(Zoro's POV)
Zoro's farthest memories could be traced to the cluster of tears falling over his toddler face as his mother wiped her tears before leaving him. He didn't cry, he didn't mumble - he didn't need to.
Why would he?
Emotions.were.useless.
That was his first thought of them.
Meaningless
Pointless
futile
He didn't even flinch as the thunder came down and frightened them to tears. His eyes narrowed as he turned his back on them and went back to sleep.
Yeah.
He didn't need them.
Time passed easier for him, no distractions, no love, no sadness. He was alone but he felt enough. He ate when he was hungry, trained as much was required and slept.
But nothing could stay the same forever.
Nothing.
He would remember that day like it was no other. The sun was shining so damn bright then it should have. He could already feel the sweat forming under his underarm.
“-Beat her up Zoro!-”
“-Zoro's looking tired again-”
“-He probably wants it be over, so he can leave-”
They were right about that. He needed it to be over and out.
Taking his sword out to fight another pointless battle that his so called ‘sensei’ had decided was a fun activity. With the sharpness directed towards his opponent he stepped forward.
His dull black eyes looked at ‘Her’. He yawned.
This was going to be easy.
He grunted as he fell back and left out a painful hiss. Blood clenching over his skin and dripping down over the soil, as he took in his strength to stand.
“ Kuina Wins.” He heard those words echo. Looking up, he saw his sensei smile - as if the heavens gave him a sense of pride, joy at Zoro's defeat.
Kuina walked past them and extended her hand. “ Get up-” She voiced, her eyes trailing down at him, scanning his skin from the top to bottom. He slapped her hand off and got up.
His eyes reflected right into hers.
“ I'll defeat you.” he remarked before walking away.
Kuina's lips spread into a smile as her eyes closed in acknowledgement. “ We'll see.”
Zoro's with his bloody hands clenched so hard that his bones would crack didn't stop till he reached his hiding spot.
His heart was beating, thumbing with excitement - He pressed his palm over his chest and took a deep breath. The moonlight sent him a reflection of his face.
-𝘵𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘱-𝘵𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘱- It was beating out of his chest. He was feeling. But he couldn't name them, it was his first time feeling after all. But the ocean told him enough.
He was smiling.
Kuina.His rival
Yeah that sounded better over his mind.
She became his only spark and feign of interest in that dojo. She was his life, his reason for existence,the one he wanted to defeat.
They even made the promise to be the world's greatest swordsman.
He remembers grinning, one with his eyes feral and his heart beating out of his chest like a hurricane over the ocean. Kuina had returned that smile with one of her own and extended her hand to pick him up.
“ Not going to hold my hand again, Zoro?” she giggled.
He held it without a second thought and got up.
“ Today to forever. ” he smirked back.
“ Till the day one of us becomes the world's greatest swordsman.” Their fingers intertwined as the sun cast over their shadows.
Their voice echoed over the hill and the farthest it could reach. He had found his spark, his goal.
Then she slipped and died.
He gripped tightly on his shorts, swallowing what felt like his blood over his tongue. Wallows of sadness were heard but he couldn't care.
Zoro couldn't care.
Because the one that made him feel was dead.
There was a knock on his door and his sensei came inside. His head bent down as he entered. “-Zoro, I'm coming inside-ZORO!-” He held that knife about to pierce Zoro's throat with his hand and threw it.
To where he couldn't reach.
Why ?
Tears spilled down as his teacher tried to calm him. He had to hand it to her, she made him feel even when she was six feet down. Sadness.
He hated her.
But
She was gone.
His sensei handed over a sword to him. “ It's-” He mumbled, “-Kuina’s. Take care of it.” Zoro unshaded it and took a glance. It still had the same shiny blade, dark yet he could see his eyes.
“ I'll be the greatest swordsman.”
“ What?”
Zoro took a step back and stood in front of the man. His black eyes with life dead and gone. “ I'll be the greatest Swordsman” ‘ For her. For our promise.’ was engraved on his heart.
