Does Ezreal have any thoughts regarding him being an only child?

An audible gulp resounded through the empty hallway as Ezreal stared into the pale eyes of the Archdemon, his breath stalling in his half-emptied lungs as his heart raced behind his ribs.
"Variya..." her name left his lips in a defeated whisper, his teeth gritting in frustration before the rest of the words forced themselves out like a stream weakened by a blocking boulder. "...we can't. For obvious reasons. And you know we can't. There's just...too much at stake that I'm not willing to give up for something like that."

The unfamiliar form resting between his legs caused the explorer to wake up with a jolt, and he quickly reached forward to grasp the soft strands of the Archdemon’s brunette hair in the spaces of his fingers, his bright eyes widened considerably.
"Uh…Variya." he mumbled her name, unsure of whether to be aroused or completely horrified. "This is…sudden. Did you mistake me for someone else?”
Oh, so he was already a major...wasn't he still a major during Ionia?

Going to make this public for future reference for other people for Darius’ progression as an officer.
When he beheaded his captain, he served as de facto captain for his company until his promotion was confirmed by General Montolieu after that turning point- so we can say he makes captain at 0 BLE (few months before the establishment of the League).
Basically all he was doing was purchasing commissions so he could get to the rank he wanted (which was Colonel).
The sale of commissions was considered the norm in Boram Darkwill’s days, and most lower ranks required two years of service in that rank before you could purchase a promotion to the next (this requirement was shortened to one year, if your service was exceptional or if officers were dying unusually fast).
However, if the provost marshals hated your guts or if someone above you wanted to see you suffer (which was often the case), then you could spend more than 5 years stagnating in a rank before you could get a boost up.
In-house politicking and people dying left and right pushed Darius up the ranks until he grew to hate being promoted- because then he would be getting more problems given how many people he has to watch over.
To wit, as a lieutenant he only had to look over a troop (26-55 men) compared to the number of men he had to watch over as a lieutenant-general (40,000-80,000).
The higher he ranked up, the farther he was pushed away from the battlefield- which he also did not like. Getting a higher rank basically brought more politics and complications into his life but it's not as if he could say no.
Given how Noxus’ social strata is arranged, with the military effectively being part of daily life, it was hardly surprising in those days to have someone work really hard in the trenches until they got to a nice cushy position as a Brigadier-General or so before retiring from active duty and instead using that rank as a way to influence in-house politics and domestic affairs.
Ionia was a very long war, and a lot of people were dying so the junior officer ranks were constantly accepting new blood (Major and below) whereas the senior ranks (Colonel and above) were starting to form a bottleneck because the senior officers weren’t on the field as much.
In 10 CLE he was deployed in Ionia as a Brigadier-General- which effectively pinned him next to Lieutenant-General Halloway in the ranks because he served as the man’s executive officer.
So when Karma incinerated General Montagu in 12 CLE, a whole section of people had to be moved up when Lieutenant-General Halloway replaced him as General (which brought Darius his promotion to Lieutenant-General in Halloway’s place).
After butchering Ionians and basically unleashing his pent-up rage at everyone and everything in those isles, he was chosen by Boram Darkwill to become a General and was elevated to nobility with a House name to reflect his quote unquote noble actions following General Westley’s execution due to incompetence.

30 September, 2 BLE – Darius is officially conscripted with the rank of Lieutenant. He is assigned to the ‘Black Watch’– 9th Battalion, 4th Brigade attached to the 51st Standard– commanding the 3rd Troop of Behemoth Company.
1 July, 0 BLE – The Fifth Rune War ends with a decisive Noxian victory at the valley of Montgisard. Then–lieutenant Darius beheads Captain Gerard de Roquefort.
30 January, 6 CLE – Noxus completes their withdrawal. Darius is promoted to Major.
10 April, 6 CLE – Darius is sent to the Freljord, replacing Major Kendrick Holmwood as Camp Commander for Camp Hammerstroke.
28 October, 9 CLE – A healer finally repairs Darius’ mangled arm. Darius purchases a promotion to Colonel.
15 June, 10 CLE – Darius (30) is promoted to the rank of Brigadier–General and assigned to be Lieutenant–General Halloway’s executive officer in the 12th Standard.
3 January, 12 CLE – Darius and Riven are redeployed to Ionia for their third tour of duty. Darius is promoted to the rank of Lieutenant–General. By chance, he is given command of the 42nd Standard.
16 October, 17 CLE – Darius is promoted to General in accordance with his scorched earth policy in the latter part of the war.

[[ Ezreal always appreciates someone who can humor him, though this isn't necessarily in a sexual way. He actually doesn't respond very well to flirting though, seeing as though he's been tackled by rabid fan summoners on various occasions. If he's going to become interested in someone, usually he'll make the first move because then you know he's actually serious. ]]

I ship Ezreal with adventure. :D It is and always will be his one true love. But seriously, I can't think of shipping him with anyone else in the League.
[[ Yeah, I always say that Ezreal's true love is Valoran itself. It sounds kind of depressing in a way, but really, nothing else will thrill him and keep him coming back for more like a good adventure will.
In all seriousness, though, all of my "ships" just sort of happen after a connection is established and actual friendships are formed. I like to be as realistic as possible when it comes to interaction. ]]
