I wish I had the nerve to continue exploring this area but there were railroad employees I had to keep avoiding while I was here. I did manage to check out the line of old railroad cars in the left background but I didn’t get the shots I had hoped for, nor could I approach the old mill buildings.

Thanks. Upon returning home and seeing the shots--and I took quite a few--I was disappointed at most of what I saw. After all, this was a great old abandoned (well, nearly, as one of the locals described) through-truss bridge with two sets of tracks that split just past the bridge, sending spurs in opposite directions over the river. So visually appealing...

For those who might be interested, there was a roundhouse close to the westernmost side of the bridge, demolished long ago, but the site has concrete pads that are still visible.

On the opposite site of the bridge, the tracks for the southern spur have been removed, leaving a nice flat bed perfect for walking or biking.

The gentleman I spoke with claimed there were plans for a trail along the unused portion. He also told me about individuals who had jumped and were thrown from the bridge into the river. It’s not surprising in the least, considering the economy of the area and the easy access.

I would love to return and spend more time here.