His sensei returned it with a bow. And Zoro left - Left before the first Sun after her death came out and reminded him that she was gone.
He trailed back and forth in the ocean defeating all those swordsmen that came in his way. Even if they didn't, he hunted them, he had - for that promise, for them.
With time he had earned himself a reputation as a pirate hunter. He killed for food, if that gave him something like that then he just stood and let it happen. Why bother unless it does something to you right?
Turns out he could be bothered. Very badly too.
“Tsk-”, he let out - sitting at the further of the bar’s table. That wretched Marine just had to ruin his appetite.
And Zoro being who he was, hated loud people the most. So he smashed a table into that idiot Marine's face without a reasonable thought and got himself imprisoned.
The girl brought him food that the Marine ruined.
Zoro didn't care that a little girl's food was stomped on, he was hungry so he ate it without a second thought. As long as it gave him energy he could go on.
Then he appeared.
Monkey D. luffy
He felt his breath hitch at the sight of him. How could one be so perfect yet look so like a pirate?
His heart was beating so loud. Louder than it ever was with ‘her’. He wanted to grab it, hold the piece of light and emotion this man could provide him.
Luffy freed him, made him his first mate and called Zoro so affectionately.
Zoro couldn't ask for more.
Luffy asked with the Marine Captain's blood splashed over his dashing bright smile for Zoro to kill the rest. Zoro could never refuse. He stabbed through the throat of the Marine Captain’s frightened son and followed luffy back.
A pink-haired boy trembled over his shoulders. His eyes leaping and breath hasty and pained. Luffy walked over to him, looked right into his eyes that had lost all hopes and grinned. “-𝘓𝘶𝘧𝘧𝘺-𝘴𝘢𝘯…𝘞.. 𝘞𝘩𝘺?”
𝘓𝘶𝘧𝘧𝘺’𝘴 𝘦𝘺𝘦𝘴 𝘯𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘭𝘺,“ Good luck Koby!” ( completely ignoring his question)
Zoro watched it with an amused taunt. He yawned as luffy said his goodbyes and stepped on the boat after his captain, 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘥.
The crew got Larger.
Nami (she was a witch and a greedy one. Zoro could remember about ten instances where she scammed him for a thousand Berry more than what he owned. He was going to stab her if not for Luffy liking her. 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘤𝘩 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦𝘥 𝘩𝘪𝘮 𝘵𝘰𝘰)
Usopp ( Zoro liked him enough to not kill him. Usopp was a lier, one that Zoro knew not to trust. Trusting him meant losing your organs, your life and your soul. Zoro was smart enough. 𝘓𝘶𝘧𝘧𝘺 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦𝘥 𝘩𝘪𝘮 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘤𝘳𝘶𝘦𝘭𝘵𝘺)
Sanji ( Zoro and he fought as any rival would. They tried to kill each other so many times. Sanji poisoned anyone that wasn't either a lady or Luffy. Zoro had learned that developing a poison resistance was a good idea. Luffy was his angel as much as he was Zoro's.)

Chopper, Robin, Franky, Brook and even Jimbie all were the same level of crazy as them. They all loved Luffy and they all had a desire for blood. No one could come between them after that two year gap.

They were insane as the ocean of Paradise could ever be. 𝘡𝘰𝘳𝘰 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥𝘯'𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘩 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘦𝘭𝘴𝘦.
But life never went the way Zoro wished. Sometimes he wished he could strangle this so-called life if it ever appeared before him in physical form. It always gave him something he didn't want.
An intervention.
‘She’ came into their lives, purely by accident really - but Zoro wished he could get rid of her and out of his (Luffy's) sight.

They met you while exploring another jungle in another unknown island, trying to pass time, that log pose taking a few more hours to be filled and useful again than it should have.
Like Chopper's island, snow had covered every inch of this land. They saw you frozen and freezing. Sanji and Chopper tended to you and practically saved your life.
Zoro didn't mind, they liked doing these pity acts of kindness when they felt good. Lucky for you, he thought.Today was one of those days.
