Wain Stones
Early December morning walk to Lud’s Church in the Staffordshire Peak District. Plenty of frost, blue skies and icicles in the gorge.
Lud’s church was supposedly a meeting place for Lollards in the 15th century. They used to come here to worship, which was quite dedicated of them, I must say.
Perhaps it is also the setting for Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. At this remove, who knows, but I choose to believe the story was written down by a monk at Dieulacres Abbey and indeed based around the beautiful, local countryside with its ancient woodlands, sweeping moors and mysterious gorges and caves.

Higger Tor Sunrise James Grant
“I very rarely visit places like Higger Tor, often preferring to spend a little more time walking to a location but I actually had 3 attempts in a week to shoot Higger Tor at sunrise...As they say, third time lucky and I was greeted by a deep frost coating the gritstone rocks which was absolutely perfect...I didn't actually hang around long but I hadn't shot the kitkat stones before so this was my main priority...After shooting them, I spent a little time exploring alternative compositions and liked these frost covered rocks pointing out to the rising sun.”
