Every time there is a poll, I think about how much you all will hate me as I choose the most basic answer.
Book photo challenge day 1 Daring adventures
Great googley moogley, Green Lama! That guy's not only not wearing pants, he's going commando as well!
Despite the redesigned, very generic costume, this comic does indeed feature the Green Lama, star of pulp magazines, radio, and comic books back in the 1940s.
Daring Adventures was one of many comic books published by I.W. Publications during 1958, and again between 1963-1964, although then under the Super Comics label. The comics were filled with unauthorized reprints of stories from almost three dozen different comic book publishers, most of which were defunct.
I.W. Publications owner, Israel Waldman, bought printing plates used by the other companies, but didn't bother with intellectual property rights. He reused the plates in order to cheaply publish new comics, without the burden of having to pay all the people (writers, artists, editors, letterers, colorists) to produce the stories.
Some artists were hired, like Ross Andru above, to produce new covers, usually featuring heroes wearing costumes that looked nothing like their own, and scenes that appeared nowhere in the book.
I.W. Publications/Super Comics also had an issue numbering system that made no sense. Of the 118 distinct titles it published, most only had one issue. Daring Adventures, shown above, only had 9 issues, although the cover states this issue is #17.
