that’s exactly what I’m curious to learn more about! if you don’t mind sharing of course! what is Macaque and Wukong up to in this theoretical bad end? how is Wukong handling being stuck with a circlet all over again? and from Macaque of all people? what is Macaque’s goal in regards to keeping Wukong all to himself? does he regret putting the circlet on Wukong? and after all this, does Wukong even still have feelings for Macaque?

Macaque's goal in all of this is to forcibly return to how things used to be. He wants the Sun Wukong that he used to know to come back so it can finally be just the two of them, happy and together forever on Flower Fruit Mountain like it always should have been.. This, of course, was never going to work. Sun Wukong has changed. He's changed. The world has changed.

He knows better, too. He has that precognitive hearing ability and when he listens into the future he doesn't hear them being together happily... but he tries anyway. Thinking, well, maybe if he just tries something different then it will all work out... In this way, he's just as deluded as Demon King Red. The difference between these two villains, though, is that after awhile, Macaque will start to catch on and realize that he is never going to get what he wants out of this. Sun Wukong just spends his time trapped on the island with him miserable, sulking, avoiding him whenever possible, and oftentimes just crying his eyes out.

Something's gotta give eventually. There are a few things that could happen here.

One is Macaque decides this is making him miserable too and just lets Sun Wukong go, then slinks away into the shadows, fully giving up on them ever being together. In this version, Wukong goes immediately to MK (and now his two children) from the tower Demon King Red locked them all up in and rescues them.

Another thing that could happen is MK escapes all on his own and comes to find Wukong, hoping to free him. This, of course, doesn't go as he hoped because while Wukong is definitely capable of defeating King Red, MK isn't so capable of defeating Macaque. That's fine, though. Macaque sees how happy Wukong is to see MK, the first time he's seen him smile in probably years now, and decides that this is a good chance to set things right... so he decides that, instead of returning MK to his former ally Demon King Red, he'll just keep the kid to make Wukong happy.

hi hello i DESPERATELY want to know more about the toxic shadowpeach situation where Macaque got a new circlet on Wukong, PLEASE give us more details on what's going on there, i love the angst

You must be referring to this old art piece, which in turn is based off of this prompt.

This scenario is an extension of my Demon King Red AU. In that AU, Red Son has gone mad, become obsessed with MK, and is trying to kidnap and marry him. Obviously Sun Wukong is a hindrance to his plan, and so King Red teams up with Macaque who similarly wants to kidnap the Monkey King to have him all to himself. The circlet is not the original heavenly circlet, but a piece of magic technology that King Red created for Macaque.

The version of the AU where Macaque manages to get the circlet on Sun Wukong is the “bad ending” where Demon King Red and Macaque succeed in their plans. Wukong is captured with the circlet and Macaque pretty much has him at his mercy.

The tag for this bad ending is Prince MK. Most of it focuses on what a bad time MK is having being locked in a tower to play husband to King Red, but there is also some posts deep in there about Wukong and what Macaque gets up to with him.

Actually, something I’ve been wanting to write for awhile now is some more Prisoner MK centric stuff.. I’m in the middle of a chapter of A Test of Time that’s MK’s perspective, and it makes me want to go back and do some MK perspective from when he’s actually dealing with the kidnapping and stuff.

The bit I’m most interested in writing is right after MK gets kidnapped for the first time.. Red Son has turned on him and handed him over to his parents. The staff is gone. He’s chained up in a dungeon. And he’s completely, and utterly devastated.. not even so much because of his circumstances right now or even that he lost to DBK. He can’t believe that Red Son betrayed him. It occurs to him for the first time in that dank, miserable place that maybe their whole relationship was a lie and Red Son never actually loved him.

