liam stewart ( the darkest minds ) x fem-aligned reader. no use of y/n, liam calls the reader darlin’. mentions of blood due to scrapes.
liam stewart always had your back. this, you knew, with full certainty. he’d put you before himself every time, and maybe that’s what killed you just slightly inside.
there was always a trail of recklessness that followed him around. he got himself into trouble without even trying, but perhaps that’s what made him so endearing. he always managed to laugh it off.
so when you were attacked for what felt like the umpteenth time, he had assumed everyone would be okay and would remain uninjured. that was not the case with you.
during an altercation, you’d been slammed to the ground just harshly enough to scrape your knees, causing them to bleed. you had all managed to escaped, and so you figured bringing it up when everyone was on a high felt too awkward.
you remained silent, feeling the sting of your fabric brushing against the scrapes. liam glanced at you from the rearview mirror, brows furrowing in confusion. a silent question. are you okay?
you nodded your head yes, although you nearly felt anything but, despite having dealt with much worse in the past. he shook his head back at you, calling your bluff without any words being spoken.
“let’s pull over,” he finally spoke up. “i think we’re far enough.” he didn’t wait for any protest.
“what’s wrong?” chubs glanced up.
“nothing.” you replied before liam could.
“liar.” however, there was no malice in his tone.
“i’m fine, lee-” you started, waving him off, but he was already unbuckling his seatbelt and leaning over the console to look at you closer.
zu silently scooted away, giving the blue more room. “you gonna tell me what happened?” he raised a brow at you.
“no.” you grumbled, not meeting his eye.
“darlin’, you seriously didn’t think i wouldn’t notice.” it wasn’t a question. he always noticed when it came to you.
“i was hoping to prolong your noticing.”
“haha, funny.” he said sarcastically. “now show me what happened.”
you sighed, begrudgingly lifting your pants to reveal the scrapes.
“mm.” he hummed in consideration. “you should rest for awhile. try not to walk too much, ‘kay? they’ll scab over eventually, but i’m sure it hurts like hell right now to walk.” he ruffled your hair playfully, pulling his hand back before you could swat it away.
“yeah, i know. it doesn’t need treating or anything.” you mutter.
“and if it did?” he mused.
“then you still would’ve found out eventually.”
“you’re right,” his lips quirked upward, and he leaned closer. he let his lips graze your forehead in a gentle kiss.
“get a fucking room,” chubs snapped from the front seat, while zu’s body shook with silent laughter.