Zoro and Nami watched with keen eyes as Luffy looked at you from far. His eyes didn't leave you for a second. Even when food was placed in front of his eyes, he didn't blink.
Usopp and Zoro exchanged glances.
Something was going on.
There was something different in those burning black eyes.
Zoro wished he knew what.
Then Luffy did the most Luffy thing ever and invited you to join their crew. “ Join my crew!” He twinkled.
All of them watched with shocked looks, Luffy used to enjoy playing this sort of game before killing the useless ones. Was he doing it again?
Robin was the only one that looked particularly calm, scratch that even Brook looked calm. He took another sip of his tea as the shock wore off them. “L-Luff-” Usopp yelled.
“-What the hell are you thinking!-” Nami shouted, pushing Usopp's face to the side. Luffy turned his head and tilted it slightly in confusion. “ What's wrong Nami?” He asked like an oblivious child.
Nami froze as she met his eyes, her lips trembled ‘L-Luffy’ his sharp gaze silenced her mutter. He turned his face away from her and directed his attention to you.
You sat on the bed - your spider legs extended into a spread while your hair fluttered over your abdomen. Luffy could see the daze in your eyes, your pupils dilated and cheeks flushed.
“ Luffy-san.” All of their chatter stopped and nine pairs of eyes turned to you. (Eight since Brook didn't have eyes yohyohyoh-)
You gulped, your fingers interlocked with his arm. You could feel their eyes fire into the depth of your elf skin. “ What is it, Y/n?” He asked with a smile so bright you felt he would hand over the stars if you so asked.
Your legs twitched at his sunshine-like voice. With a hesitant hand, you built the courage to speak - the burn and scars covered in bandages felt as if they were on fire. “ I…can't 𝘴-𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘺𝘰𝘶 all-”
Luffy's grip tightened over your wrist and.You kicked and tried to wiggle out. “-I have to return home-” Tears flowed under your mystical glittering eyes.
Luffy patted you on the head. “ I'll take you home, I promise.” His voice was deep and straight , you felt as if you could trust him blind. Your head hit his chest and you fell over him.
You were so larger, you worried you squished him. But here he was laughing. You couldn't help laughing too. ( Others were planning your murder and you didn't know)

“ I can't go on that island.” Your voice came out more terrified and hesistant that ever before. Chopper reflected jimbie's concern before running over to you in comfort. “ It's alright Y/n! We can go. You can guard the ship if you like.”
You nodded, relief overcoming you. “ I'd like that Chopper-kun.” You wouldn't have to go there. Back to them.
“ But why don't you want to go Y/n?” Zoro commented causing you to flinch. “I-” You muffled.
“ She doesn't have to go if she doesn't want to, Moss Head!” Sanji interepted.
“ I'm not talking to you chef so out of the way.” He said straightening.
“ Well I am.” Sanji added.
Zoro and he were ready to fight when Luffy's voice came from across the side. Excitement gone and replaced with something far sinister and unholy. All of them stepped aside for luffy - stepped away to make a path to you.
All of the strawhats knew from Luffy's feral eyes that someone was going to die. They couldn't wait for the blood to shed.
You visible pulled back when he tried to touch your cheeks. Your spirder legs causing you to recoil farther than haught. Luffy was gentle and firm when he made you look at him.
“ Tell me Y/n. Is this the place?” Your jaw tightened into a tight clench as you nodded, trying to turn you head away to not meet his eyes.
“ It..is..”
Silence that followed was unnerving. As terrifying as the bloodlust that overtook the Thousand sunny. You didn't notice all their eyes turning dark and their hearts running with desire to kill - to torture.
Luffy placed his hat over your head and walked away. “ Stay inside and close your ears.”
“ Luffy-”
“ Go inside.”
“...yes..”
The door to the lobby shut as you made way to your chamber.
All the strawhats met their captain's eyes as their voices came out in a growl. “ What do we do with them luffy?”
“ Cause them pain till what was given to my Y/n memorizes into their brain and they can't think of death better than life anymore. Make them wish to be dead.”
“ Roger.”
No one would ever cause you pain.