Of course, while he’s stewing in this misery, Red Son shows up to check on him. He quickly dismisses the Bull Clones guarding MK and then rushes into the dungeon cell, seemingly frantic. He asks if MK is hurt, checking him all over, his hands grasping but gentle as he looks genuinely concerned.. this throws MK for a loop because he kind of expected Red Son to just start gloating about how stupid he was to have fallen for the trap the DBK fam laid out for him. But no. Red Son actually wants to know if he’s ok. So, he says he is. Physically. He’s only hurt that Red Son helped his parents put him in this cell. To his credit, Red Son does actually look contrite at being scolded like this. And he even apologizes! (A first for him tbh) He says he’s so sorry it turned out this way. He couldn’t refuse his parents, but he couldn’t stand by and let MK be killed because he loves him.

Hearing those words again makes MK smile genuinely for the first time in this place. He leans forward and kisses Red Son on the nose and says he understands. His parents are really scary, but he doesn’t have to face them alone anymore. He has MK there with him. All Red Son has to do is get these chains off of MK and they can go confront his parents, get the staff back, and save the city! They fan still fix this, together!

This, unfortunately, is met by an awkward laugh by Red Son as he shakes his head, no. He can’t do that. No, no. He can’t turn on his parents. They’re his parents and he loves them! He just also loves MK. Obviously he’s not going to keep MK locked up like this, but his mother said he can’t let the Monkie Kid out until he can guarantee that he’ll behave… he came down here to try to get MK to promise NOT to try to save the city. This is the only way they can still be together. And, obviously, since they’re in love, Red knew that MK would agree.

This is the moment MK realizes what has actually happened. Red Son didn’t come down here to save him. He came down here to try to make him submit to his family’s authority… his first instinct had been correct. Red Son doesn’t actually love him.

He shoves the demon away, glaring at him fiercely and proclaims that he’ll never stop fighting. And if Red Son thinks he could get him to, like, turn evil or something then he’s got another thing coming! And he tries to take a swing at the demon. He doesn’t manage to use his full strength due to the chains still on him, but Red still does get a nasty bruise on his cheek from the hit and has to fall back to avoid MK actually getting at him.

Standing on the other side of the bars again, he looks nearly as sad as MK as he stares on, apparently speechless… finally, he turns away, muttering that he’ll figure something out. He’ll find a way to make sure this will work and MK will behave.. it’ll be fine. They can still be happy. He’ll be back soon.

MK is left alone in the cell, even more miserable than before as he realizes the circumstances he’s in. Red Son doesn’t love him… but he thinks he does. As sad as that is for him, it’s also just bolstering his determination to resist. He’s doesn’t know what the demon is going to try to do to get MK to “behave” but he knows one thing for sure: he’ll never stop fighting and he’ll never forgive Red Son for this.

Its been a minute since I've thought about A Test of Time or just Demon King Red AU in general.

Yes, I’d love to talk more about what happens over in the future timeline after DKR gets dealt with. After Time Travel Red Son goes back to the past, the gang would try very earnestly to get back to normal… obviously whatever this new normal is, it will not be what it was before. They’re all inextricably changed by the trauma they’ve gone through. MK is quieter. He’s less trusting- less naive than he used to be. And he’s less likely to hide things from his friends now.

That’s one good thing to come of this, at least. Since MK has had to rely on his friends so heavily for such a long time, he’s become sort of used to it. Instead of hiding his fears and insecurities, he gives voice to them. Not that he has much of a choice, to be honest. His friends are all waaaay more vigilant about when something is upsetting him and will get all up in his business if they think even something little is bothering him. It would be annoying if it weren’t so obviously necessary based on what they all just went though.

Anyway, not only is MK more open, so is the Monkey King. He’s basically dating Tang now in this timeline and so he can’t exactly go running off on a ‘vacation’ at the first whiff of Lady Bone Demon. Not that he wants to, anyway. He lost MK once before because he was negligent and the kid suffered for it for six months. The Monkey King will never turn his back on the kid like that again.. so yeah, there’s a waaay less likely chance that LBD will get her claws into anyone for long enough to actually build her spooky mech. The whole gang is gonna be on her at the first sign of trouble, especially if she goes around trying to scare MK like she did in canon.

