Damon sat quietly alone in his parlor as he stared at his bourbon neat. He was alone as always, and even forgotten. At least him being a vampire…how long had it been since his region had presented hopeful brides? His last bride had been killed in the fifties and he was slowly forgotten.

He hadn’t wanted to leave his home for fear of being attacked himself. And he allowed the region to forget him. His existence…and his…condition.

He frowned suddenly as he heard the sounds of tires on gravel. It had been some time since anyone ventured far enough to find his estate. He moved to the window, seeing a rickety car approaching.

When it stopped, a harsh woman stepped out and all but dragged another, younger woman from the car. He wondered if they were lost…
