Not Requested, just another flicker of inspiration about Dapper Septiceye (or Jameson as I’m told his name is?)
You’ve never seen facial expressions so loud before. It didn’t make sense in your head, but Jameson made a concerned frown and frightened gaze seem like a scream of terror.
His hands whirled in panicked gestures of Sign as he tried to portray his words to you. It was all too fast, and you were still learning, and Jameson being so wild was making you uneasy. He was never so on edge.
You caught his flying hands in yours, gripping his wrists tightly, but gently, as you tried to calm him.
“Jameson, slow down. What’s wrong?”
The next facial expression cried ‘are you serious?’ and you arched an eyebrow. You really had no idea why he was acting like this.
Jameson huffed an irritated breath and stormed off, only to return with the small white-board he uses to communicate.
He hurriedly scribbled words onto the board and spun it round for you to read.
‘You can’t go to the Iplier Manor! It’s dangerous. Imagine how Anti will react when he finds out!’
You rolled your eyes and looked back up to Jameson. Who had a very serious face staring back at you.
“I’m not going into the Iplier Manor. I’m just picking up Yan to take him to the train station. No one else is-”
Jameson whirled the board around and used a handkerchief from his pocket to wipe the board down and write his reply. Spinning it around and tapping the board rapidly with the pen to better enhance the urgency of the words. Which were all capitals and rapidly over-lined to make them look bold.
‘DARK IS LOOKING FOR A WAY TO GET AT ANTI!’
It was your time to huff irritably. Crossing your arms and glaring up at Jameson, who wiped down the board and readied himself to reply to whatever you’re about to say.
“Dark won’t use me to get at Anti. They’re not mob bosses. Those two are just children-”
‘Dangerous children.’ Jameson cut you off with another series of loud tapping. You can never get use to how quickly Jameson wrote on that board.
“Whatever. Yan is a friend. We’ve known each other well before I met any of the Septics. He wouldn’t just turn on me because Dark needs a hostage. I’m done discussing this, J. I’m leaving.”
Jameson shook his head feverishly, lashing out and grabbing your elbow. Tugging you away from the door. You spun around with another frustrated huff as Jameson cleaned his board and scribbled again. But this time, Jameson gestured for you to speak it out-loud. He had you do this so he knew when you had finished reading and could continue writing.
“At least take Jackie with you. Please? I’m scared for you.” You looked up at Jameson as he smiled a sad grin and wiped down his board again. “You may trust the Ipliers not to touch you, but we’ve all been around longer.” Jameson wiped down the board and this time he couldn’t look you in the eye as he turned the board around. “I’ve heard the stories Anti has told about Dark. And about Wilford. How people have disappeared around them.”
At the last bit of writing, Jameson’s bottom lip quivered a little. “I don’t want you to be caught in their war.”
You felt horrible. Jameson was still new, but every ego went through a “Catch Up Class” that basically had them look through almost every piece of media that involved the egos.
Videos, pieces of writing, artwork and most importantly; informative files collected by the egos about one another. Jameson had only recently gone through these classes, and Anti had no doubt given him a serious talk about the hate between him and the famous Iplier. Jameson wasn’t much of a fighter, he much preferred to help around the house or keep to himself.
Simply because he was terrified of all this new information. He had no experience with the Ipliers, and knowing you were basically going up to their doorstep, was the scariest thing he had learnt in his existence.
You reached out and took Jameson’s hand. Squeezing it reassuringly as he lowered the board. Silently pleading for you not to go.
“It’ll be ok, J. I promise. Yan, despite his low audience attention, is one of the more.... respected egos in the Manor. Even if Dark tries to use me, Yan’s not gonna let something bad happen. I’ll be fine.”
Jameson tried to hold onto your hand, but you managed to slip out of his fingers before he got a good grip.
“I’ll be back in an hour, ok? If I don’t come back by two o’clock, send the cavalry.” You half joked as you stepped out of the house. Waving a farewell to Jameson as you hurried to your car.
The ego plucked his pocket-watch from his coat and looked at it.
It was currently 12:45.
You said you’d be back in an hour. But you were giving yourself two hours before Jameson started breaking things to get someones attention.
Jameson didn’t like that. A lot of things could happen in two hours.
Tucking the board under his arm, Jameson went to sit by the window that over looked the front lawn. He caught a glimpse of you up the street, turning into traffic to start your journey.
He settled back in the chair and placed his watch on the arm, the clock-face turned to him so he could count down every second pass by.
In his mind, he prayed for you to come home safely.