Same for Azure, too. MK is less trusting now. A demon shows up who used to be the Monkey King’s brother and wants to help? Yeah. Well, DBK used to be the Monkey King’s brother, too. And look what him and his son ended up doing to MK.. No. MK doesn’t trust this guy as far as he can throw him. Under no circumstances does he hand the scroll over to Azure Lion.

As for the Pillar of Heaven…. Hmmm. Yeah I see that going about the same, though. Just because MK is more open with his friends doesn’t mean he’s not still willing to die for them. MK has changed a lot, but that’s still something immutable about his character, I think.

Oh and as for Macaque- honestly I could see him either going full blown villain and skipping out on his semi-redemption that happens in canon… or I could see him following the exact same path, deciding he likes the kid enough to change for the better and being brought into the fold eventually, turning this into a PigsyxTangxWukongxMacaque messy poly situation lol. Both versions are fun for different reasons.

i am a huge fan of your dkr au, since i adore one sided romances a lot!! i just wanted to ask, what would happen if red got his"just desserts" in a sense. for example, the way he is obsessed with mk, and the way he treats him. what if red got trapped in a mini pocket dimention run by a god, one who can bend reality, shape it and edit it to how he wants it to be, who is equally obsessed with him, if not a little more. and he's trapped there as a punishment. the whole "Punishment fitting the crime" saying? how would red react? i have so much info on these two, it is insane i think about writing materials way to much. for example, every time red is close to escaping, this god will just erase the exit, something he could do all along, but he loves seeing red struggle and thinks of it as a "cat and mouse" game of sorts.

but yeah! i just wanted to ask since i would adore to draw the concept (and if i post it i will ofc tag you, and if I write more info on my page, i'll tag you as well!) and write some of it, i just want to make sure i got red's reaction down to a key!! again, big fan!! i love what you do keep it up!

Thank you so much!! I have a lot of fun with my Demon King Red AU and making Red suffer is basically the cornerstone of it, so yeah the thing you’re describing here totally fits the motif of it 😂

As for his reaction, I feel like if DKR was trapped in a world where he was being tormented by a deity that wouldn’t let him escape, he would only draw further into the madness that has already consumed him. He is obsessed with MK, so his every waking thought is of his darling MK and how he can get back to him. He’s trying desperately to escape, not because he himself is miserable, but because oh no, his precious and wonderful MK must be so worried about him. He has to get back! He has to find MK! It’s not for himself, it’s for MK’s sake!

At first he would fight and kick and scream and try to resist as much as he could- after all, he won’t ever love anyone except for MK, and some interdimensional monster that is trying to win him over has absolutely no chance against someone as perfect as his Darling. When it’s more apparent that his violent resistance won’t get him anywhere, he starts to break down. The misery and the sadness start to win over the anger. He starts to beg. Please. Please let him go back! He has to get back to his darling MK. He must be so miserable without Red around!

Anyway, this is pretty fun and is a fitting punishment considering what he does to MK in the Prince MK bad ending haha

"Please smile, it's your wedding day" said Emperor Azure Lion.

"Please smile. It's your wedding day."

Qi Xiaotian shook his head, tears rolling down his cheeks. He hadn't said a word to Azure since the plan was revealed, and it stung more than Azure was comfortable with. Honestly, he regretted agreeing to give up the boy to Niu's brat, but an agreement was an agreement.

"Xiaotian," he said, cupping his face and ignoring the attempt to pull away. "I promise, he will be a faithful and loving husband." If he wasn't, Azure would make sure to fix it. He had the power to do that now for the boy that had taken up a son-shaped spot in his soul.

"I don't want this," the boy whispered, the plea clear. "Please don't do this. I don't want him."

"I'm sorry, I don't want you."

Azure's claws dug into the red wedding robes, arranging their arms to be linked as music began to be played. "You'll learn to," he said, his voice a bit harsher than he would have wanted. His free hand patted his shirt, where Wukong's tile was hung. "You'll both have to, eventually."

The curtains parted, revealing the altar and the beaming groom.
