Vid Recs Meme: vid(s) of my own
I've had fun revisiting lovely vids all month, so thank you very much for following along! The last prompt on the meme is to recommend a vid of my own. I've got 35 vids on AO3 at the moment, so I'm just going to pick five that I'm particularly proud of or pleased with.
Edward Hardwicke has been my favorite Watson since I first encountered him at the age of 10, but I'd never seen any vid devoted to him or the particular qualities he brought to his partnership with Jeremy Brett. So here's a small tribute to what these two created onscreen (AO3 link):
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As part of Holmestice, I've done a number of multiverse Holmesian vids, most of them very joyous and silly. However, sometimes you find the perfect song for grief, so here is Reichenbach in quadruplicate (AO3 link):
~~~~~~~~~~~~
And after that, here's a palette cleanser as ebullient and silly as I could make it! (AO3 link):
~~~~~~~~~~
I liked the fairytale feeling and sound of this song -- facing impossible task after impossible task, exhausted but still dreaming about one day finding peace with the one you love. Neither the song nor the show ultimately fulfilled that hope, but it did offer them both their own moments of truth, and therein lay the beauty. In general I appreciated the way the song invited an eye towards the lovely images sprinkled throughout a show where it would be easy to focus on the horror instead (AO3 link):
Last one, hmmm. How about Peter and Harriet, the slow building of trust, and a triumphant counterpoint? (AO3 link):
From the opening credits for the 1982 BBC adaptation.
Ok ok, so while I was stuck on the couch, at some point I decided to finally watch Sherlock Holmes and the Masks of Death (Peter Cushing and John Mills).
There was so much I loved about it: Watson reminding Holmes to stop biting his nails, IRENE ADLER, the fight on the train, the pig hazmat suits...
But please, please, someone explain to me how we got from sweet-Holmes in the beginning (left) to can't-keep-his-hands-off-Watson's-neck-Holmes in the latter half (right)
Holmes, bra, please.... have some chill... 😂😭
small Sherlock Holmes ask meme
I'm bored and need more Holmes content, so I'm making this ask list for anyone who wants it. Send whoever reblogs this an ask with the numbers you want them to answer! Or send me an ask, heh :p
2. Favourite Canon story/scene?
3. Least favourite aspect of the Canon/aspect of the Canon you'd improve if you could?
4. Favourite secondary character?
5. Most hated secondary character?
7. If you had unlimited money and creative freedom, what kind of adaptation/related narrative would you create? Be as vague or specific as you like.
8. Ships and friendships that are not between Holmes and Watson - are you invested in any?
9. A Sherlock Holmes-related thing you'd like to own?
10. A random headcanon you have?
Change: Genderqueering Holmes Monthly Prompts by @jeremys-come-to-bed-eyes
Prompt: Family.
Synopsis: A blackmailer delivers Watson's birth certificate to the girl of his dreams: Mary Morstan.
...
His heart almost stopped when he noticed that Mary was standing in the middle of the room and between her delicate hands lay the cursed letter.
He had arrived too late.
Now she knew.
He was a fool and a liar! By underestimating the matter by believing that he could solve it on his own wat, and also stupidly by believing that he didn't need to involve Holmes in the blackmail matter just because he didn't want to waste the time of his friend but those concerns now seemed useless compared to what would happen now.
The end of everything, his existence about to be disowned by the woman he secretly love. He had never had any illusions that he could court her properly or have a proper courtship with Miss Morstan but he was happy to be her friend. To be her prince charming in the beautiful kingdom of dreams and impossibilities.
"I'm not surprised you're here" say her.
"..."
Mary made a small gesture of displeasure when she turned to see him and crumpled the page.
"It's really outrageous... -and listening to her, Watson's heart broke a little- that someone would do this to you! It's a very serious offense!"
And then Watson felt very confused.
"It's illegal, right? It must be illegal! -and she looked really upset- What has Mr. Holmes told you about this, have you told him right? Is there anything we can do?"
He didn't know how to respond and it was when she saw his anguished expression that she realized Watson needed a moment.
"Do you know what it said there? What that means"
Mary arched her eyebrows and looked at him with some amusement as if she say "I can read! you know?" But when she noticed the little gleam of fear and hope in the doctor's blue eyes, and she knew that he needed a firmer answer.
"Yes. That someone misspelled your name a long time ago and maybe some other things... but that's not the important thing right now, the important thing is that someone is trying to cause you troubles! Please be honest and tell me if you are in serious danger. You helped me once and I would love to return the favor."
Watson not for the first time in his fleeting encounters with Miss Morstan wished to kiss her. Lucky for him she would be his wife and his family in the great future that was waiting them.
...
This has sense? No
But I have fun writing it? Hell yes, sooo
