Dolly Parton is one of those truly fascinating women that should be respected and perhaps a little fear for her ability to misdirect. The glitzy costumes, blonde wigs and big hair hide a massive intelligence, want to give back and make life better for others and a business-savvy few performers seem to be permitted to use. This book does well to balance her facets. Mentioning in the Imagination Library which I suggest all people look at even if just for recommendations of what to buy the young child in your life. I appreciate the writing purely for the ability to go beyond what Dolly Parton is traditionally famed for. Though covid definitely made her philanthropic endeavours much more widely known.

Dolly Parton is virtually the only one of these books that I've read that had something consistently in every illustration. In this case pink butterflies. I really don't understand the butterflies and Dolly but I'm guessing there is one. Or it is possible that Daria Solak is one of the few specialist children picture storybook illustrators who've illustrated for the series. That sort of find this, adults asking "can you find the butterfly?" is stereotypical of picture storybooks aimed at younger readers in my experience. The art is cute and not as glitz and big as I maybe expected. But I'm happy with it. Dolly Parton is one of those rare people that you can walk past on the street without knowing who she was if she wasn't in her famous stage costume. At heart, she is still that girl from East Tennessee and the illustrations reflect that.
