For Neither Ever, Nor Never.. Goodbye! (Dark Review)
How was your journey through the triquetra worlds and not to mention the years; starting from 2019, and then flying back and forth repeatedly would have been a nice mental exercise? Or was it all a cause for your weary bewilderment?
Don't you think that leaving your mind strangled was one of the objectives of the show? I feel that the more difficult and sophisticated to be understood by a typical person, (assuming you are a non - Sheldon) the more successful and proclaimed will be the science fiction. I enjoyed it, kudos to the director and the crew who perfectly staged a unique sci-fi - drama, dense with mysteries everywhere and perplexing characters.
Every character on the show carried the same amount of gravity as that of the protagonists. Who I feel are Jonas (aka Adam), Martha (aka Eva), and Claudia (the puzzle decoder). Blended with numerous time travellers and arduous events, yet the series consists of zero flaws in chronology. Baran Bo Odar, the brain behind the brilliant script, is also the editor and director of Dark. He simply aced the screenplay. Nevertheless, the psychic illusions and background scores in the intro don't provide viewers with the odds to skip it.
The seasons 1 & 2 don't reveal much about the real plot of the series. The director did a tremendous job of carefully advancing the script and managing the events and timelines through his extreme ingenuity. Beginning from travelling through years via caves in season 1 to surfing across three different worlds in season three, it has set a record in the field of time - travel fictions.
The only unsatisfactory detail of the show was Claudia discovering the facts of cycles and mysteriously making her way to Adam from an anonymous cycle. With a whole lot of things happening in the end, Claudia was successful in creating a world in which Regina doesn't die.
Lastly, talking about the Finale; which shows the genius, Claudia, revealing the history and formation of both worlds from an origin world to Adam. Adam then, for the first time in infinite cycles tries to change the usual and also succeeds in doing so. The conclusion of the greatest time - travel work of all time, seemed a bit absurd and unscientific to me. The creator didn't intend to fill the logical gaps, rather chose to leave Claudia's mystery undisclosed.
However, the finale had much more to offer than just providing a scientific closure. Yes, I'm speaking of the magical bond between Jonas and Martha. Am I the only person with this constant deja-vu (Glitch in the Matrix) feel, every time they meet each other? But I'm sure this time that there is no soul without goosebumps when they deliver their last lines, " You and I are perfect for each other. Never believe anything else."
Finally, I would say that Eva failed in her mission to preserve the cycle forever. But, Adam was successful in his task to break the loop which connected the beginning and the end. With the mix of the perfect screenplay, story-line, and writings, Dark stands out as an outstanding and most gratifying show in the history of time travel.
Adios Amigos.
