Daria in a Coffee Shop
I hypothesize that the sardonic writer is editing a fiction anthology series she started sophomore year of college as an extra curricular and to earn a grant. It’s current applicants include Diane Nyguen, Meg Griffin, Summer Smith, and Thalia Gupty.
It all started as a post I made to Ritual Tea and Coffee suggesting a Daria fanclub night, and then I just had to animate it. I think this might be the best Daria I’ve ever drawn.
I am so not here for this. Besides the fact that it's going to be the latest "woke" mess of a reboot (eg. making it less "white" by replacing Jane with Jodie), Daria was very much a product of its time. It perfectly encapsulated Xennial and late 90s teenagehood. It just won't translate well to the modern era. And can't my age group have anything to ourselves? This was our show, dammit.
EDIT: and I actually really like Jodie. She was an interesting character. However, instead of outright replacing Jane as Daria's confidant, why not just give her a larger role? Make Daria, Jane and Jodie into a trio?
There's also the fact that the characters already graduated from high school and attended separate colleges. Is that going to be erased now?
If Daria isn't sapphic and dating Jane or Jodie in this new reboot, what is the point?
I swear to FUCK if they turn Daria into an SJW.... -_-
About that Daria Reboot
Apparently, there is going to be a reboot on the Daria-series and since I have nowhere else to express my feelings about it I’m going to do it here.
It doesn’t bother me per se that Jodie is going to be the second main character as I always thought she had some interesting takes on race-relations, what it means to be successful and about the future. And from a merely narrative point of view, it could actually be justified a lot better, that Daria would get to know Jodie instead of Jane.
However, the friendship Daria and Jane shared was just so compelling. How they worked out their differences, how they shared a similar outlook on their school and even society as a whole. I honestly doubt that Jodie could ‘substitute’ for Jane because Jodie is literally the exact opposite to what Daria and Jane stand for to a point, where I don’t think they would get along well. Or it would be really hard for the show creators to actually make it work. If they’re able to, well kudos to them, but right now it actually seems a lot more that, they’re just race-baiting in an already overheated political climate.
We’ll see though and hopefully, the reboot gets good
if i was in charge of the Daria reboot it would go like this
