Sometime last week, we got invited by Pasaraya to celebrate its food. I don't know if you know this, but the mall apparently has a vast variety of food options and is even expanding further. We got invited along with a few more Jakarta bloggers and got to tour the restaurant options at Pasaraya. Although the pictures that we posted on our Instagram page show so little, the pictures that you're about to see here will showcase you much more on what the mall has to offer.
Let's start off with Dapuraya:
Dapuraya initially operated as just your typical canteen; however, after taking the entrepreneurial decision of incorporating more Indonesian food and associating itself with some of Indonesia's notable street food vendors, it changed its image to a much more interesting food court.
The style of the location itself is like outdoors indoors, so you sort of get the essence of Indonesia's street food, but of course in a cleaner, more convenient way. We personally love this kind of design, because it adds great character to the venue.
When we toured the area, we were also told that some of the vendors that they incorporated within the food court were warung owners that were already known. For instance, the man in the picture above has been selling satay for decades! We also met some vendors who have notable warungs back in Bandung.
A restaurant that Tasteritos was specifically asked to try was Tokyo House:
Tokyo House offers a very intimate setting, ideal for lunch between work hours. The restaurant serves common fusion Japanese food that everyone always love to eat, such as the volcano sushi (below) and the salmon teriyaki (below below). Despite being placed right by Dapuraya, Tokyo House feels quite secluded, making it an ideal place for a quiet lunch or a quick meeting. If you are planning to eat here alone, a seat by the bar is also an interesting way to dine and converse with the cook. What's more? The restaurant also offers an all-you-can-eat sushi deal daily from 2PM to 5PM!
Another one that Tasteritos tried was Café des Artiste:
This café is located just a few stories above Dapuraya and Tokyo House. It has an open, airy space that offers a great venue for working/studying/meeting. With great windows just adjacent to the café, the restaurant also offers great view for its visitors. Café des Artiste also serves a full menu and, of course, coffee.
We had the opportunity to converse with one of the chefs at the restaurant and were told about the inspiration of and history behind the cafe. Basically, the owners were really satisfied with a café that he visited in Europe, that he decided to name his own restaurant after the place.
Lunching with several Jakarta bloggers and the Pasaraya team.
Looking ahead, Pasaraya aims to bring in more independent restaurants into its mix and offering more modern food. We could definitely see the potential change in the mall, as we noticed many interesting vendors and cafés (other than the restaurants mentioned above), such as this coffee bar right next to Tokyo House and others. This is something that we are interested in checking in the future!
So there you have it, our lunch at Pasaraya. Before we end this, we would just like to say thank you to the Pasaraya team who has invited us to this lovely lunch! We cannot wait to revisit soon!
