Warm up sketch of God’s Best Girl Pit from @qwrite ‘s incredible fic “In Pursuit” which you should absolutely go read right now. Also did you know carnations are associated with both motherhood and grief?
I hope even this little sketch did her justice. I want to draw all those silly birds so I’m starting with Pit and next is Mallet
I was reminded of how ass the Dark Rangers from MMPR season 2 were, and it made me think “what if we got real Dark Rangers that didn’t look like crap?”
So, the idea I had was that what we saw was kind of their “larval form” so to speak as the Green Crystal was draining Tommy’s powers, meaning that design was kind of the base of these. And, honestly, it wouldn’t have been hard to just make their actual designs look cool in a drawing—it’s largely how cheaply they made the suits that made it look so bad. Still, I wanted to add a little flair. Since they were drawing from Tommy’s powers, I wanted them all to end up with a variation on his shield, but I made it look more like Zedd’s putties (given the original suits were just putty suits recolored and with the vest removed, it kind of works with the history) but with the gold of the Dragon Shield since that makes it look special. They didn’t have any helmets in the original, which looked… just terrible and doesn’t fit any kind of Ranger team, especially an evil one. So I went with a design similar to the Dairanger helmets (with Black having Green’s of course), which I felt fit since this was season 2 and the Zords were Dairanger’s. I also thought it would be kinda boss for this alternate timeline to spur Zordon to get Tommy the White Ranger powers to help fight the Dark Rangers who would overwhelm the team, which would make it more thematic to have Tommy’s new suit look more like Dairanger, as well. I also changed the bottom half a bit to look more like the Psycho Ranger “mouth” because I like it. The coloring of the helmets was mostly to make them more obviously “dark” as well as mimicking the red eyes and mouths of the original sock mask things they had. The weapons are also based on Dairanger’s, though again with a little creative liberty.

My top 3 WoW fics on AO3 are all about my dark ranger Soranar. I'm not complaining, he may be the most perfect oc I've ever made. Ironically they're in chronological order too
