This Minecraft wheelchair mod!

It adds wheelchairs, walkers, rollators, crutches, canes and more! They are all customisible and easy to acquire early game!

There is even a way to put a sword in your cane, and extra storage in your wheelchair! The latter reminds us of our backpack on our actual chair! And you can add a floating or diving upgrade to your chair, so exploration is easier! You can lock dismount too, so you can actually crouch while using the wheelchair!

And the models are so pretty! We got a wheelchair with copper wheels, a teal seat and a spruce frame, and a spruce cane with a copper handle!

We highly recommend it to any disabled Minecraft players!

How I can pimp my wheelchair? I am wanting to decorate for a long time but I am unsure. Someone has any easy decorate recs?

Yass! We love decorated mobility aids!

Stickers and vinyl wrap on the frame, or adding patches and pins to the back are probably the easiest, but there's definitely more options than that!

Check out the #mobility aid decorations tag for heaps of inspiration but here are a few of the more creative ideas this blog has seen...

Use hula hoop tape on the frame like this

Maybe you could wrap parts of the frame in fabric like this or this (both rollators but the posts might inspire you). Or maybe you could recover the seat back with fabric?

If you can knit or crochet or know someone who does, you could cover parts of the frame like this person did with their cane. Or like this.

Or make wheel covers like this wheelchair user!

Or take inspiration from this person's crocheted cane handle cover and make/get something made for your armrests or push handles?

You could add faux foliage like this person did on their rollator.

If you're into painting, take inspiration from this person's painted rollator seat; if you have side guards, maybe you could paint a design on those?

Maybe you have something you'd like to hang from the push handles or arm rest like kandi, beads, a plushie, or a keychain?

Also, I see a lot of people getting spoke covers for the wheel spokes. If you have the type of wheels that have thin metal spokes, you can do what I did and buy spoke covers that are sold for bike wheels. They come in a bunch of colours and if you search online, there should be a few places to buy them. I found it was a bit hard on my hands getting them on (fiddly and a tad painful) but I'm really happy to now have purple and yellow spokes!

hey, i'd like to share this pixel art piece i created to put on the currently popular pixel-drawing-on-the-world-map site! sadly the moderation there is terrible so it might not stay for long, so i'm hoping it could get preserved here, on the blog that inspired it? :")

(obligatory rambling, i kinda fumbled the wheelchair construction, but it's a low enough resolution you can't exactly tell what's going on there anyway i think..? and the disability pride colors aren't exactly right - gray instead of white - due to limitations of the medium)

Those who use/have used both crutches and a rollator, how do they compare for you? I currently use forearm crutches whenever I leave my dorm building for pain and energy and they help quite a bit when walking, but I still really struggle with standing in one place, or finding a spot to sit when I need to stop walking for a bit. So I've been thinking about trying a rollator to be able to sit down anywhere, but I'm not sure how it'd compare to the crutches for when I'm actively walking or whether the extra bulk would be worth it. I know ultimately it's an individual thing and the only way to know for sure is to try it, but I want to try to gather a bit more information first.

Do you have any tips for how to decorate a cane? A friend suggested anodizing it, cause it's aluminium, and that could be fun but I also like. Don't know how to do that.

Yes I do! I know nothing about anodizing but...

Stickers are possibly the easiest and the most common. I recommend putting clear tape over them once they're all stuck on so they don't peel off.

Check out this post by @bebsi-cola where they point out bike frame stickers are probably best suited to canes and crutches.

Some people use glow-in-the-dark stickers.

You can cut vinyl or duraseal and stick it on. A cricut tool can be handy here; some libraries have them if you don't want to buy one.

If you have the ability and patience, drawing (vivids/permanent pens) or painting (there are specific paints made for metal and I've seen nail polish recommended) like this.

Don't stop at the main stick part; hang something from the top/handle like kandi, a plushie, a fancy strap, or a picture like this or like this.

Improvised aids my beloved. Exercise monitors used for everyday heart/blood pressure monitoring. Hiking sticks as a mobility aid. Text to speech as AAC. If it's safe go for it, we make the best of what we've got.

Definitely! Aids and assistive tech can be expensive so it's always ok to try an improvised version (as long as it's safe)!

What other improvisation/substitute ideas have people got?

So, it's not an aid for a physical disability, but I have trichotillomania, and the main aid I use is actually beanies! They block off my hair, so I can't pull from my preferred spots, and as a bonus, they hide any bald spots!

It's maybe not a physical disability but I'm still counting this as aid positivity!
