More Sherlock Holmes Audio

@neco117 recently reminded me — while @iwantthatbelstaffanditsoccupant asked me for favourites — that I know and love and basically daily listen to Sherlock Holmes in audio form (books and plays). Every week — mostly on Friday — there are multiple new releases on streaming platforms (not counting because urgh the AI bullshit).

The following are some personal favourites:

Sherlock Holmes: Baker Street

Full-cast production, Mix of Canon cases as well as pastiche (personally, I prefer the latter). The voice actor of SpongeBob is Lestrade, it’s epic. Big on atmosphere and sometimes dark-ish Try out: Das Porzellanzimmer.

Sherlock Holmes: Untold

Well, it’s a mixed bag. It’s basically a Sherlock Holmes multiverse with this being a spin-off of a canon series which features Moriarty from the beginning and playing fast and loose with ACD and Victorian era (for me, it’s overdone, and the voice actors of Holmes and Watson are not my cuppa). There’s going to be a Sherlock Holmes: International and supernatural-series soon-ish too. More than 100 episodes avaible. The Untold is a pastiche series, all stand-alones, and some are bangers. Mord im Türkischen Bad, so juicy.

Dark Holmes

You have to accept that Klößchen is Holmes (voice actor). And that he is a drug addict and has severe mental issues. And that his love of his life is a female prostitute. It’s not really a dark Holmes but more a dark pastiche which features a Holmes as a US police officer and Watson as his therapist. It’s not Elementary, it’s more ACAB including Holmes. Two series avaible, try it. And even only to hear what a range Sherlock Holmes audio has (same production created Die drei Senioren btw).

To sum it up: we have everything. You want Canon aroace Holmes? Die Abenteuer des jungen Sherlock Holmes. We have Sherlock Is Back. All the crossovers and multiverse (im) possible: Irene Adler, Moriarty, Frankenstein, Poe, Oscar Wilde… all with or without Sherlock Holmes in dunno how many episodes. We have Arthur Conan Doyle (Tatort Münster Axel Prahl!) narrating/presenting pastiches (the one in The Highlands <3 but they are all bangers!).

What I’m asking myself while the air date of CBS WATSON comes closer: Will it be more like HOUSE M. D. or DARK HOLMES? Or ELEMENTARY? Or all of three or something else (new) all together?

Sherlock Holmes goes contemporary?

He’s a Leutnant in Dallas (USA???), suspected of murder.

Apparently, he’s got a drug problem and regular contact with prostitutes?

Oh, and Lestrade is a woman, and his partner, because Sherlock hasn’t met Dr Watson yet.

I’ve got SO MANY questions. And it ought to be in a Netflix mini series style, „so you cannot stop to binge it.“

So... I am actually really interested in this new audio drama. Contendo usually knows how to tell stories but I am curious what they will go with in this new series. Give me an unhinged, evil Holmes as long as it's something new and entertaining. Some people say that the German market is too full with Holmes but I gladly take every new Holmes media.
