Fanmade Yo-kai Dark Watcher by @amf-studios
Tonight, here's some Merican cryptid yokai!
First up, a simple one, Dark Watcher!
Dark Watcher is a pretty direct play on the California Dark Watcher:
Tall, dark and creepy shadow people that have been seen in the twilight hours in Santa Lucia mountains since the 1700s. They're said to gaze at hikers from their inhuman height of ten feet tall. Their forms are always obscured in shadow, and any attempts to get a better look at them will result in the ghostly figures disappearing.
Unlike most american cryptids, the Dark Watcher are noted to be harmless, if not incredibly creepy.
Dark Watcher is a D rank, Mexican yokai of the shady tribe. He is of the drain attribute, and has the soultimate "I'm watching you" which inspirits his opponents.
And next is one I've had for a while, this is LeMoth!
The Moth man need not an introduction! This is the famous cryptid we all love!
I mostly took inspiration from the poodle moth, as its my favorite species. Ones I had that, I leaned into the "poodle" aspect and based his looks off French fashion!
LeMoth is attracted to anything bright and eye catching! This has actually got him into quite a few pickles as he is visible to everyone. Thankfully he's wings have a special dust that can cause confusion to take hold in those who inhale it, combine with seeing the patterns on his wings.
LeMoth is a C rank Merican Yokai of the mysterious tribe. He is a wind attribute with the soultimate, "Moth Manic!" Where he uses the dust from his wings to confuse his opponents!
I hope you enjoy these cryptid inspired fan-kai!
My piece for @paranormalcyzine !

~OBSERVE~
The Darkwatcher encourages you to suspend judgment or come to conclusions, and simply witness. To watch how things unfold as if overlooking the cliffs out onto the sea. The observer intuitively knows when to be present, and when to move; understanding that there is a time for action, and a time to just observe in silence. Sometimes we want to fix something right away when all we are invited to do is hold space and listen. You might find that by taking this silent approach, things may resolve themselves. Taking a direct course of action can result in heated circumstances, but you don’t need to cause disruption if you just let things be. An unconscious mind and neutral flow can open up unseen paths through the situation that you might not have been open to comprehend before. If you visit the California coastline in the late afternoon and you’re lucky, you may see a figure silhouetted against the skyline above the cliff…a Darkwatcher. Some say they are over ten feet tall, looming with a hat and cape. The figure is most often seen by joggers and hikers at dawn or in the twilight hours. Witnesses report that just before seeing a Darkwatcher, they feel like they are being watched. The cryptid moves quickly, and can disappear just as fast as it appeared, so nobody has ever seen one up close. Many people have claimed that they noticed a figure watching them from the Cliffs; never showing aggression, solely watching.
Are Cryptids Lurking in the Forests of Big Sur?
What places do you think of when you think of cryptids? Loch Ness is likely at the top of most people’s lists. The woods of the Pacific Northwest abound with sasquatches in some stories; there’s also the presence of the yeti in the Himalayas, according to many accounts.
A recent SFGATE article by Katie Dowd suggests that there’s another cryptid hotspot waiting to happen, and it happens to be in one of the most scenic parts of the United States. That would be Big Sur, a place beloved by surfers and Jack Kerouac devotees alike. According to Dowd’s article, the woods in Big Sur are home to the Dark Watchers — towering creatures that have called the forests home for centuries.
