat buffets, horrifying the establishment and then getting kicked out and being like oh look gambling places maybe they have food there
Except--shes a kryptonian and probably the greatest math genius alive on earth (I said what I said) and doesnt know.....that things like counting cards and predicting where the ball on the roulette table will land bc physics......Bad. bad things can happen there.
Except, shes also a Kryptonian and so she cant get hurt....but the casino shouldnt know that.
Basically I want the story of 21 year old Kara getting kicked out of Vegas and then flash forward more than 5 years later and theres an alien/story in Vegas--something that requires her presence as Kara Danvers--and she has to explain to everyone the time she got kicked out of all of Vegas.....including Alex. Who she didnt know how to tell. Whoops?
Three by One - fic rec: silverwriter01 (Kalex)
In this Kalex (Kara/Alex, romantic; Supergirl) femslash fanfiction recommendation, I have collected 3 excellent stories from silverwriter01 (@silverwriter01 on tumblr) in the third installment of Three by One: 3 stories, 1 fandom, 1 ship, 1 of my favorite authors.
Short Kalex disclaimer: Kalex (Alex/Kara) means that Kara and Alex have a romantic relationship. They are not biological siblings. Some Kalex authors have used the following terms which describe this: pseudo-incest, adopted sibling relationship or not really incest if one is an alien. As always: don't read what you do not like and ship and let ship.
While the three stories are not labeled and advertised as a trilogy and are not related to each other, I feel they work well as a trilogy and I would recommend reading them in the order they were written.
Every canon divergent story starts with a big âwhat if ...â.
What if the reason Kara never fell in love with Alex could be removed?
What if Kara came back from a mission with her memory messed up, believing Alex to be her lover?
What if Alex inadvertently managed to get Kara pregnant?

Danvers Sisters and Hogwarts Houses
 or
The problem with Hufflepuff!Kara and Ravenclaw!Alex
In the grand scheme of fan-discourse, headcanons about each characterâs House alignment fall fairly low on the scale of importance, but due to the sheer frequency of such references, it might be necessary to shine light on a few problems in recent trends.
To preface, some headcanons are very creator-specific, and lend the creator to use their own House for one of their favorite characters as a way to strengthen the connection they feel to them, and thatâs a perfectly fine and reasonable practice. This argument doesnât call those instances into question, nor does it seek to invalidate those who want to continue to use such alignments for those reasons.
Beyond those instances, though, and using straight character traits to sort Kara and Alex into the houses best suited for them, Kara is Gryffindor, and Alex is Slytherin. To put them in Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff is to ignore fundamental parts of each of their characters.
Now, there is a want to subvert the âmain twoâ Houses when it comes to sorting, given that Gryffindor and Slytherin did get so much attention within the HP franchise, but the problem with trying to do that, is that you end up being disingenuous to your own assessment of each character.
This is largely because the bias that lead to such over-exposure in HP, is based in the same tropes that lead most main characters (heroes and villains alike) to more genuinely fit each of those two houses over the other Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. Gryffindor and Slytherin embody all of the classic protagonist/antagonist character traits, which leads to a lot more fictional characters skewing in their direction than youâd see in a data-set of the real-life fansâ House-alignments.
And that is a frustrating thing to accept, if youâre trying to breathe originality into your headcanons, but the truth is, the ways Kara fits Hufflepuff, and Alex fits Ravenclaw, are only parts of who they are, and - canonically - we see them flounder when they ignore those other parts of themselves.
Alex acting only to her Ravenclaw nature lead to her burning out and falling into academic suspension, because there was no other outlet for her to let the other parts of herself flourish.
Kara acting only to her Hufflepuff nature lead to her feeling closed off and shut down because she had all those powers that she felt she shouldâve been using to help people.
This doesnât mean that true-blue Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs fall short in these regards. But it does mean that true-blue Gryffindors and Slytherins who try to act against their nature do fall short.
Itâs the values of each House that hold this in stark contrast.
Gryffindor: Do what is right.
Hufflepuff: Do what is kind.
Ravenclaw: Do what is wise.
Slytherin: Do what is necessary.
And while there may be a lot of cross-over, which one strikes hardest for each of them?
Kind as she is, Karaâs core lies in doing whatâs right.
And smart as she is, Alex does whatâs necessary.
Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw are great houses, and they work exceptionally well for people who embody their values.
But great as they are, theyâre just not where Alex and Kara flourish best.
3x01
I see a lot of criticism about Kara in 3x01, but no one mentions how Alex minimizes Karaâs pain by calling it a âpity party.â
Kara is going through complicated grief, or maybe realistically a depressive episode triggered by the loss of Mon-el. The episode was subtly showing us Karaâs pain is not just about Mon-el.
One of the worst things you can do to a person who is sad, and depressed, for an extended period of time is get mad at them and call what they feel a âpity party.â
This comes from a person with MDD, and has had friends basically tell me the same thing after my MDD wasnât cured after months of trying different meds. So, of course, with Kara hurting already, and then having that thrown at her, she would lose her temper with Alex.
