Dark-on-light vs. light-on-dark text schemes on the web

Personally, I find light-on-dark far more easier to read when I’m reading paragraphs of text (for example, fanfics or articles). When I encounter gobs of text as dark-on-light (usually five or more lines), I find myself scanning more often. However, not everyone has the same the same vision issues.

And I recall in a college class, that I took a year or so before I graduated, that we talked about this issue and one of my peers made a comment that they felt like designing for one disability resulted in a design that caused someone with a different disability to find it difficult to use a site.

This is why I am a fan of fanfiction.net allowing me to switch between which style I want.
