I don’t know if you have noticed, but it seems like it is getting more and more tense lately. (note sarcasm). I am going to be 44 years old next month, and I honestly can’t remember a time where it has been as tense as it seems like these days.
Don’t misunderstand……I’m including myself in this group. It seems like things are more difficult than they used to be for some reason. I laughed at myself last weekend when I thought about what had happened-this is a perfect example of what I mean by this.
I often wear a baseball cap on the weekend-I know it drives my family crazy but I love it and can’t help myself. For some reason, I find this one of the most liberating things to do -in a way it makes me feel like a kid again because there is no makeup, no hair dryers, ……….just simple.
I have now collected an array of hats since this represents one day of my wardrobe each week. My favorite cap says “Half full”, based on the saying that you either think of life as half full or half empty.
Last weekend, I went to grab my hat and hesitated because I felt like a phony. I didn’t feel “half full” that day. I really felt half empty. I hesitated and then decided to wear another cap.
This same weekend I went out with my Mom for lunch at a local chain restaurant. We were laughing on our way to the car and she went to the passenger side and I was getting in to drive. Just as I approached my door, a very mild mannered woman looked at me and out of nowhere said, “Is the service really bad in there?”.
My point is we have to lighten up a bit. Yea, it’s been a little tougher than usual right now. But, we are still pretty spoiled. Life is pretty darn good and you have to have ups and downs, otherwise there would be no contrast to know when things are good. To be your “Personal Best” you also have to be grateful for the things that are going well-it’s easy to look at the glass as half empty because it is effortless. It takes some work sometimes to see the glass as half full. I am determined to wear my half full cap this weekend and mean it.
This week’s show is just about this-a positive film that talks about bringing out the best in yourself. Darin Beckstead joins us to talk about his film “Somebody’s Hero”. It’s a great independent film that definitely depicts how someone decided to be their Personal Best.
Here’s the trailer of the film due out on June 17:
